Oh, I agree 150%, Phillip - I have been following this young man’s artistry for several years now, and am so pleased and happy at the development of his career. “Passion and poetry” are truly the hallmarks of his playing. He is terrific interpreter of this master’s compositions, but have you heard his recitals on YT? He reduced me to tears on Scarlatti! Who DOES that?? Thank you for your post, sir - this guy is the one to watch, imhop ❤️

This is without a doubt my favourite performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3. Whenever I am asked which pianist I hear play this piece, I always say Dmitry Shishkin. Incredible!

Good Rachmaninov. But……. Once again, rather than film the complete pianist’s development of the massive finish, the wild left hand octaves, contrasting with the right hand movements , the videographers cut to view tympani. I never will understand what the fascination with the tympani is about, during a soloist’s development of the finale of one of the most difficult, but also one of the most monumental piano concertos. I’ve heard one professional pianist state that the Rach 3 is a concerto many pianists are just happy to survive. Watching the pianist, at the end of the challenge, working through that last, exciting difficult finish is so interesting to piano students, or just music lovers. But in so many videos, the view cuts to the tympani mallets, or hammers, or whatever the instruments are called. Yikes. A pet peeve of mine. Thankfully, there are videos of Artists like Horowitz, or Yuja, etc, in which the whole development of the pianist working through the finale is caught for viewers to appreciate.

Рахманинов ведь это совсем о другом, там многое пережить нужно и обдумать каждую ноту, а тут никаких мыслей не чувствуется. Просто ещё.не достает жизненного опыта. Все ещё у него впереди. В любом случае спасибо большое за исполнение.

Я рад, что хоть кто-то высказал не одномерное "браво" и не блистательное "одобрямс"!.. "Основываясь на мимолетных чувствах, как будто Шопена" - немножко покоробило за Шопена, хотя мысль понятна. (У Шопена какие ноктюрны глубокие, да и этюды тоже есть, и т.п...) - По сути, Вы хотели сказать, что он играет здесь как бы не погружаясь в звук, а скользя по нотам. Я бы сказал, он играет Рахманинова как некую "красивую музыку" - т.е. салонно в Вашем определении. Да, проживания и "обдумывания" на его основе действительно не хватает. Это есть, но не все ему удается. Я сегодня был на концерте Дмитрия в Зарядье, где блистательный получился Метнер и довольно таки удачно, на мой взгляд, 2-я соната Прокофьева; а 7-я соната - уже не то, получилась формалистично и как-то громко, сухо... Это сложная музыка: не всякая птица долетит до середины сонаты Прокофьева... Она требует огромной самоотдачи и, возможно, какого-то сверхчеловеческого пропускания через себя... Это не для всех, и к этому действительно надо прийти. Следует ли из этого, что душа уходит из пианистического искусства? - Нет, не следует. Просто она, вероятно, пока держится на определенной дистанции...
