I was a student of class 5 then . We watched the Nehru Cup matches live on DoorDarshan with my elder brothers and their friends . I still recall Wasim Akrams first ball 6 of Viv Richards in the final at Eden Gardens that clinched the title for Pakistan against WI.

This tournament was organised by Rajiv Gandhi for his grandfather's birth centenary. Two things therefore stand out:- Mahatma Gandhi was born in 1869. In 1969, ODI cricket was not popular. secondly, unlike Nehru, Gandhi did nothing to obtain power for his family. Even Gopalkrishna Gandhi is relatively unknown compared to Nehru kin.
