Fun fact: Those enemies aren't bugging out and losing textures. That's how a creature looks when it's killed with necrotic damage! A bunch of damage types have unique death animations and make the body look different after death. For example, if you make the killing blow with radiant damage, the creature will die screaming and burning in holy fire, and the body will look charred.

Absolutely, correlating fun fact: if you intend to speak with the dead, do not finish them with fire/holy fire, lightning, acid, necrotic and other magical effects that would particularly damage a body. (Also don't behead them... or just talk to them _before_ .)

Fun fact but Astarion sleeps like that because he's an elf and they don't really sleep they just go into a kind of trance. I only started realizing this when i played as an elf myself, but it really does look so hilarious.

Your Speak with Animals spell is a ritual, which means it doesn't consume a spell slot. You can cast that on yourself each day after a long rest, and you'll have it all day until the next long rest. Yay! And *always* keep it active. The animals have so much to say!

Important standard tactic: before clicking "end turn", click on the character's melee weapon so they have that in hand in case something attacks them or runs past for an opportunity attack.

I say this without hyperbole, out of all the BG3 streams I've watched, yours is the best so far. I'm really bowled over and so pleased to have found someone who plays in exactly the way I want to watch, so thank you! I love this game but I'm so picky when it comes to people I enjoy watching. I love that you want to roleplay, that when you don't know something you look for the answer in the game, I even find your edits charming and funny and I never like YT edits. Oh, and I almost fell out of my chair when you pointed out the INT stat on High Elf cantrips - I've never seen anyone notice this, they just get mad that they never hit anything. I'm rambling now, so my last thing is to suggest that your preface your play session by declaring your stance on spoilers and backseating; through no malice, people let a lot slip and that's a damn shame. Looking forward to the next one, you're doing wonderfully! (and 2.5...) Sorry, one actual last thing, be careful searching for info online - especially on Reddit - I've been spoiled several times when Googling the most innocent of questions.

Fun watching you play! Just remember, Astarion can use sneak attack when one of your allies is next to a target even if you aren't hidden. So at 29:08 you used a normal attack and it could have been a sneak attack.
@Sangheillioz
@Sangheillioz 7 ай бұрын
Just to add to this, if you go to Astarion's Character Sheet (the inventory screen for him) and tab over to the Reactions screen, you should be able to toggle on "ask" for sneak attacks. This makes it so you never have to manually choose to sneak attack, and instead it will prompt you to apply it when you get a hit with an attack eligible to apply it. This also saves you from using the sneak attack on an attack that ends up missing! I recommend setting every reaction to "ask" for all of your characters to give yourself maximum control over things like opportunity attacks, reckless attacks for barbarians, sneak attacks for rogues, etc.

Yeah, you definitely don't need to edit too much. For example, looting and trading and all the talking with the characters we would like to see how you experience those things. Something like inventory management maybe you can edit out, but for the most part we don't have an issue with extra stuff. I would've loved to see you spend an hour in the character creator even. Side note, you should definitely do inventory management at some point as you get further in the game. There's going to be so much stuff and managing all of the things between half a dozen different characters is going to be a pain if it's all cluttered about. What I did was just pick up bunch of backpacks and put like different items in each of them like potions, keys, food, wearables, weapons, scrolls etc. This way if you need to change something or use something, you just need to open that backpack and you will find it.

Also, when you mentioned that you insist on your brother/DM providing you with menus when you're playing D&D, I had to laugh. As a DM, I have always liked using/preparing game props. Love the playthrough so far! And I agree, less editing is good. When folks watch someone play through a game like this, we really get into as though we are there with you. If you do a jump-cut, it's a bit jarring for those of us watching. If you do need to cut some tedious stuff out, maybe let us know first, then do it, then let us know you are back. It smooths things out. :) As far as your inventory, quick hint: Don't carry all your food around with you. Just keep it in your camp chest in a bag. You only eat it when doing a long rest, and that only happens in camp. The long rest mechanism will take food out of your camp chest no problem, so no need to carry it around. Saves weight!

Great episode! So many interesting stories to be found! Also, while it is likely too late for Volo by the time you read this, when talking to an NPC on the bottom left of your screen there are little circular icons, sometimes there will be one in the middle (of the 5) that is an open palm with some circles (coins) above it. If you click on that icon it will open up a trade window with that NPC.

If you are still playing, you might have figured this out, but Larian really took the style of "figure it out as you go along" on this game XD. So I thought it worth mentioning! When you got the "Detect Thoughts" prompt with the Tiefling in the grove, it was actually because you'd already used "Detect Thoughts" with Gale earlier. (Either that or you hadn't used your worm abilities just yet). It won't show you options in dialogue that require potions unless you've already taken the potion ahead of the conversation. And each day you get one free use of your worm to do.... some effect. I won't spoil the others in case you aren't there, but the freeing Shadowheart from the pod was one, then mind reading Gale to find out his past was another. And if you use the "detect thoughts" effect, it works like the spell would and lasts until you long rest again. It took me halfway through my first playthrough to realize certain effects and potions last until a long rest XD. I'm so used to D&D where things have a set (shorter) duration, and I"m really glad they put everything on rest timers instead.

Really looking forward to following your playthrough, I hope you're having as much fun playing as I am watching your videos! Loving this playthrough so far, especially how you are really engaging with all the mechanics and roleplay aspect. A couple of tips for pickpocketing if you're interested: - In order to increase chance of successful sleight of hand check, you can have Shadowheart cast guidance on Astarion (or whoever is pickpocketing), it works for 10 turns which is equivalent to 1 minute in real time mode. Cat's grace spell, once you get it, also helps by giving advantage on Sleight of hand checks. - If you want to steal from NPC that is surrounded by other NPCs, you need to create pocket of darkness. Easiest way to do that early game is shooting smoke arrow at the floor near NPC. - Alternative way to distract NPCs so they turn away from where you want to steal is to play a tune (easily done as you play a bard) or by summoning an illusion with a different party member than the one stealing. - After you successfully steal something from NPC, they will start to question you after few seconds. It's best if you leave the scene right away (you can use fast travel function), but alternatively you can also send stolen loot to camp so it won't be found on you when you're questioned.

Happy to see the 2nd Part. Regarding hier Astarion sleeps - this is because he is an elf and elves don't really sleep. It's more like meditation. Well done on the fight in front of the grove. It is not easy to keep everyone alive. If you had a fighter like Laezel in your party, you would have gotten inspiration for that. That's how I noticed on my first playthrough that no-one had died. On my second try however. First time, I died. 😂

Oh yeah... who you talk to first and in what order also affects the dialogue in camp. As for Astarion's sleeping position, elves don't sleep, usually (they can, but mostly chose not to). They enter in a restful trance for 4 hrs compared to human sleep (not that they can't sleep, they just prefer the advantages of the former). Nice to see another DND player try Baldur's Gate~ There are plenty of similarities and differences between their systems.

I'm currently using dice from a DnD podcast called The Adventure Zone - a pretty black set. Also, I've started an old west campaign with my group. I'll be listening to your videos as I make my new character journal.

@45:04 Bartering is definitely the way to go. Notice that the merchant has an attitude meter with you. When bartering, you can take less value back then you give to them. When you do this, their attitude towards you improves. The higher the attituded they have with you, the better the prices they give you (lower cost for items purchased, higher prices for items you sell them). Giving away the cheap junk goods for free is a good way to raise their attitude with you. Note though that not all merchants are worth the effort.

I've watched KZbinrs play BG3 without much editing, one of the longest vids I've watched was 5hr straight, loved every minute. And I can't wait to see more of your reactions ❤

Hello again! I was excited to see my comment from last video as one of the ones showcased in the beginning of the episode~ Going to make comments here as I watch. So, fun fact with the long rest that starts this video, character dialogue changes depending on what order you talk to people. Astarion and Shadowheart in particular are huge gossips and know who you talk to, and have different things to say depending on if you talked to Lae'zel, for example, before them instead of Gale. About Astarion talking to Mol, that's a quirk of the game where sometimes it picks a companion to be the leader of situations instead of the player character. It's weird and annoying when it does this, but I usually try to keep my responses in dialogue true to the character picked. In my first playthrough, I had some issues talking to Mol too - got caught in a glitch loop and couldn't leave.

Astarion is a full elf, not a half-elf like Shadowheart. That thing he was doing was meditating instead of sleeping, which elves can do.

Corpses turn white if they've been killed by a necromancy spell. There are unique effects for corpses that die to a number of effects; for example corpses get charred when they die to fire

Glad youre liking Baldurs Gate 3, Im on my second playthrough and even though the base story remains the same, making different decisions and even merely picking a different race and class, can cause significant changes to the overall experience. not to mention the combat is so versatile, it allows for a ton of experimentation on how you tackle an encounter. there is even a button in your skills, that allows you to not kill your enemies, which is important for one which, if you dont kill that enemy, you can end up meeting that enemy later in the game and allow that enemy to join your party. or in cases where some merchant finds you stealing and you enter combat, you toggle non lethal so you wont kill them and youll see them up and about after you come back from a long break.

It stresses me out how little you save 😅 But loving your playthrough! You are very fun to watch. A tip for pickpocketing stealing and using minor illusion. Going in to turn based mood makes it much easier in my opinion. Also putting out the lights! For some reason no one gets suspicious about you running around turn out all the lights 😄 And you absolutely need to get your hand on the darkness spell! So good for doing mischief 💜

Yes a few people have mentioned I need to save more frequently, I'll get on that just for you guys 😅 Oh great tip! I hadn't thought about going into turn based mode. I'm planning on some thievery in part 3 so your tips will be very helpful. Nothing suspicious about turning lights out, nothing at all...muhahaha I'll try and hunt down a darkness spell for Gale!

In case you're interested, some BG3: quality of life game-play suggestions (in no particular order). 1. Turn off Karmic Dice. 2. There are some brightness/contrast-type video settings which are worth examining, in-game ("Gamma" in “Options” menu?). 3. Organization suggestions: You can reduce your party’s inventory of loot items by using “send to camp” on any of them. This puts them in the Camp Travelers Chest (which you can, at leisure, further organize using spare backpacks/pouches). Said backpacks/pouches can also be used to organize stuff carried by party members, and contents can generally be accessed during combat. So, for example, my Tav has a backpack containing all the party’s spell scrolls and special arrows, Shadowheart has one with potions, etc., all of which are available to any other party member during combat. 4. You can wash the blood off your party members by wading in any body of water, or dumping a bottle over them. (Remember, a clean party member is a happy party member). 5. To answer a question you posed in your first play-through, there is a early-game loot item which can be worn to increase your Tav’s intelligence to 17.

Great fun editing, great job! Hope to stick around for the whole journey, which, by the looks of it, would be typical 100+ hours 1st BG3 playthrough lol, subbed. BG3 technically is almost right after Descent into Avernus ended, so there is definitely suspicion bordering on racism towards tieflings, at least in the region towards the refugees from Elturel. I think you can google about Descent into Avernus without any spoilers. 18:31 There was an exclamation mark, but you decided not to talk to her right away, and Lae'zel “thought” that the conversation you decided to have with Gale is more important than whatever she had to say, so the exclamation mark went away. Order of doing things is part of the personalized experience you're getting, and there is no “canon” order 95% of the time. For instance, if you've talked to Shadoheart first she wouldn't even ask what you were discussing with Gale, because you haven't talked to Gale yet. Also, when they have something to say about the area you're in, or anything else, the might or might not have an exclamation mark (the mark is more of an indication that the conversation is more significant than your usual one). Like in here 37:41 every companion would have something to say about the encounter and the grove, but they have no exclamation marks, mainly because it is just flavor/contextual 1-2 lines of dialogue. 28:33 Sneak attack could be done with any advantage on the target, not necessarily from the hiding, so when an enemy is “threatened” in melee by an ally, you can sneak attack on them without hiding (any advantage, like from guiding bolt, for instance). Sneak Attack is technically a reaction that could be set in the reactions tab, but using it as an action is just as valid. 32:09 That's not loosing textures per se, that is the visual representation of the corpse damaged by necrotic damage by Arms of Hadar by Wyll (just like burned would look different as well, or electricity, or cold damage), just like the last time you used necrotic damage Inflict Wounds on Intellect devourer. You can't use speak with the dead on these corpses, too damaged to speak. I think at some time, with how you understand the system and combat, and itemization, you'll be switching to tactician, which is more or less just "normal" difficulty. But hey, I might be wrong :)
