One D&D does allow for a few pretty interesting thrown weapon builds, since the Hexblade's ability to attack with their casting stat is now part of Pact of the Blade, Pact of the Blade Warlocks can pick either Wisdom or Charisma as their casting stat, and if the Pact weapon has the thrown property it gets the returning property as well. So you go Pact of the Blade Warlock, potentially multiclassing into Ranger or Paladin depending on which casting stat you choose. For your Pact weapon, choose a Trident, and then get the Weapon Mastery for the Trident so it has Topple. So you stand back and throw your Trident at the enemy, using your Wisdom or Charisma, and if you hit them you force them to make a saving throw or get knocked prone. If they save, you throw the Trident again and try to force another save. If they fail the save, you close the gap, wield the Trident two-handed since it has the Versatile property, and attack at advantage with a larger damage die.

If you're gonna do that, you might as well do Battle Master 6, Artificer 2, then Battle Master the rest of the way, with Archery (Quick Toss lets you reload, you get the weapon back anyway, and Archery helps with Sharpshooter more than TWF). You'll unfortunately swap your tertiary with INT > WIS for the multiclass requirement, but that also opens up an ASI for Ritual Caster (Wizard), which opens up a ton of utility options like Find Familiar, Phantom Steed, Leomund's Tiny Hut, and Rary's Telepathic Bond.

Flavor it so that instead of just one needle, each 1 damage is it's own needle. After that just try your best to get the Archery and Thrown Weapon Fighting Fighting Styles through whichever means you wish.

If you want a different version, my current character is a Horizon Walker Ranger/ Soul Knife Rogue. If your DM allows homebrew, look up Throw Weapons Master Feat. Basically its like a mix of crossbow expert and throw weapon fight style. The one version Im using is with a bonus action you can throw two weapons with the offhand at two different targets. Horizon walker gets 2 things haste at lvl 9 and distant strike at level 11. the feat, distant strike and haste allows 6 attacks in one turn with movement, but instead of focus fire its more of a scattershot. Works for my party since they are more focus fire so I can chip others in advance :)

I did a build in 1E with UA. Starting as a high strength Fighter before switching to Thief. Throwing 3 darts per round with double specialization is very messy. With 18(95) strength and 17 Dex that is +5 to hit and each hit causing d3+8 damage. Like the video's build the character used a shield. Also in 1E ALL the damage from a sneak attack was multiplied up, so for this character the large Strength bonus gets multiplied. Having said all that Dart is badly done in 5E. At the very least it needs the Light property to allow one to be thrown as a Bonus Action. The OneDnD playtest allows two Light missile weapons to be used in the same turn like this, which is also an improvement.
@drfeelgoodinc. Жыл бұрын
I made a similar character but Strength-based with Artificer 2 Fighter 9. With his returning weapon and a shield, as well as plate, he had a 21 AC and was dishing out a minimum of 18 damage an attack (now that was with archery fighting style and thrown fighting style together, talk to your DM to see if they'll allow both together).

The only problem with this build is that it might not technically work RAW, which If it were me I would allow but some DMs may not. The issue is that Sharpshooter's "power attack" function specifies "Before you make an attack with a ranged weapon", and thrown weapons aren't *technically* ranged weapons, they're melee weapons with the Thrown property. Just like how attacks with Unarmed Strikes count as melee weapon attacks, but aren't melee weapons, you can make ranged weapon attacks with thrown weapons, but they aren't ranged weapons (Archery would also not work with thrown weapons RAW). It's confusing and personally I'd allow it at my table, but some DM's are pretty hard-set when it comes to rules as written.

Want to know what does work with throwable weapon? Lightning Arrow, yes you can esentially make Lightning Net
@thejesteramongfools Жыл бұрын
Actually Darts are ranged weapons with the thrown property so they 100% work by RAW perfectly fine with both shapshooter and the archery fighting style. But since most other (all but the net) are melee weapons with the thrown property they would not work with either the style or the feat you are correct there. So Dart yes, Dagger no. Better to go with dueling fighting style instead and use throwing axes if you want that route.
@Litchert Жыл бұрын
Fun build! I hope to try it soon :D The only change I would make would be to go with a Halfling race as opposed to Vuman. It slows the access to Sharpshooter down a bit, yes, but it gives us the Lucky class feature which synergizes well with the Lucky feat later on (and is just nice to have in general), and almost all of the subraces have good options for this build. I'd probably go with Lotusden for the free Spike Growth once a day, or Lightfoot for Naturally Stealthy. Ghostwise would also be good for the added benefit of telepathy to keep you silent while sneaking around. Can't really go wrong.

And in your down time, you can hustle people in the pub, or just play with your cousin Roman. In AD&D darts were occasionally popular, for certain classes, in spite of their low damage, because they had a high rate of fire. However, RAW, combat darts weren't like pub darts, but more like lawn darts (RIP, Jarts), so you couldn't wear crossed bandoleers stuffed with darts and be a killing mochine. I like this idea tho. As ever, it's not the weapon, it's the wielder.

This is actually a fun monk option with focused aim + sharpshooter + ki empowered strike shenanigans. Darts get a bump every martial arts die, too. Fighter 1, monk 6 gets you the FS plus the loop, then you can grab ranger for archery and gloom stalker, or rush fighter for battle master. Kensei is good to guarantee the BA attack, but shadow works well with the ninja flavour. Alternatively, you can use a shortbow and grab archery as your first FS for a DPR boost early on if you don't mind losing some flavour.
@crownlexicon5225 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, darts don't scale with the martial arts die. Monk weapons are "shortswords and any simple melee weapons that don't have the two handed or heavy property" Darts are ranged weapons, not melee. Dedicated Weapon from Tashas may circumvent that, however, depending on your interpretation

Absolutely - a battlemaster/kensei with sharpshooter, focused aim and ki fueled attack would be nasty The synergy is real once you hit fighter 1/kensei 6. Missed a sharpshooter attack? Use focused aim to hit and trigger ki fueled attack for a bonus action sharpshooter dart. Hit both of your attacks? Spend a ki point for deft strike, get bonus damage and again trigger ki fueled attack for bonus action dart. At higher levels, the battlemaster quick toss and precision attack add more value. I would go gloom stalker 3 and then battle master for the rest. @elliotbryant3459 Жыл бұрын
There are 2 types of Devil's sight. 1. Devil's devil's sight: Magical darkness doesn't impede the devil's darkvision. 2. PC's devil's sight: You can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 120 feet. [available as a warlock infusion, astral self monk and an inferior version for shadow sorcerer -who can't see through it if others cast it] 1. The kind devils have. If you were in an area of normal darkness when the Darkness spell was cast, then they can't see you. If it was dim light, bright light or a light source has entered the area when/since the spell was set up then it gets more complicated. It could be argued since you're technically still in darkness [for yourself], the spell is still affecting you [enabling umbral sight], not the devil here. Or it could be argued that that aspect of umbral sight doesn't affect you, but other's perception of you, in which case they would be able to see you. 2. Relying on darkvision is taken out of the picture since they're seeing you normally here, there's nothing for you to evade. Also should be noted, you would need outside access to the darkness spell since it's not on the ranger or gloom stalker list

Hello D&D Daily I hope your day is going well, I thoroughly enjoy this build you have presented. This build is very powerful and not to be messed with but RAW game mechanics does not give you six attack with what you have demonstrated. Rules as written you only gets extra attack when you have made the attack action, action surge and dread ambusher are bonuses to an attack that you have already made, hence you can make four attacks on your first turn with this build. This being said a lot of DM'S nowadays through out the core rules and build a world of their own where anything is possible, but in that world where the rules don't exist there is no optimizing against the DM.
@DnD_Daily Жыл бұрын
Actually RAW action surge let's you take an additional action on your turn, which can be made to use the attack action, and if you have the extra attack feature you can attack a second time when you take the attack action. Dread ambusher states that if you take the attack action on your first turn in combat, you may make an additional attack as a part of that action. Meaning your first attack action has 3 attacks (extra attack + dread ambusher) and your second attack action from action surge would also have 3 attacks.
@matthewlenard8346 Жыл бұрын
@@DnD_Daily You can only take the attack action once per round, action surge is a bonus to an attack you've already made that gives you one extra attack and just one. A level five fighter gets extra attack an action surge allowing them to attack three times once per short or long rest. Applying the mechanics that you have demonstrated would allow a level 20 fighter two gets six attacks on the first round of combat and an additional six on the second with a two handed greatsword and that is just not how that works.

@@matthewlenard8346 Action Surge Starting at 2nd level, you can push yourself beyond your normal limits for a moment. On your turn, you can take ONE additional ACTION. Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again. Starting at 17th level, you can use it twice before a rest, but only once on the same turn.
