Me personally, I would've went with Fallen Aasimar instead of tiefling because the Necrotic Shroud ability is basically a free Spirit Shroud where damage is equal to your proficiency bonus. Though, making Vergil an Echo Knight to imitate his DMC5 Devil Trigger is a pretty cool idea and I never thought of that!

Reminder for people wanting to play this build echo knight's echo counts as an object and is thus immune to most of the spells in the game and opportunity attacks (keep in mind with the 2024 books some spells have been rewritten so they can target objects and creatures notably eldritch blast for example

I will also mention for people who want to get the most out of this build and shadow blade instead of Dueling grab two weapon fighting and the duel wielder feat so you can duel wield the yamato and mirage edge (shadow blade) and reminder that bladesong only ends if you wield a weapon with two hands nothing's stopping you from holding two weapons, also like someone else mentioned fallen Aasimar would be a better fit going by what we have for dnd races for a half demon race because there's no such thing as an angel in the dmc universe and vergil looks like a human most of the time and he can't fly most of the time he has to use his demonic energy to do it (cast a spell), if you were however playing just a demon in that universe tiefling would be the way to go of course (also would like to add that the low dc for the fallen Aasimar transformation plays well into it because while any random person would be afraid of the transformation it wouldn't faze dante too much since he has Charisma investment and would definitely pass the lower dc)

I'd go DEX over STR while taking a rapier(mechanic wise) over a longsword for better AC and initiative.If I rolled high on stats possibly take the feats Piercer, Infernal Constitution, War Caster or Mobile.

Tenser's Transformation seems like a good spell on the surface, but you did leave out the largest drawback of using it... you can no longer cast spells while concentrating on it. Given that you are still predominately a wizard, spells are still your bread and butter. No Shield, no Booming Blade, no Steel Wind Strike, etc. While the package of perks is kind of nice, I feel like you can obtain a better suite by using other spells in combination like an upcasted Shadowblade or Spirit Shroud.

Personally I’d do this differently I would start with 6 levels of blade singer then dip three levels into echo knight followed by the rest into blade singer. I would also change it to start with 15 in dex, con, and int let’s be real he isn’t know for wisdom and wizard helps with that save. I’d also make sure to get thunder step for the added teleport.

Starting a new DnD campaign soon. I usually play spell casters I find them very fun to play, in that campaign I will be actually playing as an Echo Knight (a none spell caster for once) as I heard how fun and creative you can be with the main feature of the Echo. We are starting at level 3 and I might try to go with Wizard levels as well for Bladesinging. I'm not Vergil, but as a former pirate (in lore), I AM THE STORM THAT IS APPROACHING!

DARK SLAYER: Fighter subclass Unarmored Defense When you wear no armor your AC becomes 10 + your DEX and Con Modifier Swift Movement You gain 10ft of extra movement when your not wearing armor Dark Slayer Skill: Dark Pass Points You have dark Pass points equal to your fighter level. By paying the cost of one Dark Pass point you can do one of the following effects as a bonus action. - you can teleport up to your movement speed. This can also be used as a reaction. - you can make an extra Attack. Dark Pass points can only be regained after a long rest Dark slayer skill: Rune Work You gain the ability to improve your bladed weapons' with runes that deal elemental damage. To apply these runes you must succeed a slight of hand and an arcana check beating your rune check (8 + Dex + proficiency) you gain 1d6 elemental damage of your choice. At higher levels you can choose to improve these runes. At level 10 the damage dice becomes d8 At level 15 it becomes a d10 Dark Slayer skill: Spectral Blades As action you pay 1 dark Pass point per spectral sword that you summon. Staying in this form after the said rounds gains you one level of exhaustion per round you stay past your allocated turns - Your movement is doubled. - You may summon up to 10 spectral blades without paying any Dark Pass points - You gain resistance to non Magical damage - your weapon attacks deal an additional 2d8 - you regenerate hit points every turn equal to your CON modifier. After you use this skill it can't be used for 24 hours.

That's wild build, but i noticed that Haste don't allow to use dodge action unfortunately. Also i think that True Polymorph into Pit Fiend is a cool option to Sin Devil Trigger, but Blade of Disaster looks way stronger.

Totally agree, if I was going to optimize it that would probably be the way I would go. I just try to stick true to character, and I felt like it was more of a strength-based weapon for the Yamato

@@dndbuilds thanks for the reply! imo, strength is more of dante's stat than Vergil's, since his moves with yamato are very precise, controlled and elegant, so I would flavor yamato as a rapier But other than that, I think the build is perfect for vergil! Really fitting spells and everything. Great video!

I don't know if its just me, but I hate when character builders try to include V in a Vergil build. I find it annoying from a mechanical and a roleplay aspect. I love the build and what people do with it, but trying to do two characters at the same time when they are very different. At that point, just make two different builds instead of trying to combine them.
