I only saw it for the first time last month during hurricane Milton (I'm in Florida), which I rode out at a neighbor's house (which is less at risk of destruction than mine). Since the hurricane moved at a crawl, we were up all night, and he put on "Ted Lasso" to help us both deal with the stress. He's a gay interior designer, zero interest in sports, so I was surprised that he suggested it...until we watched the pilot. We ended up watching the ENTIRE first season that night! I streamed the other two seasons at home over the next two weeks, then started it all over again as soon as I'd watched S3 E12! Really hope they do some spin offs someday soon. Definitely my favorite series now as well!

Jason Sudeikis grew up and went to high school in Kansas. He's a KC Chiefs fan. The joke about him being a college football coach from Wichita State (a small Division 1 school in Kansas) is really funny if you're from Kansas because you would know that Wichita State hasn't had a football team since 1986.
@JeffKelly0310 ай бұрын
He and Paul Rudd are from the same town in the KC area, as well (I lived in the next town over from Overland Park -- Shawnee -- for one year right after I graduated from college), which is wild. Also, Ted's running man dance at the start is based on something he used to do to make his basketball teammates laugh. He was a good basketball player, too, by the way; he played against Tyronn Lue, who now coaches the LA Clippers, in high school and went to junior college to play himself but I believe gave it up to pursue acting/comedy.

LOL Not sure if you have found out yet in the last three weeks, but long before "Ted Lasso" was a full show, it was a promotional ad (yes, literally a commercial) for NBC here in the states the year that they won the rights to the Premier League! And yes, that was *also* starring Jason Sudeikis, who back then was a recurring cast member on NBC's Saturday Night Live, or SNL (the whole idea behind the ad was that it was an SNL-like skit where, yes, an American football coach goes and coaches in the Premier League). And yes, the actor who played "Coach Beard" was indeed his assistant in that skit as well. And yes, many of the one-liner jokes (like the "Wales"/"How many countries are in this country?") were taken *directly* from that skit. I bring this up both because it's a hilarious initial skit and I'd love for you both to react to *that* as well (😂😂😂), but *also...* When Trent Crimm asks the question, "Is this all a big joke?" (which isn't on this video, but yes, for those who haven't watched or don't remember, *that* was the question he asked about this entire premise of an American football coach who has "never set foot in England" and has no idea what the rules of pro soccer even are who has been tasked with coaching a Premier League team), it's meant to be a meta-commentary about the fact that *yes indeed,* this entire premise *was* meant initially to be a big extended joke (by NBC, to promote the Premier League after winning the American rights to broadcast the league's matches)! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thought you might enjoy hearing that - and yes, I absolutely believe you would enjoy seeing that initial Ted Lasso commercial by NBC.

You can actually see people walking around here in the US wearing AFC Richmond shirts. This show basically became "event television" here. This series proves that it's the story that matters - it happens to take place around a fictional football club and they handle the sports parts really well. From what I understand, the Premier League was very reticent to allow any of their trademarks to be used during filming. Then, it became a huge international hit and the PL said "Ok, we'll allow more in Season 2" :)

He's not really doing much of an accent compared to how his voice normally sounds, but he's basically talking like people from rural Kansas would talk. It's a sort of twang, that will also mix in terms that you'll often also hear in the South like "y'all, howdy, etc" but it's more common among farmers and ranchers in states like Kansas and Oklahoma.

I grew up watching football and going to Coventry City matches at the old Highfield Road stadium. When the big money and the prima donnas took over I lost interest and stopped watching. I understand football though, and was unsure how a comedy show could be made, especially by an American company, that respected the game but was also appealing to both fans and newbies alike. I started watching Ted Lasso with a sceptical eye, but was won over almost immediately. It is very funny, but also heartwarming and moving. I absolutely love it, it’s like a warm hug in a crazy world. I’ve watched it several times from start to finish and never tire of it. It is listed as a comedy, but it’s really a drama with funny stuff, you’ll see that as you get into it. Some people didn’t like series three, but I thought it was perfect and completed the story arcs of all of the characters, maybe not always in the way people expected, but it was satisfying nonetheless. I’d love another series or a spin off featuring some of the characters. I envy you getting to watch this fantastic show for the first time. Enjoy!

Oh, thank goodness the YT matrix spit out your reaction for me. I'm a footy fan in the US (ATL! UTD! Atlanta is the club for me!! - I waited 25yrs for the stupid MLS to finally give us a franchise), and have often wondered what people elsewhere in the world (especially from the home of * real * football) would think of the show. I've been telling people here that you don't need to know anything about football to enjoy the show, but for fans of the game over here, there are plenty of 'easter eggs' in it. Kit man (Nate) shouting at them to get off the pitch as he runs across it, etc. When the series was new, I often had to stop playback to tell some of my friends who aren't into the sport WTF I was laughing about. Some background: Jason Sudeikis was a performer on our NBC network's "Saturday Night Live" satire show years ago. NBC had gained the TV rights to show EPL games in the US, and asked him to make promotional videos for it. Those vids were actually 'American football coach hired as manager in EPL'. Still can't believe it was turned into a show, and worked out so well. Brendan Hunt ("Coach Beard") is an American who fell in love with the game while living in Amsterdam. He was one of the writers. Brett Goldstein ("Roy Kent") was also a writer, but as he wrote, he thought.."Hey, I could play that guy!" Auditioned, and got the job. He's said in interviews that the character was actually inspired by Roy Keane. Can't say more without spoilers. Gleefully awaiting your next reaction!

Took me a few months to wrap my head around promotion/relegation and the myriad of leagues and cups, trophies and titles. Still working on the offside rule and what each position is responsible for doing. #1 is usually the goalkeeper, #10 is often the striker/best player -- It actually surprised me to learn that certain positions usually wore a particular number.
