DFQ: The soft zone "prevent" defense clearly allowed the Packers to go the entire length of the field and score. We got carved up when Ed Donatell ran it in the 2022 season. I understand the book answer is because it doesnt allow offenses to get past your safeties for the "homerun play", but if the Packers go the entire length of the field in 3 plays, it just allows the same result it was supposed to "prevent." Question: is soft zone prevent defense REALLY the best end of game strategy?

If you are trying to stop specifically a touchdown, I think a prevent defense works *max* for like 3 plays. Probably 2. So if the game is going to go longer than that, I'm pretty sure it's a terrible idea. That said, having one more guy playing deep than usual, entirely different thing. Still wanna hear their answer, tho. Because I, with all my learning, am a dumb.

Hate's a strong word, but they do not seem like compatible people in general. Saleh is too hard nosed and regimented to be the kind of guy you can pair with a Bay Area stoner, at least without having some sparks fly. The real test will be if they can have a come to Jesus moment before the London game, or if this spirals into a cold war as the year goes on. I don't think they're very good on the football field anyway. Rodgers is just slow now, and that O Line is still struggling. That's not going to be a great formula against the Vikes fast and crazy pass blitz/rush. Half the Jets pass rush is gone too, and giving Sam too much time in the pocket is dangerous. They Vikes could win this in a blowout and send the Rodgers/Saleh Jets into a death spiral. Clean out in New Jersey at the seasons end. Shame the Vikes might have a good spare QB that might have been of interest.

Dumb question! When it’s 4th and short (1 yard or less) and the offense decides to go for it - please explain this play call. The quarterback will stand back from the pocket and hand off the ball 5 or so yards behind the line of scrimmage. By the time the back makes it to the line there is no place to go and it seems to end up in a loss of yards a lot of the time. Why do coach’s call that play? And why doesn’t the RB just run around the pile of bodies? I just don’t get that play.
