Do All Deaf People Think The Same?

Just wanted you guys and gals know there’s a few deaf police officers in USA. They succeeded in becoming police. Don’t let your dream stop you. You can do anything. Keep trying and get your foot in the door. There’s deaf people who are doctor, nurse, dentist, astronaut ( yes seriously there’s one here also) and even fireman. Go for it. They find a way around with speaking or listening. We have modern technology to help and aid deaf people. A deaf chief fireman who depends on hearing peers to communicate back and forth for every assignment they have. I’d love to show you a couple videos of them becoming one.

Great video Jazzy 👏🏿👏🏿❤️ That part was really interesting Hearing or signing in their head And the dream part It's so interesting - it is exactly how the auditory part of the human brain rewires to make up for deafness - the auditory part kind of becomes "bored" and it rewires itself to perceive other senses - and hence the kind of thinking changes to sign once they learn it Research shows that when deaf people lip read , they use their auditory cortex We , hearing people, won't understand how deaf people can see sign in their head (coz our brains are not wired like that) Similarly deaf people (who don't have any or the minimum residual hearing for hearing human voice or don't have cochlear or have been deafened later in life) won't understand how we hear spoken language in our head

i really enjoyed this, and i agree with Nikita (curly) as ive said this many times before. its funny how 'hearing' can be so lazy that they dont stop to consider anybody who is different most of the time (obviously not EVERY hearing person, but it seems like 'most'), either limbs or senses, and ive told everybody that its our duty to not be jerks about things we take for granted. anybody who is different (i dislike 'disabled' very much as thats what ive always been called), often times didnt choose to be different. just like prejudice takes something out of their control and uses it against them, having a difference like being deaf or blind or looking different or having different limbs, they didnt 'choose' it (obviously excluding people who did something stupid and had to adjust to something after), so for use 'hearing'... WHY ISNT ASL MANDATORY IN SCHOOL?? deaf are just as 'human' (its sad you have to mention that at all, but there are those morons out there...), but they make us learn all kinds of ridiculous stuff in school (many wrong anyways) because they think we 'need to know this', but they dont think we 'need to be able to communicate'? seriously? ive felt we should be more considerate of others all my life (including to animals) because all i see is so much hatred and stupidity it drives me mad. if people focused on others more (oh dear, ive just offended MOST of the modern world @_@ ), then maybe things would be better for EVERYBODY, not just a select few who stepped on others to get 'higher than'. ive only just found reliable ASL resources online and have taken about 5-6 days of actual youtube 'classes' from ASLU (bill vicars classes), and have progressed a bit, but i really cant find any of the actual community i WANT to get to know better, around here. :/ at least being ignorant can be fixed by opening oneself up to learning something new, and being aware and more sensitive to others... but "you just cant fix stupid". thank you for this video, and i have to say something to Jemma and Benny : if you want to be police or investigators, do it anyways! idiots ARE everywhere, for sure. but as a practical person (and somebody who also wanted to be police to HELP others, as well as an investigator), you could OBVIOUSLY bring plenty to the job that is seriously lacking. first, deaf are much more aware and visually acute than anybody else i have seen, so thats a great job to be in when you see things others dont. this is especially true with investigating. also, police pretty much never go anywhere alone (at least here in the USA where i lived), they always have a partner. a hearing/deaf team would be scary good at their job together. please dont give up if you want to do that. IF youre area/ country/ whatever is set against it, then do it as a private citizen, and start a deaf consultancy where you do the same job you wanted to do WITH them, and now they can pay you to set your OWN hours and pay and be even better at it than they are. who do they call when they need help with other deaf? they MIGHT have one or two they could call somewhere who happens to have some experience signing, but having a consulting company who is readily available (kinda like calling a lawyer when you need legal help), you have a deaf consultant agency, who ALSO does police work. investigators dont need to go to 'police school' to learn to do investigating. public safety officers dont 'need' to be police to do public service and help keep people safe and such. dont let the 'blind' (figuratively) shut you out because THEY cant understand YOU. show them what they are missing. :) on the note of 'Nikita not wanting to do hair because she cant be chatty'... even if you dont want to now... there are always ways to innovate or invent new solutions that nobody has thought of yet. ive been thinking up ideas for a long time to help with all kinds of 'disabled' people (like myself), and the first thing that comes to mind is the 'animals push buttons to talk' videos. having a similar setup on the back of a chair or next to it on a counter with quick 'phrases' you could push to 'talk' while your hands are busy is super easy for a nerdy type to throw together, and even having visual clips for signing or audio (or both) is just like what people do for those 'loop station' musicians like "the kiffness" and his talking/singing cat videos. I learnt alot being surrounded by deaf peers near my age. We all went on similar or different journey in life. We all got vast communication needs, some sign, some dont, some lip read, some dont, some oral and some cant. I am part of a massive all deaf, Deaf, deafen, hoh, coda, allies of deaf gaming guild called Undaunted for world of warcraft. It is one of best deaf community I have the honour to be a part of, with over 300 players. We often ask each other questions you did. And all answer been interesting. The best bit is so many different answers that it give many different deaf individuals opportunities to find or meet someone they can relate to. :)

As I watched that segment I was reading the captions and I thought to myself, when I read, I am saying the words in my head and I'm 'hearing' them in my head. How does a deaf person read? That's a silly question to ask on the surface, they can obviously see the words, but how does a word 'sound' in their head?

All countries have different sign languages. I am in Norway, and I only know Norwegian sign language. All my deaf friends in Norway have their own personality when they sign. We sign the same signs, but we all have our signs personalized because of our individualism. Example: Some sign more soft, some more rough with their hands. Some more slow, and myself I am very expressive and like to use full signs and no short cuts. It is very personalized how we sign, but my friends and me all sign the same language. I don’t understand Jazzy 100% because she uses BSL. I understand a lot. Mainly because of the expressions on her face as well as the signs she uses that make a lot of sense to me. I still require subtitles for her videos. Sign language is not only hands. It is facial expressions and body movements and vibe all together. Personally I think sign language is the most beautiful language. I wish everyone would want to learn signs to include deaf community

I think Bsl should be taught in schools. I can sign sse, but BSL is slightly different and people should know it

I am also deaf and have a lot of trouble with work. I also gave up my dream job because of my deafness. Mine biggest struggle is making friend, because i don't know how to make friends with hearing people. Maybe is it because I’m not so of talker. but the thing is people here is not very nice to deaf people so there is a lot of discriminati. so rn i don't have friends but im oke with that. And I’m sorry if there is any mistake I’m not so good in English!

I've just thought, it's unfortunate the placement and positioning of the CC captions are awkward aren't they. They often cover people's hands when they are signing. Do people find this is often the case? I haven't watched all that many videos with CC and only just noticed.
