I am taking Sign Language to become an interpreter because of my best friend who is Deaf. I am now fluent in 3 Sign Languages. I am from America, but I have learned BSL because of YOU! I appreciate how you're not rude or snotty when informing because that helps no one. You're kind, and informative, and us as hearing people have a lot to learn... Happy DAW!!!

Sometimes i find communication difficult as an autistic person, so will rely a little bit on basic BSL to try and communicate with close friends and family when i am unable to speak. I would love to see schools teaching more sign language! Also love the video, i love learning about the deaf community so i can communicate and understand more communities without doing things that unknowingly offend the deaf community Xx

BSL is very similar to Auslan (Australian Sign Language). I went to a public school where Auslan was offered as a subject. To this day I still have deaf friends and use Auslan every week in my sports team because we have a deaf player 😊

When I had my bsl classes we were told not to use english/anything that would get us into an english mindset and use gesturing if we didn't know certain signs yet. Sometimes the teacher would let us write what we wanted to say/question on the board and then teach everyone how to sign what had been written. Love this video for deaf awareness week 😍

My wish is for BSL to be taught in schools and I hope for the future atleast every child will know how to finger spell. I'm currently doing my Level 1 and it is hard the more I learn but I'm determined to be able to communicate with the deaf community effectively 💛 Happy Deaf Awareness week hope you have a good one and thank you as always for your super helpful content 😊 Xx

So last year when wearing masks in public became the norm I googled masks with windows for lip reading. The article I found suggested learning basic signs instead. So I learned the alphabet, numbers, colors, request, questions, and answers. Almost immediately I started bumping into deaf & HOH customers.

I am learning Asl. We actually have a deaf ministry at my church. I will talk to them sometimes. This will really help me with that. I actually just got notified today, that I will get to sign one of the songs on Sunday. Really could not have come at a better time for me. P.S. I hope to learn BSl one day. I am just sticking to one at a time right now. And I am going to take ASl next year in high school. It really made me happy cause they offered it. And that there were so many students who wanted to take it. I think it just around the corner. At least here in the US, to where you will see more and more people start to learn it.

Perhaps if deaf people emerged from their own clubs and went to hearing ones inclusion would happen a lot quicker. Ditto if hearing attended deaf clubs. Lecturing people from distance is never going to work it will be ignored. Next up 'What deaf people have to do to talk to hearing people?' or 10 things deaf should never say to hearing? fair's fair. We need to drop the attitude and blame games.
