@Linus From my understanding the large majority of people who gave birth to hiv positive children did not know that it would pass on because it was early into the aids crisis and there wasn't scientific understanding about it or they likely did not know their status when they got pregnant. Now there is more understanding about how to prevent transmission and rates lower than 1% have been reported by the cdc (although their are discrepancies related to race likely due to class and healthcare disparities).

If someone is Undetectable and CAN NOT transmit the virus. It's not necessary to disclose their status. It has nothing to DO with the other person at that point. And not everyone who has sex, has sex with someone they're going to see again, can trust etc. So imagine being in a small town and HAVING to tell someone u have HIV...and turns out, that person doesn't like you anymore and goes out and decides to, with malicious intent, tell EVERYONE your private medical business. You can't force a person to give that much power over your private medical issues to anybody. I highly disagree ON a moral stance, I always disclose for myself. Cause i just prefer 100% openness and honesty. But you have to think about the real-world implications and a lot of people here are only thinking from a place of fear for yourself. When, if you're undetectable, you can't get it anyway. So that's ungrounded fear....aka stigma...hence, purpose of the video
@Furiouspenguin27
@Furiouspenguin27 4 жыл бұрын
Raif Derrazi there’s always a chance you can transmit it because you’ll never have a 100% confidence of no transmission. If you don’t tell someone, you’re not only a douche, but it should be a criminal offense for possibly ruining someone else’s life. Also, if it can affect the other person it is no longer your “private medical business.”
@RaifDerrazi
@RaifDerrazi 4 жыл бұрын
@@Furiouspenguin27 The CDC as well as many world groups/organizations have agreed the SCIENCE shows there is no transmission. everything else is just opinion and fear at this point. In Canada, its a crime to not disclose your HIV status before engaging in a sexual activity. Yes, it requires a "realistic possibility of transmission" but the HIV virus mutates with every replication. Just because your viral load is low now, it may not be in a month from now regardless of what you may be doing to treat it. Unless you get tested every day how likely is it that someone always knows their viral load status at the time of sexual activity? Just disclose and let what happens, happen, rather than potentially ruining someone else's life.
@trevor_corey8037

This is actually somewhat true in regards to the replication and mutation. The antivirals actually stop the replication cycle . It doesn’t get far enough to mutate. So there is no transmission risk is someone is atop their medicine. Purely speaking from a molecular biology POV. No word on the Canada law

@@trevor_corey8037 Sure, I'm not doubting the effectivness of HIV treatments in general, but can you definitively say that they work perfectly 100% of the time? As with most things in medicine/microbiology, other factors, environmental or otherwise, could negatively impact the treatment's efficacy. If only one person got infected with HIV due to the treatment not fully working as intended, then the law still serves a very important function in this regard.

I think you're bashfully taking this out of context. Yes, it's wrong. But when the guy said that he admitted that this is when he was fairly new to the diagnosis and was learning to deal with it. These are truths, so instead of being bashful we need to be solution oriented.
@s.stasiaa

@@sfprettyboi I'm not taking anything out of context. Part of the solution is for people to learn to be more mindful about these kinds of things. If you're aware that you're HIV positive, emotion cannot and should never trump logic when it comes to your sex life, especially if you engage in casual sex. Knowingly putting someone at risk for an STD just because of "the heat of the moment" is horrific. But yeah. It happens. That's why everyone should practice safe sex or don't have sex without the other person agreeing to get tested. You just don't know how other people think.
