It is often heard that the Prophet ﷺ said that if a man calls his wife to bed and she refuses him, that the angels will curse her until the morning. It's sad that the guy in the video clearly misinterpreted the hadith. All you need is read a few more narrations on the topic and things will get clear. He said "it doesn't mean decline but rather protesting against" and gave it a context "weaponising sex" But the Truth is he's wrong, cuz there is a sahih narration that say "even if she's baking food" and also a famous one that says even if she's on "camel's back" So, clearly it's not just "protesting" or weaponising sex but also declining sex.

Abdullah bin Abu Awfa said “...the messenger of Allah said: '... If [the husband] asks her (for intimacy) *even if she is on her camel saddle,* she should not refuse.'” Sunan Ibn Majah 3:9:1853 Allah's Apostle (Pbuh) said, " If a husband calls his wife to his bed (i.e. to have sexual relations) and *she refuses and causes him to sleep in anger,* the angels will curse her till morning." (Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 4 Hadith No. 460 & Sahih Muslim Vol. 2 Hadith No. 3368) The Messenger of Allah (swt) said: By him in whose hand is my life, when a man calls his wife to his bed, and she does not respond, the *One Who is in the heaven is displeased with her untill he (her husband) is pleased with her.* (Sahih Muslim Vol. 2 Hadith No. 3367) Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) related, “There are three people whose prayers will not be accepted by Allah, nor do any good deed of theirs risen up to heaven: a fleeing slave until he returns to his master and helps him, a woman whose husband is angry with her until he is pleased with her, and a drunkard until he becomes conscious.” (Ibn Hibban) The Prophet (pbuh) said, “When a man sends for his wife for the satisfaction of his need, she should go to him even if she may be occupied in baking bread (cooking food).” (Tirmidhi)

Physical intimacy is a thing that should be enjoyable for both husband and wife. You wouldn't like it, if your wife just lies there like a dead doll. It'd feel like making love to a corpse. I know many men would argue against this brother's explanation. I've already seen it in the comments section. To those brothers who's denying the explanation, remember Allah SWT knows what's in your hearts. You can't fool Allah SWT (Astagfirullah), if you're not righteous with your wife in bed, you'd have to face the judgement during the hashr. In Surah Baqarah, Allah SWT told men to approach their wives with righteousness and take care of her in the bed like a farmer takes care of his farmland. And we all know how preciously a farmer takes care of his farmland otherwise, it'd bear no crops. Fear Allah SWT, stop trying to manipulate your wives. Allah knows what's goes in your minds.

When you use words like obey, duty and obligation with sex you turn something that should be a mutual activity into a one sided thing where it's "for" the man and for the woman it feels like a chore or a sacrifice. Something she just has to do. And besides taking the choice away from something immediately makes you irritated with doing it. It's a psychological thing. A person who likes to stay in doors will become very annoyed with being "required" to stay indoors,as the recent pandemic has shown. It's the same with "requiring" women to sexually "obey" their husbands.

If a man wants to have those responsibilities then so be it women shouldn't discourage it they should encourage it because having 4 wives is apart of the sunnah and it actually has some benefits because it gives you more free time/more rights. Some women make the point that "men have to marry divorcees, widows, etc" but when a man asks to marry a virgin as the first wife (which is recommended by the prophet peace be upon him) or have 4 wives they make their own judgement and say "you guys shouldn't do this". If a man wants all the "pain and headaches" so be it they are getting good deeds if they are doing it for the sake of Allah. Love is important and its definetly secondary (forgive me for this comparison lol) think of this you have a sandwich the bread and the meat is the marriage that has the requirements like providing, obeying, etc and the marriage is dry without the sauces (which is the love) but without the meat its just a sauce sandwich and its not satisfying and if its just the sandwich with the meat only its a dry marriage. If the gift is like 50k mehr, g wagon, a lot of gold, and a trip to hajj (this is just a example im not saying these are your standards) no one should be crying just say asalamualaykum and carry on with the next marriage unless you have enough to afford all of that. As a Catholic Christian, I believe that there are times that a wife may decline sexual relations for good reason. Sometimes you are just very tired, or you don't feel good, or " I'm not in the mood." It seems that maybe the woman doesn't feel that she will be able to give her husband what he deserves in the marriage. She may feel that she will not be at her best with her husband if she decides that she wishes to not engage in sexual relations. It may not always be a punishment. She may just not feel at her best, and that she may not be able to honor her husband sexually at that point in time. Just my honest opinion. Nothing against the husband at all.

Alhamdulilha for this video and this perfect explanation. So many men misuse this Hadith to control their women and manipulate the words of the Prophet. As a woman I always wondered why is the curse only applicable to women and not men when Allah is the most high and most merciful! Men use fake statistics that claim men have a higher sex drive than women, which is not true at all. A research more recently conducted the number of times a women/men think sex about sex. The data actually illustrated-that women do have a higher sex drive than men. However, due to social norms it is a taboo for a woman to speak about sex out loud like men do because if she does she is labeled as …fill in the blanks……due to social norms. I think the misconception stems from Men thinking sex was created for just them. That is why you will often find men that speak about sex out loud but shame women who do the same. imagine misusing this Hadith to a non-Muslim women smh. We have to do better as Muslims. There is a balance in islam. Husbands understands when the wife is sick, tired or weak....its a good reason for them to refuse. But when the wife is able, is healthy, is strong and still refuses...then its an entire different situation. Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If a man Invites his wife to sleep with him and she refuses to come to him, then the angels send their curses on her till morning." Book 67, Hadith 127 Looking in isolation, these Hadiths tend to give the impression that a man can force his wife into intimacy. However, the bottom line behind this impression is taking these hadith in isolation. The correct meaning of the Hadiths is that physical intimacy should not be used by women as a protest, pressure tactic, blackmailing and forced negotiation among other negatives, i.e. it should not be used as a weapon against the husband. We find this quite common in the modern world. Is that the only meaning of these Hadiths? No. The act of intimacy should not be denied without a valid excuse. Another wording of the hadith Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If a woman spends the night deserting her husband's bed (does not sleep with him), then the angels send their curses on her till she comes back (to her husband). (Book 67, Hadith 128) The word تَرْجِعَ translated above as till she comes back has more meanings; it is also used in the sense that till she returns or till she repents. Repents from what? The scholars of Islam unanimously state that having a valid reason is regarded as something acceptable. If the wife has a valid reason not to engage in intimacy, then she does nothing wrong. Now why would she refuse without a valid reason? The answer is stated above which is that physical intimacy should not be used by women as a pressure tactic, blackmailing device, and forced negotiation among other negatives, i.e. it should not be used as a weapon against him.[1] What if she’s simply not in the mood or lethargic or does not want to take a shower because she needs to wake up early the next day? Would these be valid excuses? These would be considered valid excuses and to counter that, the husband has to set the tone/atmosphere, be romantic and bring her in the mood to change her decision. The husband have be positively reciprocal in that the Prophet ﷺ forbade from engaging in loving making before foreplay. If she still doesn’t come in the mood, it may be natural biology, psychology, or nature and may fall under the subjective valid excuse definition.

Helping your wife with household chores is a sunnah. Any man that sees it beneath him or is too arrogant to help his wife around the house is acting against the sunnah and is guilty of chauvinistic behavior. Serving one’s husband is not compulsory on a wife as supported by Imam Malik, al-Shafi’, and Abu Hanifa. In other words, they opine that a wife is under no obligation to cook, clean, wash, sew, etc. for her husband. If the spuse workes then is will be have a domestic such tasks. Lady Aisha, the wife of the Prophet, was asked, “What did the Prophet (ﷺ) use to do in his house?” She replied, “He used to keep himself busy serving his family (كَانَ يَكُونُ فِي مِهْنَةِ أَهْلِهِ) and when it was the time for prayer he would go for it.” (Bukhari) The word used in the hadith is mihnah (مِهْنَة), which is translated as ‘busy serving’ here, also means in the Arabic language ‘work’, ‘job’, ‘profession’, etc. This implies helping your wife in the house is part of togethernes. Whether it’s helping wash the dishes, cooking, cleaning, raising the kids, etc., is all part and parcel of being the ‘man’ of the house. The notion that it is somehow frowned upon for men to help and work with the wife around the house is foreign to Islam. In another report Aisha is reported to have said, “He did what one of you would do in his house. He mended sandals and patched garments and sewed.” (Adab Al-Mufrad ) In yet another report it is said that she said, “He milked his goat.” (Ahmad) This is part of the joy of the being married. “The best of you is the one who is best to his wife, and I am the best of you to my wives.” (Tirmidhi; Ibn Majah)

But if I’m asking is because we women are scared to marry someone who only wants us to do what he pleases. Seriously there are men that marry a women to cook for him (as a main reason). Others that don’t let their wives to go out ( imagine yourself being imprisoned in your home and never breathing oxygen) or to work, to have fun with friends ( girls, always in halal way). There is a sinister aspect to how men in our societies willfully misquote and misuse this Hadith simply to guilt women into having intimacy even when they do not feel up to it. There is the added discussion to be had about why a woman might not feel up to it - because there are far too many men who are abusive in their relationships with their wives, are inconsiderate, insensitive and unloving, and yet they expect the wife to be drawn to them. Husband and wife are in a two way relationship, and each has to win the love of the other. This sinister aspect I mentioned earlier has to do with marital rape, a sad and shameful reality in many marriages. Yasir Qadhi did well to categorically condemn marital rape and clearly state that a woman refusing to be intimate with her husband cannot be subjected to forced sex. I think all discussions clarifying this Hadith must include that categorical condemnation. In Islam NO-ONE has the right to force themselves upon others, and EVERYONE has the right to not be subjected to anything against their will.

Islam is a religion that emphasizes rights of all parties involved in any matter, irrespective of their gender, age, social status, race or religion. All rights come with obligations and all obligations come with rights. The underlying framework to all rights and obligations is built out of love, compassion, and consideration - as is all law. To follow the letter of the law without living the spirit of the law is to become robotic, oppressive, cruel and inhuman. That is when an entire marriage can be reduced to a discussion about intercourse and when the entire discourse about intercourse is turned into what what a man *must* have and receive irrespective and independent of what he must first offer and provide.

Al-Bukhaari (302) and Muslim (2293) narrated that ‘Aa’ishah said: “If one of us was menstruating and the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) wanted to be intimate with her, he would tell her to wear an izaar (waist wrapper) at the peak of her menstruation, then he would be intimate with her.”

Both parties have a obligation to satisfy their spouses desires depending on how needy the person is, but it has to be reasonable and not harmful. So basically a husband refusing to take care of his wife is a violation against her rights and against the marriage contract. In fact, in a Muslim country she can go to the court for a complaint and if nothing happens, she is given a divorce. So if a man has issues with having a relationship with his wife, he either needs to fix it or leave her since it is haram to leave her unsatisfied.

Why forced women to do anything?
