Really great points Peter. I don't think you can expect to be able to compete with professionals without talent, but also without putting in the time and doing the hard work. BTW I see you have the Neumann KH310s. I got a pair of those myself and find them superb.

Thanks for your comment. Yes I think the KH310's are very reliable, what sounds great on them, sounds great everywhere.

YES if you want your tracks to have that sonic quality sound or unless one has the gear and expertise in order to acheive such quality. Thats why there are so man poor mixes and masters out there sounding thin. Especally for the internet iphone/smartphone generation.

True and false. As people like me buy very little to no new music due to audio the sins of the last 30 years anymore, musicians need to focus on the „instagram“ herd. You therefore need top notch professional mixing and current sound tricks, which often goes into the arranging field to stick out a bit. If you you do not compete in this pop business of the anonymous mass, learning Mixing and mastering yourself is a viable way to go. I‘d rather buy and listen to something that sounds dated and not load but is great music . I can put compression, limiting and Eq on to my taste, but I cannot change music.
