100% with David's statement "Healthy vs Body Positivity" I feel like being fat is what people notice on a person so much that it becomes part of who they are. So when anyone tries to suggest losing weight, they take offense and start talking about self-love. Being fat doesn't take away that you're still a human being but it also doesn't take away that you're still unhealthy.

Same dude. the way I see it, Your body's a machine. looks aside, your hormones are not gonna be working running at the right place which is gonna effect other functions, and working on your health is self love, you wouldn't mod a car if you didn't love it, that said you wouldn't want gas tanks hanging off the sides of it either cause it's just unnecessary, it'd be nice if people thought about shit in depth instead of going with trends

About the Asian parents thing... David has a podcast he uploaded a few months ago where he’s talking with Khalif Boyd and David talks about where his dad told him/he realized that his dad is old now, his dad can’t change, David is going to have to adapt to his dad now, and I think that’s a really important thing for a lot of people to realize about their parents regardless of your race and culture. Excluding people who actually had/have trash parents, I’ll say sorry in advance, Maybe your parents can eat used cat litter then. But I’m talking about kids who grew up with parents who did not have anything when they came here and their parents did not know anything, but still manage to raise their children into adulthood and convey that they love their kids in some way. The point being that...you can’t expect your parents to give or do things for you that they don’t know how to do, or they are physically, mentally, emotionally, etc not capable of doing anymore. And don’t think of it as they’re purposely not doing it for you to piss you off or teach you a lesson or whatever negative thinking you have, but think of it...if you have like 60 year old parents, who started literally from nothing...they knew nothing in this country, they probably had shitty parents so they didn’t know how to be parents, like...realistically speaking, there’s not a ton of things 60 year old parents can do anymore, and especially if you’re/you’ve Been an adult, they’ve brought you along this far already, What else are you expecting now? Like you’ll just have to learn to forgive and have a talk with your parents. If it doesn’t work out then I’m sorry, but I don’t think it’s fair to blame everything on your parents when...if you really talk to your parents or ask them...I bet 99% of the time they’ll tell you that they didn’t know. They didn’t know that about you. Have you asked them if they’ve tried their best? I bet you their answer is a big fat Yes. Of course they tried their best. Any person who restarts their whole life in another country, no money, no family, no language, no education, no skills....if they didn’t try their best, well then, best believe they wouldn’t have survived. Also, parents know they fuck up a lot, they have made and will make tons of mistakes. I bet they regret a lot, but they think they’re the parent and supposed to figure everything out by themselves. Don’t condemn your parents without really talking to them about it first. I think if you talk to them, they’ll admit things and say they wished they would’ve done this for you instead and maybe you’d be happier because that’s all they wanted, was for you to be happy and live well. If you’re not a parent yet, I truly believe you’ll understand what your parents mean if one day you have your own children.

This video called me out hard, I've been struggling with my weight for a while. I'm not like 300lbs, but I'm 5'7 and over 200lbs This is the largest I've ever been in my life. And I hate it, in my last year before 30 I really want to create my ideal body because I'm just tired of not liking body. I want to be proud to show myself off. The notion of hurt people hurt people really fits in well. Hateful people are really only projecting/echoing back the hate they received from someone else and don't know what to do or how to heal from it. We simply weren't born with hatefulness, grudges or with self-esteem issues.

Hey David, just a quick idea, I think it would be cool if did a few podcasts with different subscribers and talk about their stories. From a listener perspective it would be so interesting as I'm sure your audience is so diverse and I think you have the ability to talk to them and explore their experiences in a way no one else could. Just an idea lol love the podcast and all your guys' stories - thank you!
@DavidSoComedy
@DavidSoComedy 3 жыл бұрын
Problem with that is that from a podcast point of view 98 % of people are not good at speaking openly or publicly. People froze, locked up, or told clearly fake stories just to be featured, or when it came to talking they couldn’t tell their story because the mic made them nervous. and the formal setting made them uncomfortable. Being a story teller and orator is a huge part of making a podcast fun to listen to and it’s a lot harder than people think. I have canned probably over 30 podcast because of these issues and it’s a fun idea but you can understand how tiring it can be to shoot an hour of something with people who can’t speak under “pressure”

I can't relate to both of your experiences but i come from a family that has shunned me for my sexual orientation and i don't think i have the capacity to forgive, at least not right now. My mom is trying again to have some semblance of a relationship again so I think ill come to forgive her some day but my dad hasn't yet even tried. I can't be in the same block as him with out him leaving. He has so much hate and they have been so cruel in my coming out that forgiveness feels like they will never be held accountable for there actions. They said some horrible shit that i don't think will ever really heal and showing them forgiveness feels like the cut goes even deeper

I wanted to comment on the segment regarding asian parents since mine were Chinese immigrants. Even though my mom (may she rest in peace) told me about how she and my dad immigrated to the U.S. and some snippets of her past, I don't truly know what they experienced. I am CERTAIN it was VERY rough, MUCH ROUGHER than my upbringing which was also rough. My mom grew up in a dysfunctional household (no father figure) which most likely contributed to her mental health issues. When I was a kid growing up, I wasn't allowed to hang out with any friends after school or even cousins. I was lonely most of the time because both my parents were working MULTIPLE jobs all day long to make sure that we had food on the table and we were poor so even though I wanted things like toys, I learned, over time, to stop asking for things because I knew they couldn't afford it. My mom really wanted me to get into a good university so I could get a good job so she was very harsh on me since kindergarten. Every time the report card came home and she saw that I didn't get mostly A's and a few B's, she threw a tantrum that looked like this: she'd get very angry, go get a clothes hanger or bamboo stick, and start physical hitting me on my back or legs several times (it hurt A LOT). Afterwards, she'd immediately sit down against a wall, start screaming and crying and banging her head against the wall, saying things like "why are you trying to kill me. (shes referring to the fact that I didn't get straight A's) You're such a bad kid. I want to die" and that was the same thing that would happen EVERY time the report card came home because I never met her expectations. She'd also physically discipline me whenever I went against her order to not hang out with my cousins. She also wouldn't trust me to let me do things on my own so that developed severe confidence issues in me. I've been working on all of these personal issues I've developed as a result of my childhood and maladaptive behaviors I've learned over the years. I'm better now but I still have a lot of work to do. I have good reason to blame and be angry at my mom for what she did back then while raising me. But, I also forgive her and understand that they did the best they could've for the situation they were dealt with. I love my parents but at the same time, blame them for such a shitty childhood. All I know is my own childhood. I don't know what other East asian americans went through so I would never generalize. But, one thing I DEFINITELY do not do is go out and perpetuate some type of "asians are being suppressed" or "asians are not standing up for themselves" message. I have my own shit to deal with and I still have to find out a way to make a living and hopefully, become successful someday. I don't have the time to go out to rally for stuff that doesn't really affect me that often.

It does suck that an extremely marginal group in the overall body positivity movement gets the most attention in social media, as it just derails everything about it and opens up such negative discourse that is unproductive. Now it seems that the focus is solely on overweight/obese people and opponents portraying that body positivity is nothing more than fat acceptance, which just steers people away from supporting the overall messaging or getting the wrong idea about it from those arguing in bad faith.

@reaganparris2920
@reaganparris2920 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe not, but it does save people from developing eating disorders and unhealthy relationships with food, exercise, and their bodies in general. What you basically want, and frankly I'd respect your argument more if you just admitted it, is for people to look a way that is comfortable for you to look at and enjoy. Lizzo's body isn't one that you personally can orgasm to, and you're salty about it. If you were concerned about her health, or that of other overweight people, you wouldn't have made a comment like this. More still you'd acknowledge that she is doing EVERYTHING that people like you say she's supposed to and still isn't small. Lizzo exercises almost daily. She's also vegan. She has also mentioned going to the doctor who has given her a clean bill of health. What else do you want her to do? Someone mentioned Rebel Wilson. She has lost 45 pounds so far, but it has taken her almost a year to do it. More over she still isn't tiny. She exercises regularly and eats well and she still doesn't look like she is, according to you at least, the way she's supposed to. When I was in the midst of an eating disorder, I weighed anywhere from 86 to 100 pounds at 4'11. Even at 100 pounds, which is technically my "ideal" weight, I was always feeling ill and tired, had thin hair that broke all the time, and I had breathing trouble and heart palpitations. Everybody and every body is different. Just because their bodies don't turn you on or give you something you think is fun to look at doesn't mean they are ugly or unhealthy or that they need your asinine comments about how they look. Now go away and think about why you felt the need to say something so dickish on a public forum. BTW Lizzo is fine as shit 😘
@1x403
@1x403 3 жыл бұрын
@@reaganparris2920 if you’re almost morbidly obeast you already have an unhealthy relationship with food and exercise , you said “lizzo exercises almost daily. She’s also vegan” how do you know she exercises daily are you with her everyday or taking her word? Also being vegan doesn’t equate to being healthy it just means you don’t eat animal products,you could eat a bunch of soda,candy and chips because that’s vegan and BTW i do not care if you are attracted to big balls of human slime 🙏✊🏻
@reaganparris2920
@reaganparris2920 3 жыл бұрын
I am taking her word for it cause why lie about something like that? And if she is oh well. But I'll continue going on the assumption that she wasn't lying. My point behind mentioning that at all, because frankly it shouldn't have mattered anyway, was that people who think like you assume that if you do this or don't do that that you'll be this and that isn't always the case. Like I said, every body is different. Presumably Lizzo is doing everything in her power to be healthy, and presumably is if she is to be believed. So again like I also said in previous post, you don't care about her health or that of other overweight people, you worry about what they look like. You proved as much by that ridiculous final comment. Because she doesn't sexually excit you and because of that you can't reduce her to a product of your adolescent fantasies, you feel the need, not to show genuine concern regarding her health, but make rude comments about how she looks TO YOU. My entire point is this: Making people feel bad about themselves makes them sick it doesn't motivate them. It makes them hate themselves and reduces their value to what they do, literally and figuratively, for other people. When talking about Lizzo specifically this rhetoric is particularly problematic. Black women's bodies aren't here for your entertainment or for you to sexualize. By extension they are not under your control to punish or demean when they don't fulfill the role you want them to. More generally, stop trying to make people feel bad about themselves. It makes you look like a dick and I'm sure it's pretty exhausting trying to find new ways to hate people. Relax bro. PS for all the black people and especially black women who may read this, as a white person I'm sorry if I overstepped speaking about your experience. I truly didn't mean to and if anyone feels uncomfortable or that they are inappropriate feel free to let me know and I'll take them down.

I disagree with health & body positivity not going together, it only doesn't because for a lot of people body positivity is just fat acceptance. REAL body positivity is about treating your body with love, and doing things to and for your body coming from a place of love. A healthier lifestyle and choosing to lose weight IS body positive because of the long term benefits of how you're going to feel about your body. The message has been muddied by the call for fat acceptance.

I’m not Asian by any means, and perhaps I cannot relate to you guys in that topic. but like the Christian side of this I think it’s real interesting how you guys approach being a person; the Bible states do as Jesus did and such. But people tend to want to do that only in a setting where it elevates them and shows they are “better”. but you guys; in your own religious stand have basically reached that point the Bible is trying to convey, a point that gets lost in the back and for banter of church’s being hypocrites. Everyone sins, I’m no saint either but I like that you guys attempt for a better spiritual relationship day by day.

Uhm, the reason people DO protest is because they ARE going through crap. People are murdered and killed for their social activism in today's time.

Yes you got have body positivity but the most important thing is being healthy. Whether that's being bigger or skinnier. People will always hate if they can no longer relate to you. Misery loves company and if you're no longer in their company they'll crucify you. I remember the Man Vs Food guy. He was doing good challenges and eating at an unhealthy weight. He started exercising and taking care of his health and some of his "fans" started turning on him. Smh. Can't win in this world.
