This is why I love GeniusBrain, everything they do from film making, video games, relationships, emotional intelligence, life advice, college stories, importance of mental health, personal development, dating, career, comedy, Asian American experiences, mma, ufc, martial arts etc. is why I love this podcast! Somehow 95% of what they talk about on this podcast really pertains to my interests and stuff. So its basically perfect to someone like myself, and others who specifically have an interest in these various topics. I thank the universe for the existence of this podcast :) Thank You David for bringing on all these guests since starting this podcast, especially episodes like this as in recent years I started to grow an appreciation specifically for Korean Cinema. I don't know why, but something about their film making just really stands out to me.

The reason why stabbing is more heart wrenching, is because it is more personal. The act itself requires a person's continual commitment to finish the job, it's slow, more painful, and conveys rawer emotions/passion. We don't feel as much with a gun shot because you pull the trigger, it's quick, easy, over and done with. There is a reason why the phrase "you stabbed me in the back" literally and figuratively, hurts, it's the act of betrayal.

If this becomes a film discussion podcast that would be fucking awesome. I love film and film analysis and discussion. If you do decide to go down this type of podcast I would suggest talking about films you like because this makes me want to watch more Korean movies. I watched "Along with the Gods" because you talked about before. Now I know what I'm gonna watch this weekend. So many critics now just talk about what they hate about the movie or films in general it's a nice change of pace of people talking in length of what they enjoyed about a film. Also please talk about "Parasite" (my favorite movie of 2019 right next to "1917")

One of the best genius brain episodes if not the best. I don’t really think of movies in this kind of way when I watch them so having it broken down for me like this was a whole experience. But it’s also probably because you guys have watched this movie over and over again to pick up on these things that I would have never noticed/never thought about. I love and appreciate the living shit out of your channel. Been watching since I was 13 years old and now I’m in college so I literally grew up on watching your content. Thanks for your work David!

The different Korean dialects is really similar to Vietnam. There's North, South, and Central. North is where the big cities are and where the capital stands. The dialect there is considered "proper/perfect" (It's the accent that most will use in music). South is countryside farmers. They have a different accent and sometimes entirely different words. Central I've come to assume is a result of mixing North and South dialect. It's has the funniest accent and no one understands them lol

This movie leaves a lasting impression, especially if you're now an 'older' Korean. Captures that old world, but when friendships were real. Always have your worst fight with your best friends. It's alot more memorable then alot of the more later movies that are better filmed.. this movie is from the heart.
@jauqesh3 жыл бұрын
what i took from the ending of "chingoo" was that it was dongsu's own underlings that killed him since it was the guy holding the umbrella over his head that grabbed him behind the back and allowed another person to stab him. It's most likely his own boss ordering a hit on him since he's been acting out in public too much or for not finishing the job on joonseok. Either that or two hits were occurring simultaneously with joonseoks men killing dongsu as well with orders from above joonseok ala "we do what we're told." If dongsu had left with joonseok for the airport they might have both lived. i've taken the ending of joonseok saying its "humiliating" to mean that either its humiliating for dongsu if it comes out his own men betrayed him or that it's humiliating for joonseok that he couldn't stop his own men from killing dongsu.

Watched Chingoo after seeing how thirlled and excited David so and Ed were, every time the film is brought up. I also watched the movie after listening to the Chingoo segment in the podcast, so I had what i ASSUMED to be a ROUGH analysis of the film. But when I finished the movie, I am stunned on how much David and Ed pretty much covered everything, including the nuances in the character behavior. Also, I would not have picked up the meaning of the white cake if not for their explanation. I would had thought it was simply a celebratory cake with some unkown meaning. My eyes are beyond red and teary when finishing up the segment with Joon-seok was sentenced, despite Jung-ho (the clown/ the fourth guy / lawyer / support role character) tried so hard to make Joon-seok deny any connections to the case. But Joon-seok chose not to abandon his henchmen, and we can see how moved the henchmen were, looking up at their boss with quivering lips. And the ending was even more beautifully done when we are given the classic, white-lie treatment. Joon-seok lied about humiliation, to spare Sang-taek grief. I'm sure Sang-taek picked up on that though. I'm speechless man. Holy crap.

One of my favorite movies of all time. My friends and I can relate to so much of the relationship dynamics. Especially since we ran with gangs ourselves. My catber watched it with me and we bonded over the nostalgia. He used to retaliate by breaking the school windows whenever the teachers beat him. My grandmother got tired of paying to replace the windows so she pulled him out of school. Thats when my dad joined a gang and did ratchet shit. Full circle.
