We are preparing to get a chameleon. Just in the beginning of my research. The clerk at the reptile store recommended a smaller cage stating that baby chameleons can fall and hurt themselves in a larger container. It immediately sat wrong with me, because as you stated, in the wild they don't even have cages. I am curious about your thoughts on that statement.

Oooh good question. Since you have an uncommon enclosure size, I'd strongly encourage you to get a solar meter so you can know exactly where to put your UVB bulb. Here is my video about solar meters: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaTbfHyOhMSWh9k and here is a good resource that has a chart that should help you figure out what UVB bulb to get for your enclosure size: chameleonacademy.com/chameleon-cage-set-up-replicating-the-sun/

omg can this explain why my baby 2 month panther isn't growing? I have him in a 20 gallon fish tank with this UV bulb. he's climbing up and down his plant fine. I see him eating okay but he's just not growing. When I had bought him, I believe he just hatched. He was just a half inch. now, he's only 1 inch. is this normal? I already have a 24x24x48 cages setup a long time ago but was afraid he was too small for this size. should I move him now to the bigger XL cage? TY in advance

@NeptunetheChameleon
@NeptunetheChameleon 3 жыл бұрын
While it may be hard to find your chameleon in a larger enclosure, we must keep in mind what is best for the chameleon. They need to have lots of hiding places to feel safe. It will be stressful for them to be moved to a new enclosure and get reacclimated to a new home. If you do decide to go with a smaller enclosure first, be sure to raise your T5 5.0/6% UVB to be 48" above the bottom of the enclosure.
