Yes, but these companies sometimes fail because the investors lose confidence and not really because the one product is bad. Even a mild review coming from a big influencer can shake investors enough to give up on a company that is legitimately trying to put out a good product. I read some of the tweets about this, and people are definitely bitter. But there is a reason the reviews are so loved, and I think you nailed it in this video. I also don’t get most of the products you review, but it’s fun learning about what is going on. Keep it up!

Yeh, but don’t you think it’s a little odd how much this product is getting slated? “Worst product ever” I mean really? When you delve a little deeper and discover that the founder of the company was fired from Apple for suggesting that the company’s best days were behind them… Not saying these guys are Apple shills or they’re wrong (I agree with their points tbh) but everyone has noticed the reviews are a little bit different for this product.

@@TwistedSoul2002maybe cuz it's a first gen product which inherently means it will probably be overpriced and not good, also pretty much the only good thing about it is the hardware/materials, the rest of the software is way below for what you should be getting for 700 bucks, but then again it is a first gen product so it's kind of expected. It may be good to look at the first gen products as just kind of proofs of concept, they just make it to see if it'll even work, then use the feedback to hopefully make a much much better follow up to it. It just so happens that, not all companies which get themselves in that scenario, make it out of that phase and actually get to make another device

There was a man who ran for president a few times with the green party named Ralph Nader. He was a lawyer who worked predominantly in consumer protection. One of the books he wrote was called "Unsafe at Any Speed" and critiqued the automotive industry, and in particular GM's Chevy Corvair. While GM attempted to sue and smear him (for which he sued and beat them), the Corvair was ultimately taken off of the market and The National Traffic and Motor Safety Act was developed from his work. He was an advocate for all people against the natural tendencies of corporations to exploit consumer ignorance for their own gain. In our present context, I do not know if Nader would have been recognized as the public advocate that he was. Had his book been about Tesla or some startup, there would be a mob of brand advocates that would undermine the very act of critique as a service. And this is not just a problem in technology. Our culture lacks both actual critical skills and the valuation critique even when one cannot critique something with their own faculties.

Marques, in case you read this, I have been watching all your reviews of products since your review of Blue Spark Microphone back in 2013. I have found your point of view to be put together in a way as to help me make a decision between products when I do not have the luxury of trying out different ones and find which one suits my need. In the world where everything is driven by incentives, I find your approach honest, refreshing and welcome. Thank you for being honest, calling out everything as it is. I am looking forward to a future where reviewers like you set the presedence for honesty on the internet. The whole world would count on that. Thank you for all you have been doing for past 15 years, very grateful for that. Onwards and upwards!

your honest reviews are the literal reason i’ve been following you for ages (and keep coming back to you, compared to other youtubers), and why you’re able to gain such a following in the first place, because honest opinions create trust and respect. you’re explaining the obvious here, but the fact that people can’t differentiate between a critique and hate or whatever is mind-boggling. imagine defending companies that charge insane amounts for their gimmicky products - over the people who are borderline scammed by falling for it. what about the companies responsibility?

The issue of honesty for me is a fundamental factor in MKBHD reviews. I always notice that the products he presents were actually used by him, the Cybertruck review and foldable smartphones were an example of this. I even remember the video where he complained about the delay in delivering the Cybertruck, in which if he had bought Tesla shares it would have been better. I think this honesty is the most valid point of the entire channel. I live in a country where the vast majority of product reviews are biased because they were "sent" by companies. MKBHD allows us to see these products through the previously calculated "noise" of these companies composed of almost inspirational videos of use or suspicious techdemos. Continue your work!

I assume you didn't watch his steamdeck review. He barely touches gaming (typically console) and proceeded to tell PC gamers it was unfinished...lol. He is far from an authority on topics. He could have easily left it to someone more capable and knowledgeable.
@m.pixelated7 ай бұрын
Concerning the Steamdeck and his lack of gaming hardware knowledge, which I do agree with, was he wrong though (at the time of the product's release)? He was not the only one who said what he said.
@hawtdayum7 ай бұрын
@@m.pixelated He was wrong about a bunch few things in the first few minutes like valve and hardware support. 1. He stated the steam controller was a flop/abandoned. (it still gets updates but the lawsuit on haptics killed it SCUF / Corsair) I got one. 2.Steam link hardware has been replaced by software and can run on any capable PC connected on a network. But it still works fine as i have one. 3. Valve Index is still being sold 4. At the time of review he mentioned steam machines that were not made by valve so they cant be faulted by hardware not produced, maintained by them. He played 2 games DIRT and NBA 2k..... A large number of games are compatible even without the deck verified designation but he played....2 games for a gaming console review.🙄 Incorrectly thought a controller needed to be mapped to work when he can either map it himself or find community controls in a few button presses. Thought the battery is closer to 2 hours when simple tweaks can easily extend playtime and if you are just running the system full tilt there is a diminishing return on the battery. Funny enough the Steam deck had a larger library of working games than the PS5 , Xbox or switch at the time. Now it's even larger. (not even going to include the back catalog of 10's of thousands of emulated console games) So he does not get a pass as he had qualified staff that could have reviewed it and he was not qualified to. So he was FAR from right in his "review"

Bro, you are literally the world's most important consumer advocate. You are a utility. The lens of truth you, especially, and other notable reviewers provide to the public are the few trusted resources we have against the endless onslaught of advertisement, fact cherry picking, exaggeration, and misinformation. What your initially humble mission has become is now bigger than any of us. Will a bad review ruin a company? Sure, if their product sucks, if they've missed the mark, if they aren't actually ready for market. A spotlight on your channel is the best highlight luck could grant a start-up company. Carry on.
