I have lived in Northwest Arkansas all my life, about 20 years ago a nice older couple asked me for directions During our conversation they told me that they had just moved to the area from California. They were so happy to be away from all of the crowded cities and over regulation, in the same breath they said “but there really need to be some laws about the old junk cars and equipment that were on a nearby farm” I looked at them and politely stated that that if they wanted that to happen then they should probably move back to California. I pointed out that we were in a rural area and some of that “junk” might actually be operable and used daily (my farm truck runs just fine but it looks pretty bad because of my cattle) If you are from California and moving to another state you need to leave California ideas in California

After living in Portland, OR for 4 years and watching CA people move in I can already tell you that the good things that people in Idaho are used to will get eroded. Here's what you'll start to notice. 1. traffic (with highly aggressive drivers) 2. the places you used to go now have way to many people so you stop going to them. 3. housing prices will go up exponentially. 4. you will start to look elsewhere to escape them because they tend to move in and impose their ways. If you don't believe me ask anyone from Oregon or even Washington. It's real.

I'm all for people moving to another place to seek a better life but NOT ok with them getting here and then wanting ID to change. ID has already become a little CA because of the BIG CITY mentality and DemoBrat leaning politics. The most vocal complaint, even more than the impossibly sardine-like, multi-family housing tracts going up everywhere, is the FACT that MOST moving here don't like the Idaho way of life, and have CHANGED our beautiful area into another BIG CITY operation, lowering our childrens' chances of affording their own homes here in THEIR home state and instilling more restrictions and fees on Idahoans. BIG CITY exodus money leads to HIGHER PRICES for housing and too many are bringing BIG CITY ideals, changing the very FEEL of our ONCE VERY close-knit community. Boise doesn’t want to become California. It wasn’t really noticeable at first, it was nice that Boise was finally relevant but now it’s scary. The price of homes significantly have increased, there is more traffic/accidents. Californians should know Boise is not used to change this fast. I was born in Spokane but grew up in California. The state is a miserable failure and the majority of voters seem to vote for the kind of crap that is making it miserable. I am one who has considered relocating to Idaho. But, there is a problem with the areas which are nice, scenic and hospitable, they draw in all of the left-leaning whacko liberals that were drawn to beautiful places like the Bay Area, Big Sur and Monterey Bay. I now have second thoughts about relocating to Idaho BECAUSE of all the Californians who are moving there. They are who I want to get away from. Its sad really...we have a bad californian problem in Nashville. There are more californians than native Nasvhillians. They raise house prices, they change the culture, they change the politics, they change the values. We live here because of our conservative values and they come here, hold protests and scream words of hate toward our "intolerance" and we are supposed to accept it. I've seen sooo many natives get displaced from their homes in Nashville and move 30 miles out just to maintain. We visited Boise recently with hopes of moving and saw this amazing landscape and almost emotional beauty just to then run into the hoards of Californians downtown talking bad about the locals. Looks like someone left me a nasty gram reply a couple days ago but it got deleted. Mel L, if you’re listening, no, I’m not part of the problem. I was born and raised here and have been involved as much as I possibly can in local politics and follow a multitude of court cases. Unfortunately I’m only one man, and all of my efforts are fruitless. I agree with your sentiment though, I used to, and still do encourage people to stay and fight instead of just running to a different state just to escape the politics. However, that is not why I am moving. I’ve been fighting this liberal disease literally all my life on the internet, in local council meetings and open forums and recently, even on the street. Believe me, I’m not running from anything. But, I have a family now, 3 young kids, and I need to focus on their upbringing now so that they will grow up in an environment that helps them to grow up with the same values I’ve been fighting for my whole life, and not in the toxic environment we are in now. So, while I agree with you in a general way, maybe tone down the anger a bit. You don’t know everyone’s situation.

I'm a 5th generation so ca native. I consider myself pretty conservative. I've seen ca change considerably, especially in the last 2 decades, but I still love it. I'm located where the beach, desert & mountains are all within 1 hour away - don't know of any other state that has that. I visited Idaho once, about 25 years ago with my husband and 1-year-old son. Just a week-long family vacation. Lots of beautiful places, but some of the most unfriendly almost "cultish" group of strange people I've ever encountered & I've travelled plenty. My son who is super healthy & never been sick except in Idaho - caught some ungodly cough that kept getting progressively worse. We brought him to an ER and both the lack of a modern medical facility in Boise coupled with the complete moronic handling of our son helped us decide to never again step foot into the place. People are flocking to Idaho because they can't afford to live in ca. In order to survive here & live in a sense of comfort you need to possess 3 traits: A true willingness to work/hustle, resourcefulness and kindness. Kindness goes a long way in surviving. These comments from "Idahoians" are full of hate, mixed with a bit of jealousy - it's obvious they could never survive here. True Californians are welcoming, hard-working & givers.

TL;DR If you move to Idaho to become an Idahoan you're welcome. If you move to Idaho and try to change it to suit you better than the people already here then you're not welcome. Just realize that this is *our* home you're coming to and we don't like it when we're looked down upon for our lifestyles on our own doorstep. Even before I lived in ID it was largely the same-- big city folks move to get away from the big city, but want to take the big city with them. They complain that the farms smell bad and so they force the farms to leave, and they call the small towners backwards hicks with wrong opinions and silence them, usually politically. In Idaho it's much worse though. Before I moved here I thought, "there's no way that there's seriously that much bad blood between Idahoans and Californians, that's gotta just be an exaggeration born of Reddit and KZbin comment extremism," but it astounded me how often I saw some Californians look at us like zoo animals when I talked to them. Rarely directly insulting, but you can feel either a passive-aggressiveness or a quiet disgust, or in the best case just simply not being able to see things the way we do. Of course not everyone from there thinks this way, but I think that SoCal in particular has this tendency to think the rest of America works just like they do. So when they go somewhere else and find out that not all of America has the same cultural makeup as they do it shocks them. It's at least enough that I've noticed it in personal experience. So final word, are Californians welcome here? About as much as anybody else, it's just that the tendency for them to look down their noses at us is noticeably higher than people from other places. There's this perception that they're invaders come to take away our way of life-- and some of them seem gleefully happy about civilizing some stupid desert rednecks, so it's kind of hard for me to defend them by saying they don't.

Rudolph Donner This has been happening for awhile. Thanks for the heads up needed it about 15 years or so ago. Californians use to claim residence in both states and collect walfare in Idaho and California. Then it moved on to this stuff. Thank you for the words of wisdom. I hope Texas finds some use for them maybe use them for roping practice and give the steers a break. (How bad has everything devastated Texas heard some nasty stuff.)

I've seen so much free land taken away from public use by Californians who brought a mountain home or some ranch land than close off area to people and families who used that land for generations for recreation and living is so disheartening to see take the snake river just past Palisades Dame in swan valley so many homes sprung up as riverside property making it difficult for the angler's who spent decades fishing that river, and they put there houses there for the beautiful scenery but there homes destroy the scenery

Trust me, there is a HUGE difference between a California "conservative " and one from idaho. Colorado is having the same issue... It sucks here now, the place I lived my entire life is now ruined. I could write an entire piece on California's. Driving, rent/housing, politics, none of it is any good. I was going to look at Idaho and Montana when I finish my degree because of how bad it is now. As for voting Colorado swung Democrat in the last election, they vote for the same politics that got them into their mess, the mess they are trying to escape. Californians have ruined my home, and it looks like they're doing the same to yours.

I would say break up California into 3 states: North California which includes the Bay Area(San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose), South California which includes Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego, and the regular California which includes Bakersfield, Fresno, Stockton, Sacramento, and Redding. The regular California in my example would be a "red"(Conservative) state.
