I bought a Hangkai 3.6 a few years ago for my inflatable pontoon. I broke the new motor in for about ten hours in my garage before taking it out for a test run. It ran great! I used it often with no issues. The key to success is to follow directions concerning break-in. I had watched so many videos where the purchaser took the motor straight from the box then onto the lake and invariably the owners ran the motors balls-to-the-wall. The motors let them down. DUH! Another point to make is that my motor came with the lower unit dry. FIRST THING: fill lower unit with hypoid oil like any other outboard motor.

The trick to small engines like this, lawn mowers, weedeaters, give it full choke for a couple pulls, then half choke. When it starts, let it run with a little throttle to warm up. Once it starts to level off, flip the choke off and you're usually good to go. This video is a year old so I'm sure you've figured this out by now. I see in any of your recent videos you're not running this motor. Did it give out, or was it too much added weight or just get in the way with all the other stuff you've got on the boat?
@humbugvideos Жыл бұрын
Haha, funny you mention that. Yes, I sold it because it was just too much hassle to carry around. I also upgraded my trolling motor and it went the same speed as the outboard so I saw no point in having it. Still worked great though, I would totally recommend it for specific scenarios!
@mitchellfultzable5 ай бұрын
I have one and it works pretty well. It weighs less than my 6 year old son lol. I keep it up under my bow for emergency situations. I even had to use it once to get back to the dock. All in all, I think it's pretty cool. I'd still keep a paddle but she is a decent substitute for one lol.
@clintperry7992 жыл бұрын
Two things , the weight and torque can break your transom. Second the movement and vibration can cause the motor fall off. Make sure the screw clamps are tight and check on them periodically.

Wassup fellow tiny boat enthusiast. Got a link for your SUP paddle? Also, I saw some vids of guys that reinforced their transom. I did mine kinda like Zoffinger's, with HDPE and a torch. Not that I have any regrets, but think the angle of the motor mount is probably the main culprit of stress on the boat...gonna make some wedges and try to get it to plane level, (with me and gear in seated position).

i had an older version of that motor wont ever buy another one its literally a very small weed whacker engine maybe 28 or 29 cc's it didnt break but it vibrated my little ten ft jon boat so badly that one of my rod holders fell off in the water i was also worried that the vibrations would crack the welds on my boat also the engime literally has to run wide open to move the boat and yoor literally movimg slower than you could walk a few days after the fishing trip i took the thing apart to try to find the source of the vibration couldnt fully diassmble the thing the propellor was stuck on the output shaft when reassembling i found out if you very lightly torque the bolts you strip the threads my suggestion is just dont buy this motor period there are better quality engines on ebay and amazon granted they more but theyre decent

Seems rather low expectations. I’d have expected start in three or less pulls and would not be surprised at first pull. Even harbor freight small engines start first pull as long as you are nice to them (no nasty gas with alcohol for one thing).

Just get real Honda and you will prevent many problems. We still use 4 stroke Honda that my dad bought at 90's. Ofcourse it needs service sometimes, but its servisable and still you can find spare parts and it still runs well. I bet these knock offs wont last as long.
