With synthetics, there are precedents in the coloured stone sector. Synthetic spinels, rubies, emeralds etc have been on the market much longer than synthetic diamonds. Initially, many consumers were cautious about buying the natural stones because they look the same as the synthetic. But today the price of the natural coloured stones have more than recovered and are increasing parabolically. Meanwhile, the synthetics cost a few dollars wholesale and occupy a niche in the low end of the market. This has taken place with very little to no marketing from the miners or wholesalers.

Except only about 20% of jewellery containing corundum is natural. The rest is treated or lab , yet buyers still pay a premium and like many jewellers with diamonds , most cannot tell the difference. Demographics are also important, and right now, diamonds are boring to most of the sub 40s. Have a look at the amount of diamond rings at pawnbrokers. They will pay for gold and coloured stones, but zero for diamonds, as they have a ready market for opal and ruby,

Full credit to Paul. Super binary in his responses and considerations of industry. He’s not all glass half full just because this is his specialisation. Nice interview 🫡

Assuming they get funding it should start progressing. You could argue it is only the second time because the Gutnick years were a joke of an operation!
