Crispy: "Class is the worst doctor who spinoff" Me, an Australian, who is wildly aware that the Australian K-9 show exists: "......uhhhhhhhh"

Genuinely loved hearing you guys talk about the Unit Spin-off idea! I know it's happened in the audio books but It'd be cool to see it happen haha

You probably know this now, but SJA couldn't always get the rights to K9 because K9's creators were trying to get their own projects with K9 off the ground. This led to the short-lived Australian series called, I believe, K9. By all accounts it didn't do very well, which is why K9 appeared slightly more often in later SJA episodes.

K9’s limited involvement with Sarah Jane adventures I think was a rights thing. They would have to get agreement of the creator of K9 and they were wanting to develop their own non-BBC spin off with the character (which became the Australian made K9 series)

I remember John Barrowman being annoyed that Torchwood: Children of Earth only had five episodes. Simultaneously, David only got four specials that year. Torchwood was very weak and uneven, with only Children of Earth to recommend it.

The spin-offs expand the universe and can be hit-or-miss, exactly like the books, comic, Big Finish, etc...
@MrRjhyt3 ай бұрын
For me, it was always ironic that Torchwood was meant to be edgy and more adult. While it felt like who could swear the most and act the least mature. Meanwhile SJA was aimed at a younger audience, and dealt with isolation, homelessness, and much darker topics. Edit: For me, Class didn't feel like a spin off. There just wasn't the connection with the history of the show. It felt only tangentially related. The main antagonist wasn't in the whoniverse previously, or since. The Weeping angels as the over-arching villians was completely without logic, or sub-plot.

on why sarah jane and company didnt make it past one ep: as well as rights issues, K9 is apparently just a huge pain in the ass to film with and no one wanted to do a whole series with him. its why he only shows up in SJA every now and then

I wish that they would let Big Finish go beyond the end of Class in their range though technically the last release went over but wasn't the same as a proper continuation.

Is there reason why they don't let them make "season 2"?
@Jogproof2 ай бұрын
@@Jepze158 Not explicitly I assume that when it made sense to make them they were probably not allowed in case it got an official s2 and now it's not worth the effort though I obviously disagree especially with how great other BF Weeping Angels are.

With K9 in the Sarah Jane Adventures it was something to do with the rights and so they were restricted for how to show him.

Considering we probably have season three scripts, or fairly well-developed rough drafts, can we be sure we have Ncuti?... If nothing has been filmed? This has been an issue in the past for Doctor Who...

When spin-offs have bad episodes, it’s just kinda, whatever. When spin-offs have good episodes, it just makes you wonder, why is the doctor ignoring this world ending threat? No, doctor who spin-offs don’t make any sense

How does crispy not know about the K9 solo spin off series? Wasn't that Australian made? 🤔 (And rubbish, just saying).
@joshuajoshua27323 ай бұрын
I personally don't think they do but that's just my professional opinion I just enjoy the main show more I always enjoy watching the Doctor travel in his phone box seeing where he goes next what villains he'll face I don't really care what goes on outside of that. Some spin-offs have been successful in the past such as "Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Xena: Warrior Princess, Angel, The Mandalorian but problem is nowadays they make too many of them and too many prequels which I find some largely unnecessary and are just made for the sake of them I find prequel spin-offs series boring I just miss the originality. I just think it's all a cash cowl now instead of brilliant creativity.

You do know those star trek shows aren't spin offs?
