Video Summary: Elements do make an impact, but with what we've seen in the endgame so far there's a lot of flexibility in who you use and you can use almost whoever. Sure you may lose out on some damage bonus from buffs or some damage from boss weaknesses, but clearing is still doable with 2 characters for all endgame content. They will probably buff the content in the future and when that time comes it will be more essential to chose specific teams, however I believe kuro wants its players to have more freedom in choosing what they want to use. TLDR: Elements matter

Elements are mono element teams when you have enemies weak to certain elements, and resist other elements, if you look at the tower buffs, they give certain buffs to specific elements, so down the line you would want multiple elemental teams to clear content, but for now just use whatever units you like but keeping this fact in mind for later

Also I meant to allude to the mono teams more at the beginning when I talked about boss weaknesses and resistances, but I probably messed up on the wording so my bad for that. Either way good looks, I'll be more specific in future videos.

I mean essentially you just need 2 elements then, one to counter where the other one is being resisted?

Elements in Genshin is conceptually smart. Beyond just limiting characters with a type of elements, this elements can be added together to make teams with various results. Issue is thats conceptually, in practice none of the elements are equal and outside Freeze are all a glorified way to do damage. Electro-charge and Vaporize are the same thing despite playing differently, both are just there to do more damage and so does hyperbloom. The initial math is intricate for Theorycrafters but after a while, you don't need that to understand more. Dendro is a funny elements, elemental reaction is key to Genshin success yet the devs went out their way to limit any interaction with Anemo, Geo and Cryo. Not even a mono Dendro meta works living you with only hydro, electro and Pyro but you quickly realize the Pyro reaction sucks. Soits mainly Hydro and Electro. The devs restricted their own elemental mechanic for the sake of being able to dictate their meta living with less room for experimentation outside fun factor. Dendro gives everything wrong with this elemental system. From a surface level its interesting but deeper and its just more of the same thing we're use too (more damage), on top of limiting reaction so that the devs gets full control of how to use the element. Nowadays characters don't need to even play with the reactions to do good, just big numbers. Example is Arlecchino, she does more damage in Vape setup than Hu Tao despite not being designed for it unlike Hu Tao with ICD all because her numbers are just bigger, thats it. Neuvillette too has less reaction synergy than Ayato but he just does more damage in his slot always anyway. After 3-4 years Hoyo has gave upon intricate kit and just go for big numbers now. WuWa could had that initially but they took the I/O skill instead for each characters. Can only hope they know what they're going for and that characters won't fall off as quickly as PGR. Also forgot. Reactions tends to make some elements just better than otherslike Pyro and Hydro are plainly better than Geo and a Pyro unit will always start with good point ahead of a Geo unit. Elements are not comparable and therefore unfair.

But reactions are there to introduce creativity, theory making, and interesting team builds. Without reactions then combat system would be too restricted and units with higher numbers would always win. In genshin some units with low number gets used often because they have lower ICD and can react more than others, example like xingqiu, fischl, nahida etc. Regarding dealing more damage.... Of course the point of reaction is to deal more damage, that's how you kill the enemy, but even then in genshin there is still crystalize, freeze, swirls which functions not as damage dealing But as support reaction. Which anyway is better than no reaction at all

@@greenesttea3687 That's what it is in theory but you quickly realize in practice that's not true. Before Chevreuse came in, people looked at Pyro as just Vape or Mono Pyro unit. Cryo is also just freeze because other reaction don't have good unit for it. Unit are straight up restricted to an archetype because attempting anything else is just straight up worse which is the results of reaction and element inegality. .... For this I don't want to sound mean but I suggest you to talk to TC's or comments with people having a good understanding of meta. Because, unit with low numbers but ICD and then citing Xingqiu, Fischl and Nahida? Those units do a LOT of damage. On top of that ICD isn't the only thing they do that makes them good (resonance, buff, energy particle, damage reduction etc...). They are good because they do a lot not just because of ICD. The point is that reaction aren't a creative battle system. They are in theory but Hoyo took the boring direction of just damage for most and in the end the reaction that do more outshines the ones that do less. Vape, Melt, Hyperbloom outshines electro charge, crystallize, Bourgeon because they are better at doing damage. Swirl is the best way to make reaction do even more damage. Only freeze doesn't concentrate on damage but crowd control and survival. Reaction HAD the capabilities to be more complex and include more unit (Xinyan, Dehya), unfortunately Ho yo didn't go there and now doesn't even care about reaction by just buffing Fontaine's unit numbers.

@@dendenmushi9714 yes those three have low numbers, my point being they deal a lot of damage only because of reaction and how they enable other units to get reactions( and other things) You are correct that it's unfortunate the reactions now are aimed at dealing damage mostly. But it still adds a lot to the game : mechanically, visually, and creatively I played games where elements are just like fire weak to water, water weak to earth etc... And it feels so much worse than reaction system. This feels like they want us to pay for more characters so we can clear more contents. And it sucks

Honestly I think Kuro wants to go in the direction of freedom, by making it so people can use whoever even for later end game stuff. This would appeal much more to the casual audience since it wouldn't require building as many characters. Whether they do this or take it down the pgr route is up to them for sure, but I feel like currently it's more similar to the former.

So... I know there are enemies with elemental resistances, but are elemental weakness also a thing? If so, there is an incentive to build different teams targeting each weakness. If not... It's still a good idea to build 3 different DPS for the tower of adversity, but not much incentive to diversify after that.

I agree that it’s not complicated, but I saw some people on Reddit complaining about it being complicated so I thought that was why they removed it. Either way they removed it based off of player feedback, which was my main point

As much as I dislike Genshin for their lack of end game content, their elemental system is one of the best ever Wuwa will follow PGR and Honkai system where the elemental type exist purely to force people to use different team and characters against different boss cuz of their element compatibility ( and I bet you they will add new element to force people to get a new character when we have too many character and the meta settled), Genshin do that too of course but on top of that they also offer unique reaction and type of gameplay when you combine different element and therefore characters. The fun of Genshin is to experiment with different element and character to see if they work in a certain situation, sadly this only happen once every two weeks and maybe occasional combat event every month or so and that pissed me off. On the other hand, PGR and Honkai 3rd focus more on the combat content and I bet Wuwa will be like that too where there will be a lot of combat activity every week but the issue with PGR and games like that is that people will be a lot more Meta focused since there isn't much in term of interaction between element and therefore limit team building variety, most of the time you will build one element team with few flexible chara to slot in the support slot making the gameplay very static.The only reason you switch your team is for elemental compatibility and if the new meta more powerful chara drop and replace the less optimal option. Of course genshin has meta too and optimal team combination is already established but because there are a lot of variable within a combat section, the dev has a lot more freedom to add more variable like adding enemy that immune to a certain element or giving them shield that only certain element can break, making a traditional optimal team useless while a less optimal team in term of pure DPS will have better clear time in practice. This is on top of having 4 character in a team instead of 3, on paper you only really need 2 team so 8 chara in genshin while in PGR you need one team for each element that consist of 3 chara so on paper you play with more chara in PGR than in genshin but in reality I end up using 1 DPS on each element while the support is pure QTE bot with the exception of 1 team where I can do full rotation so I end up with only 8 character that I actively use in combat (6 element with 1 dps each with only one team has 3 chara active in combat). I clear all the content in the game including EX6, Historical all stage and reach 1.8m score in Pain Cage to unlock the extra difficult bonus content and all you need is just one chara on each element (6) and the rest is A rank/free S rank pure QTE bot as a support with lvl 1 memory and weapon at super low investment. So here lies the issue, in one game you can make countless team combination with unique gameplay and reaction (elemental reaction aren't the only variable btw, some chara can heal and give shield or do off field dmg and you can increase or decrease the comfort and DPS as you see fit) but nowhere to use them while other game have a lot of combat content but you end up using one team doing one rotation 100 times. Both suck but that is an issue you have 100 or 200 hours into the game, I think people will really love the first time they progress into the game and get into knowing the chara and their abilities but end game suck on every game I guess. This coming form someone who play Honkai, Genshin, PGR for over 3 years. I'm looking forward to Wuwa but I really hope they don't fall into the PGR/GI static meta chasing pithole that burn out a lot of people

Perhaps a good way of working around the necessity for elemental usage would be to make every new unit fun to play. Like, if everyone is enjoyable to use and has fun mechanics, there would be less inclination to use meta characters or some like that. Maybe that could be a good way of spicing up mono team combat. Either that, or have bosses that swap through 2-3 resistances, so that way it may diversify teams.

I feel like they’re counteracting this by making every character have a unique kit that plays differently. Genshin is a game based off of manly quicks swapping ans it doesn’t have elements such as intro/outro skills, parries (except one character), counters, air combat, and echos. This adds enough spice to its gameplay and makes it so it won’t fall into the static meta trap, with unique and fun gameplay as a baseline they don’t need to rely on things like elements for fun gameplay. I do understand where you’re coming from though, in Hi3 I mainly built characters for elements and in genshin I built teams around reactions. It does give less of a purpose to building a variety of characters in wuwa in that regard, however as someone who likes the unique kits of all wuwa characters I feel like this will still be really fun to play.

"countless team combination with unique gameplay and reaction" Not really, if it does not match the reaction then its trash. Water+electro was not good, Electro+fire is terrible, and Geo only works with itself. Most people mostly use Hyperbloom/Melt/Vaporize.

Genshin is more zippy but the combat fluidity in WuWa is unmatched. Also the frickung mc actuallt SPEAKS in WuWa and the genshin mc is such an npc with 0 opinions and maybe three dialogues till Fontaine. Also the dialogue choices in WuWa actually change every scenario, other char voiceline change based on what you pick and even the story
