I put the Flo Pro twister resonator on my 2018 6.7 because I hated the highway drone after deleting it and adding the 4inch straight pipe. It helped so much! I also had one single 30 hp tune so I didn't care abut making insane hp numbers. It was a daily driver for the most part. I'd recommend to anyone that can't stand drone to get a resonator because they definitely help. This guy was also running a muffler too, so that along with a resonator seems like over kill. Just my 2 cents though. Run what makes you happy.

I have to agree those fte style mufflers reduce a lot of noise but they are heavy restrictive. I took mine off and dropped egts 200 degrees and it just ran so much better. Now have a Flo-pro 5” straight thru muffler and it’s perfect.

I took my ram to the shop because of the cat engine light only to find out it didn’t have one and the one on the exhaust was a resonator, I’m thinking of just cutting that off my self and sticking something and clamping it down with some exhaust clamps, but idk cuz idk that much about vehicles. My ram is a 4.7 so it’s not fast but the resonator makes that truck so fricken slow

a simple straight through resonator with fine perforated screen inside will really cut down on noise and drone and I doubt it will sacrifice much if any power, that stupid twisty thing is obviously going to be a real restriction!!!

@@mvcg-cl4cr eh.... thinking about putting one on my straight piped 6.2 Detroit... its got extreme drone, and the exhaust is dual 2.25 back from the down pipe so it certainly isn't going to restrict it more..... on a stock truck those things DON'T seriously restrict exhaust but you are talking about turboing and tuning and are gonna have much higher flowing exhaust.... they make a 5in version also which might do the trick or perhaps you could put two on with a y and y back down.... I'd think driving without a resonator is a non option long term unless ya wanna go deaf.

I used a second muffler of the same type to reduce my noise. Not sure if it hurt my power or not. Magnaflow 12770 and a 12773. Interested in your thoughts. I recently tried to weld a hander on it and burned a hole so plan to replace it with 5 inch of the same type. The pin hole has so much pressure which is what spawned the idea to throw more money.

the loss is far more dramatic in this case because the res bottlenecked the exhaust from like 5" down to 2.5" at the res...ofcourse it will rob power

Another company has done it with a 5 inch exhaust and made 819hp straight piped and 800hp with the twister. I'm running it on my 5 inch system as i'm no where near where its going to make a difference.

After watching this video I removed my flo pro 4" twister p/n 51299 and now my s369sxe does not build boost no way as quickly as it did before. I do understand the restriction when making large HP due to the volume of air flow but at moderate throttle the turbo response is so much more laggy and smoky after removing it. Instead of re installing the twister I am gonna try a straight thru aero turbine resonator to see if my lower end boost response is restored. If all else fails I will keep the 70 to 120 hp loss up top and reinstall the twister ..

It seems that the culprit is factory resonators. Performance resonators don't have that inner tube which without a doubt be a restriction.

Put one of those on my '16 6.7 and thought the no drone was great...until I mashed on it and felt the power loss. Went to a straight through perforated resonator and never looked back

Best muffler I’ve had is Aeroturbine, hands down. They are made to increase flow by design. And on a 5 “ it is 5” straight through, and they do not neck down to 4”

I had a 3.5" Aero on my Dmax when it was stock, I really liked it. Not too loud, no drone, decent sound, really good product. Thats the only device on the exhaust then, no resonator and mine never had a cat from the factory. love to have 6" since it was so effective but have to drop to 5" . Really nice looking & well made too.

Make a Helmholtz resonator based on the noise freq. you want to eliminate and no more drone. You can find calculators online so you know what tubing and lenght you need to eliminate drone.

Don't use bleach. It will discolor aluminum parts is comes in contact with. Use baby powder. Works better than bleach without the harm.

Would have been nice to see the two dyno graphs side by side, with and without the resonator. I’m curious to know if most of the difference was at high rpm where max hp would be. If there’s not much difference under 2800 rpm, some guys that aren’t using their trucks competitively might not care enough to take them off

Right, but the pulls started around 2800 rpm. Many of us are driving trucks that rarely ever see 2800 and higher rpm. I’m curious how much difference it makes at lower rpm and on more stock-ish trucks. It’s great to see these results too.

@@jaredfreeman5562 This is a S476/87/090, this truck isn't going to get up on peak boost much below 2600rpm so you won't make over 200hp at low rpm when the turbo isn't on full boost, and at that point, the resonator will not be a concern. We would need a truck with closer to a stock turbo to test it at lower rpm.

It seems terribly obvious that the issue here is not "resonators" in general but rather that particular crazy bottleneck baffle from what looks like 8" diameter to maybe 2" diameter dude was using. That's less of a resonator more of a tube shaped chambered muffler. An appropriate length/diameter, to dissipate the sound frequency the owner finds an objectionable, of a simple fibreglass/steel wool/ceramic wool pack pipe would rob them of very little power and tune the sound.

Those are the most restrictive pieces of shit on the market. I had a 75/96 single on my lbz with a 4” fte and the second time I went wot it blew the muffler of along with the pipe that went over my axle. The difference it made when it shot off was night and day lol

I never understood resonators just get a quality muffler. My old diamond eye never droned. If thats too loud Donaldson has some badass mufflers. I didnt notice any real seat of the pants gains from the straight pipe. Mayne 25* or so.drop in egt

A poorly designed and necked down resonator will for sure. A straight through not necked down one should make no difference. It's not just the presence of a resonator, it's the resonator you choose.
