The thing is that every woman has a right to dress as she pleases .Her clothes are not an invitation to men.My problem with Indian cinema is not that they sensulize women but that fact that they portray women as nothing more than arm candy.

Rape has a lot of reason.
@milliepadmanabhan25409 жыл бұрын
Rape is occurring in India, because: 1. The culture itself is sexually repressed. I.E. Sex is a shameful thought and idea that is ingrained in us... As we move into such a modern ages, where the West is very open about sexuality, and we are exposed to this in media, internet, magazines, newspapers e.t.c. It creates a false idea about women and how we should look at them and treat them. At the end of the day, women appear as pretty objects on all these different forms of media, there is no personal/ relationship building quality that attaches our idea of women after we are exposed to these forms of media.. This is also being reflected in Bollywood culture and Modern Indian society. We need to start labeling women as real people with feelings, emotions and personalities rather than pretty objectified assets. 2. We all know this is a fact, from a young age we are taught that boys are more important and have more rights than women. The West is definitely more forward in thinking in this circumstance , as they have already gone through the period in time where women spoke up about inequality and they were allowed to start voting and have jobs e.t.c In India culturally, through Religion and societal values, women are supposed to be humble, quiet and 'submissive' in comparison to their male counterparts. They are supposed to be loving, gentle and 'womanly'. This idea has been so ingrained in us, that we start to treat women as 'weaker' and lesser because of their stereotypical roles in society. Again as we move into the modern age; we see how women are treated in the West and are being influenced and motivated by them. This has actually caused a lot of change in India, as people are starting to speak out and realize that women can do a lot more than just be humble and beautiful. India is in a great period of change as we grapple through our ingrained values, what we see in the West and deciding what is right. .

You have many great points but I don't disagree with some. "In india women are quite and submissive." Well how wrong u are. Ever heard of Rani Laxmi Bai?. Women are treated as god's in our nations. What nonsense is this? Women as treated as an object especially in west and that culture reflected in india pretty much. In india women were as important as men. And they were treated as god's,not as objects.Sp if u want to follow the culture of west then of course women will be treated as objects undoubtedly. Don't complain or whine about it. "What we see in west" shame on u. Do u even look at West? Exponential increased rate in cheating than india. Exponentially more divorce rates. More crime rates. That's what u want? Do u want to raise a child who sleeps around at the age of 16? Don't express your thoughts blindly without articulating it properly and without proper thinking.

The way women have been portrayed in Hindi movies has is appalling. I feel more than crying against patriarchy, the media should try to change our films and way women are portrayed there. Films and TV are a way to titillate. Change that and things will be better

... Banks, Railways, Defence, Sports, and Agriculture. These daughters of the Nation contribute immensely to the growth and development of the country. But we are ashamed of vulgarity in films, music, fashion, modelling, beauty pageants, etc. These have low social, cultural, educational, and developmental value. Majority of them are bad influence on society and culture. It's like alcohol and narcotics have bad effect on nervous system, liver, heart, lungs, behaviour, memory, learning ability.

Burkha Dutt should've done more resarch on the subject. She should've picked obscene & vulgar clips from films and played them on a screen and then asked audience and penalists: Are they proud or ashamed of these films? India is proud of Kalpana Chawla, Sunita Williams, Humpy Koneru, Dr. Kiran Bedi, Justice Anna Chandy, Justice Leila Seth, Sarojini Naidu, Vijayalakshmi Pandit, Sushma Swaraj, countless women working in IAS, IPS, Legal Services, Education, Medicine, Science, Engg, Journalism, ...
@rose4soni11 жыл бұрын
Priyanka is not a politician/scientist/engineer/sportsman/farmer/ whatever else is on your list that qualifies for being proud. She is an actress, in the entertainment industry, & she is doing what she can within her limits. She is a top actress, many people watch her movies & at least as someone who gets noticed is speaking up about & against the issue. She never played roles in movies that show women as weak or helpless instead career-driven, strong spirited, nurturing, sensual characters.

Cause of vugarity in Indian films is that a lot of underworld money and people are involved in production. Indian state and society is terrible in sports, in litrature, in education, in health-care, in employment, in justice, in governance, in ethos and on so many social, political and economic indexes. We've become corrupt. We are not proud, but egoist, arrogant, and ignorant. We've lost the sense of respect for ourself and each other. And you are defending 'beedi jalai le'. Shame on you folks.

@rajesinha8 жыл бұрын
patriarchy is the bridge we have walked on as we have evolved. so don't call it unfortunate. many a battle has been fought to protect the honour of women. today when we put on our TVs we men are subjected to titillation. whether it is songs, movies or serials, it is difficult to see them in a family. little boys are subjected to such titillation even before they know the meaning of the word. in a society (beyond the metros) where even falling in love is a social crime, even love stories are a titillation, you show only raunchy songs and regressive portraits of women. adolescents grow up with an idea of love and sex, so not real to our country. you give rise to frustration. the frustration is behind this crime. and the argument that people want to see them and we should be judicious and censor our children doesn't work here. we are not so mature and thoughtful as a society.
@rose4soni11 жыл бұрын
Do you think vulgarity exists only in movies? What about men who always use abuses when they speak to each other or complaining about anything that frustrates them - cricket, their boss, their wife, their kids, their gf, expenses, rising prices. What about men who watch videos that are far more vulgar than you would ever see in movies? What about men who try to touch women in markets/on the street/in college/in clubs/ stare down women's clothing in buses/trains? ..continued
@phoenixj12993 жыл бұрын
"what about men who watch vulgar videos" yeah...the same vulgar videos that women would gladly partake in when they are given certain money. It's not men who get raped. It's women. "What about men who try to touch women in markets?" With movies like these what do u expect? Their minds get polluted with such bollywood movies. So women can do anything but men shouldn't act upon their hormones? Do u see the baseless argument? Respect is two way virtue . If women don't care about respect and expose their body then obviously men would see women as objects. Don't ask respect. Make it deserved through actions .

Priyanka is 100% correct. Shabana is valid too, however, this is a new generation. Out with the old way of thinking and in with the NEW. I respect Shabana for roles like 'Fire', I really do, however, it comes down to choices. It's HER 'choice' and and SHE must be empowered and just because she dances or wears a certain type of clothing does not mean that she is wanting to be 'attacked'
