I wonder if the sizes of bolts, crank, headset etc are still made or common. As I bought a 1995 track bike and for love or money I couldn't get bolts or the strange headset bearings sizes and nuts. Even with my new purchase of an older specialised globe roll 1 in the UK, I found it hard to get 9mm nuts for the wheels and that bike is only a decade old. I went to every bike shop in my city, plumbers merchants and a company called Screwfix who literally say they stock everything. Ended up buying them online 3 nuts then I found my 9mm cups also need replacing on the rear so the search continues. It's fun having retro bikes but don't expect to go to your local bike shop to get parts .

Have you ever tried the specialised globe? I just bought a globe roll 1 second-hand in the UK. I wish we had the choice of second-hand bikes like the USA but sadly we don't. I found it to be a great bike that I have upgraded with better rims second hand and I added new bearings, tires, chain and Latex tubes. All for around 250 pounds. Been doing around 30 miles daily in it as I'm training myself back up. Instead of riding my geared bike which is not getting me as fit. I would like to see you buying a cheap bike and adding a few bits to make it a good bike. Which I hope I have done with I'm silent running dream machine :)

The frame is amaxing, the blue grips and saddle don't really match the blue of the frame and I think black or white ones would've been a better choice, esthetically. Still an amazin build, though.

From what I see FG bikes haven't evolved much - that said, nowadays frame is made in different process but it is rather a way to cut costs and produce frame faster, more precisely aligned. That's great for sure but is it incremental or cardinal change?
@crabbostabbo2782 жыл бұрын
I think that the main changes would have to be the flat bars over normal road bars, and the wider tires, IMO fixed would take a lot of advantages from tyre liners and running something similar to tubeless, cose apart from that, pressfit bbs and disk brakes dont seem really usefull to them, whay any other tech would fixed gain from?

@@crabbostabbo278 Belt instead of chain?Belt and sealed bearings all around without any transmission would make weatherproof bicycle.
@crabbostabbo2782 жыл бұрын
@Bebo i thought that was why roadies used inliners, also, i ment on thick boy tires, like the fixies ur seeing nowadays with almost gravel like tires
@event42162 жыл бұрын
@Bebo Belt drive has no metal-on-metal feeling and is silent. Probably that produces sensation of sponginess as response is different. But speed definitely is there. Hybrid bikes are heavier and their 8sp gear hubs are running packed with grease, and often cones are adjusted too tight. Even my heavy rather-touring-than hybrid beltie accelerates like demon. And there's huge difference running stock gear hub full with grease and cleaned-and-refgreased one. Belt isn't elongating like chain and doesn't require care after each ride. Even if true race FGs can feel or be faster - in daily use belt FG could be quite practical. Most cyclists have 1+ bikes, no problem to have one with chain for fair weather....

Fixed gear frames are really basic. Depending on the tubing, materials used to create it. However, the only things you need are innovative products. From spokes, nipples, crankset, chain, chain-ring, hubs, rims, tyres, pedals, cages, straps, seatpost, seatpost clamp, stem, handlebars, and even handlebar grip. All this matters when you are building your fixed gear bike.

I'd rather have perfect dimestack welds than something that has been ground smooth. Particularly with aluminum, dimestacks are the mark of a true artisan master welder. Any half-competent schlub can take a grinder to an ugly weld.

Here and pretty much anywhere else,fixies are NOTHING SPECIAL! It takes a bunch of, bored in the life, don't know how to stand out, millennials,or newer generation,to make a big deal,or start a "trend" out of something so simple,as a fixed gear bike!! Only trouble is, drag racing car designs prove you're wrong. The better straight line sprint drag racing cars get, the longer the wheelbase becomes and the more jacked up the rear end and the skinnier the front wheels. Your bicycle is designed for tighter cornering NOT sprints. Sprints require longer wheelbase. We know this cause we have drag racing cars. Zach, WAKE-UP from your isolated life and realize we've seen American Drag racing car design.

Have you seen a Velodrome? You sprint in a banked oval track
@retardno0022 жыл бұрын
@@Meccanico208 track bikes don't have aggressive geo because it provides better acceleration but because of the 1v1 sprints and track stand events. There you need to zip up and down the banking to trick your opponent into opening a good line for your sprint, so it is about deception and timing. Some of the best accelerating bicycles out there are race BMX bikes and those have a long rear triangle specifically for fast out of the gate sprinting, since the jousting phase doesn't exist outside velodrome racing.

yeah evolve to a geared bike with brakes honestly. I used to like fixed/single speed but for anything other than a flat town(like mine) shopping bike it's just inferior. Doesn't matter if it's hub gears 2x or 1x. ANYTHING beats a fixie or SS
@Joser1672 жыл бұрын
@Bebo "Weak rider" No. After a while your body starts to give out. I was a bike messenger riding fixed gear for a decade and when i switched to gears it made my job easier. The misconception is that gear bikes riders are weak, and fixed gear riders are strong is wrong. Gear bikes prevent you from exerting yourself while fixed gear doesn't. So for you to say that someone is a weak rider is wrong because eventually your body will give out. You need to be a smart rider, not a strong rider. Not sure while fixed gear riders have the need to bad mouth gear bike riders. Perhaps it's a ego thing, but it comes off a arrogant and pretentious.
@Joser1672 жыл бұрын
@Bebo Why are you so defensive? The amout of bikes don't mean anything to me, nor your ability. Only fools like yourself quantify that as some sort of one up on a rider. You are shame to the cycling community. I obviously touched a nerve for you to react that way. Take a deep breath, kid. There are levels to cycling that you know nothing about.
