Do you ride clipless or flat pedals? Let us know down below! 👇

Flat, I like them more, but I don't know if I'm actually faster with them.

Both

clipless eggbeaters on one bike & candy 3's on other flats have their advantages and disadvantages and so do clipless but riding clipless with a big old platform kinda defeats the purpose of a clipless pedal

To feel the benefits of both sides I am planning to put the magnetic pedals. 🤟🏻Magped.

Neither! Hustle Avery Remtech (magnetic), all the way! After years of both clip and clip-less, these are the best of both worlds for E-MTB’s. Appreciate the effort comparing the old technology but gotta get with the times…this video sounds like someone debating fax machines vs. morse code. :)

I thought I try flats when I got my ebike... they are confidence inspiring when the trail gets rough. But when I slammed the flat pedal into my shin in a rock garden I went back to clips. I also noticed that the clips allowed me to spin at very high cadence on XC rides. Like Chris said... it really depends on where you ride.
@janeblogs3242 жыл бұрын
Ah I'd never considered the high cadence situations

Similar problem! I like the ability to step off flats, but damn, they rip your legs to bits when you slip off!! Persevering with clips now!

I ride big mt enduro most of the time I grew up in clips but switched when I got tbe EMBT and moved to the mountains. It was a hard transition. I raced enduro this yr and everyone used clips but me and I was almost always LAST! I just bought some clips and although the confidence is not there yet I clear the hard sections much better with a bit of anxiety. Imo more time will equal more confidence and more speed with the occasional awkward tip over.

I am not a clipless fan for many different reasons. That said, the miniscule advantages of clipless are multiplied on a torque sensing e-bike.

I made the switch to flats about two years ago but then started getting really bad knee pain. Talked to my physical therapist who is also completive cyclist and she told me to go back to clips. I did and my knees have felt the difference with no more pain. Only issue is I do end up down on the ground more often with the clips.

I always thought there was an entry requirement in order to use clipless pedals. No less than 85% of your attire had to be spandex before you were allowed to use them.
@downhill642 жыл бұрын
Ha ha classic, you're forgotten the 100 percent ego requirement. 😆

I was thinking of getting some magnetic pedals as a half way house. Can you do a follow up with a few of the different types of magnetic pedals and compare them to this test?

It’s about time someone debated this issue.

Raced MX at national level, just cannot imagine being clipped in when racing MX so ride flats on all my mtb bike, DH, enduro and ebikes, but if I was racing down hill and competitive and every second counts I would learn how to use clipins

Clips are better for cross country but flats are better for all mountain and winter use.

Clipleess for the spring/summer/ fall weather but flats in the winter.

I spent years riding clipped in. Been riding flats for last few years. Definitely find flats more playful and quicker on techy trails with them. Noticed I'm slightly slower on power climbs, but it all averages out.
@fundidoarrojo2696 күн бұрын
I used clipless for two years, until I fall like in 07:57 but on rough concrete destroying my knee. After that I went back to flats and never looked back. To be honest I never got any objective benefit from being clipped in, so it was an easy decision.
@andrewgreenwood87272 жыл бұрын
Always flat pedals I use Hope Flat pedals super grippy & great in all conditions, I can see in some situations clipped in could be an advantage but I think for myself would be to sketchy especially in the wet & muddy conditions.

Enjoyed the video, and the skills. But question remains, I like to ride bridle paths and the like. So which pedal is better?
@embn2 жыл бұрын
Hey Bob, it all depends on your preferred riding styles! If you're on bridleways and stopping lots/walking around then flats might be the better option for this, but if you're mile munching then clips could be the better option!
@perryirons13992 жыл бұрын
I've done both. It's flats now only for me. Too many times falling over because I couldn't get out of clipless fast enough. Survival is more important than speed.

I have found Shimano SPD's pretty quick to snap out of, especially if you wind the tension right off!

I ride enduro ebikes and DH bikes. For enduro I ride with flats, because in a race I never know if I will need to dab a foot out at the last moment. On the other hand, in DH races I ride clipless because on the jumps I need to be as one with my bike.

I look at it from the perspective of which pedal will I get injured more. I will stick with flats. I like my knees and ankles the way they are.
@nomad-pq4yw8iy7v2 жыл бұрын
but wait there is the whole shoe thing and I'm not talking about clipless vs verses one for flats. I mean things like the Shimano ME7 that work pretty good off the bike and other that are like a fish out of water off bike but transfer max power on the bike.

I ride clipless, for my style of riding i ride 200% more fast with it and who much faster u go less u crash 😅

Learn on flats. Then, go faster on clipless once you’ve learnt the basic skills (position, bunny hops, berms, simple table tops, drops). Then… back to flats for added fun. Or… clipless to beat your best times. Simple.
@embn2 жыл бұрын
That's a great way of doing it! We'd always suggest learning basics with flats to really master your technique. 👍

Hello everyone!!! I ride flats,cliped in kinda scares me but I just saw a new type of pedal from a company in bc Canada called magped...They manufacture flats with magnets in them and you bolt on a metal plate to your clipless shoes check them out their getting great reviews...

You could be like Hans Rey, he rides with one clip and one flat at same time.

Clipless 100%

An over the bars off with a clip, that in the moment didn’t disconnect resulting in dragging a bike though the air, a hard smack into the ground and cracked ribs and it was flats from that moment forward. I’ll take the loss of speed as a trade off. Riding tricky trails, I like the option to put a foot down if I need to.
@MYMOUNTAIN_1222 жыл бұрын
It's about personal preference really, nothing to do with skill level, and yes I ride both flats and clips, I prefer the flats for mtb/emtb, and clips for road.

on the road clipless rules hands down
@Cheapsh0t2472 жыл бұрын
SPDs were an awesome when we had short or zero travel for keeping our feet on the pedals in the 90s. Suspension, flat pedals, bike specific shoes have massively improved so SPDs not so necessary these days for most bikes. For Hardtails or XC/short travel mountain bikes clips will probably be better but for the majority of new riders even for these bikes and especially for larger travel bikes i expect that flats would suit most people.

@embn2 жыл бұрын
It's a hard one to answer because it comes down to personal preference. If you love jumping, then flats may be the option for you. However, if you love pedalling and pure speed, clips should be the best option for you. 👍

I'm not against ABS, its a Choice. The Fact that no-one is actually talking about is, ABS is Detrimental to Braking Distance, whilst adding a Loss of control whilest Skidding.
