Mower Or Snowblower Won't Start? THIS IS PROBABLY WHY!
We go over the best fuel treatments and what you should be using to begin with in your small engine
Carbureted engines require a good supply of fuel and have to be versatile and able to handle moisture, especially in regions with major temperature changes happen quick and condensation forms.
This causes reactions with the metals of the carburetor to form gum or varnish inside the carburetor bowl
Condensation that is formed inside a partially empty fuel tank on a machine or sitting on the floor in your garage will always gather at the bottom and may only cause you issues once you get to that portion of the fuel even if fresh fuel is added
Phase separation of ethanol blended pump fuels happens sometimes soon as 30-60 days from when it is bought at the pump (depends on the additives)
Fuel separates out along with an alcohol/water/methanol mix from this condensation and gathers at the bottom of the tank/container
This fuel blends in a fuel injected engine and burns off fine (mostly) in most cases but in a carbureted system it does not work like that.
We test fuel treatment and additives Phaser 3000, Formula X 2 and K 100
We use phase separated fuel from prior equipment to test the ability of these treatments to reverse this separation and let the water form back in
This video shows you if these treatments remove and fix water or separated ethanol from gas with a fuel treatment / additive
Even larger, fuel injected equipment or vehicles can become victim to these bad gas issues.
We do these tests and see which treatments work and which do not hold up and use food coloring to show water separation and test run fuel solution
Which ones will work?
We do a full fuel test on these different treatments and show what it takes with different phase separated and ethanol free fuels how they do to reverse the phase separation as they claim to.
Use the results to come to your own conclusion!
You can purchase Phaser 3000 at amzn.to/3SdgEfx
You can purchase K-100 at amzn.to/3U8veb1
You can purchase Formula X-2 at amzn.to/3Obbboj
Ethanol free fuel is the best thing to run in any small engine and I would never recommend anything other than this
We recommend Aspen fuel for canned fuel
2-Butoxyethanol is used in many household products including Windex and other solvents.
I found a 55 gallon drum for under $1,100 online (plus shipping) (probably double what wholesale is) ( amzn.to/3UfnZ14 )
It is starting to sound like even the treatments that work to combat water in the fuel are just cheap solvents that are marketed to perform a reversal that the cheap solvent could do itself?
Use ethanol free treated fuel with something that combats the water or a canned fuel for best results.
We have used Phaser 3000 for quite a few years and haven't seen fuel/equipment come back we have put our ethanol free fuel and treatment in.
We get ethanol free fuel from standalone pumps locally and it is clear, good fuel.

Only three things bring me joy anymore in life. 1.- When the wife says she’s feeling frisky. 2.- When the pizza oven goes off. 3.- Notification that Individualized Repair has a new video!

Personal experience : The best way to PREVENT small engine carburetor problem is to install a fuel shut off valve AND USE IT ! Specifically, do NOT USE THE ON/OFF SWITCH !! Run the carburetor dry every time. I put a shut off valve on my Toro CCR 2500 a couple of years ago. Even with year old E10 fuel, it started on the second pull this winter.

I see people use this method and have no issues for years! When it is ran out there will still be some left in the bottom of the carburetor bowl. Over time this will leave deposits as it evaporates but usually takes much longer than leaving the carburetor full. Thanks for the tip!

@@IndRepair - I think the real bonus of running the carb dry is it is highly unlikely that there will be any residue in the primary/pilot jet or the main jet and emulsion tube.

Yes! Varnish/gum in the bottom take a long time to break free and close the jets

i wonder what the results would be if subjected to the mixing you would get from a mower gas tank bouncing around the yard, that amount of mixing may put it back into so;uution, i may put a jar of sample fuel in my cup holder and mow the lawn and see if it goes back into suspension. it seems by the results of your tests its a lot cheaper to put new gas in and use the contaminated for other purposes thanks for your videos

Yeah, it does have a lot of bouncing so it could possibly work if you start it on fluid. Good thought!

Extensive report; As an avid user of Stabil, I'd still like to see why it didn't do well and how is it that it's market share is so strong if it's that bad? Not disagreeing-just asking. Thanks

I understand completely! They have a large market share because large corporations push their products and spend a lot on advertising and promotion. Stabil in my honest opinion does not do anything other than color the water and throw and oil layer over everything in the tank (or some other lubricant). It does seem to keep the gaskets/rubbers less brittle like the rest of these products. All of these are really a marketing ploy to get us to waste our money. With the video and showing the main ingredients the products above seem to be also. You can buy a 55 gallon drum of 2-butoxyethanol (the main ingredient in these products) for less than $1,500 delivered. Seems a cost of less than $30/gallon for materials (without packaging or additives but at a retail cost). This becomes $280 retail per gallon after bottled and shipped. I am in the wrong business. Haha! I would think the margins on the Sta-Bil and most other whole goods that are marketed come at a comparatively great margin also
