It only becomes an issue when you generalise and say that all people looking in a certain way (whether it's height, hair, skin etc.) are ugly or unattractive just because of said characteristics. What's important is to undrestand that we all think differently and should be accepting of that as long as we accept the other person's preferences too. Also about what you were saying about the skin, why does it matter that it would hurt you? Would it not hurt you equally that you are rejected for your height, looks, clothing, accent, disabilities, hygiene, style etc? There's lots of things that would make you feel sad if you were rejected by potential partners based solely on one (or a few) of these things.

Women are hypergamous so they will always go for the guy who look like he's out of their league. You will rarely see an average looking girl curving a tall guy with a nice athletic body unless he has a very bad behavior, it doesn't matter what her type is, because she knows he can easily find better than her. Even when you see a cute one with an ugly guy he still has something that is out of her league (money, clout, social status, whatever...) When a guy has a type, you will notice that most of his past girlfriends look the same. It is less the case with women.
