Amy, the nerve damage may not be as bad as you think! I had major surgery on my neck 2.5 years ago, and I'm just now starting to get feeling back in my numb area.

Only just found your comment… I’ve had surgery on both my hips in June 2017 + 2018 and have temporary nerve paralysis four and a half years post op. I can’t feel from my hip to halfway down my thigh in my right leg, and from my hip down to my kneecap in my left hip. It’s a bizarre sensation.

Amy, don’t worry that much about the numbness. It can take a full year to recover if not more. I had major double jaw surgery (break and reset my entire face basically) 14 months ago and have now permanent numbness on my lip and chin (bad site for numbness you get food stuck there and don’t know it, or bite my lip and not feel it etc..) but I’m used to it now. Have similar thing on my back and hand due to surgery but these areas seem to improve more than the face. What I’m saying, just give it time and be patient, I know it sucks but please stay patient and try not to think about it, almost everyone who’s less than 2 months post op like you will be having numbness so it is SO EARLY to call this permanent. You’re amazing, sending you love and support❤️

If possible take vitamin C. I was diagnosed with a chronic illness/ pain condition called complex regional pain syndrome that effects nerves/ nervous system. It typically starts after surgery, injury etc. vitamin C is known for potentially stopping CRPS from developing. Sending lots of love and prayers your way. You are such an inspiration to myself and so many others! 💗💗💗

When I had my hip surgery they said that the pudendal nerve is able to be damaged because of the post they have to put between your legs to distract the hip joint. I know yours was a long surgery so I would think the damage would just take longer to heal. I wouldn't give up hope! I had nerve damage where my femoral nerve stopped working for 1 year after my knee surgery but it final came back. I couldn't even move my leg for almost a year because one of the quad muscles completely died and had no nerve innervation. It eventually came back so keep hoping and waiting!!

Sending hugs Amy 💐💐 hopefully the nerve damage will heal over time. I had a c-section 7 years ago and still have areas that have no feeling, but most other areas slowly healed and are now almost normal. I’ve also had other injuries where the nerves were damaged and again, over a few years, the damage healed/settled. Thank you for sharing another vid with us 💐💐

Hi honey . I’ve had multiple surgeries and after many of them nerves were bruised / damaged . It can take weeks / months and even years for nerves to settle after being messed with . Don’t give up hope just let the body heal and I have a feeling all will be ok and you will get feeling back . I’m here if you want to talk about it . Danny in Leeds ( U.K.)

I’m trans and I’ve had top surgery with two revisions, which basically wrecks the nerves on your chest. it’s been years since my last surgery and I’m still regaining sensation slowly but surely! I don’t expect it to come back completely but you’d be surprised how resilient nerves can be. I don’t have EDS but I do have a nonspecific HDCT.

I had nerve damage when I had my left kidney removed in 2002 and although it's still slightly numb in the area, it improved a lot over the years. Nerves are great at recovering, even when they've been cut through or damaged. I can't say that you'll regain all of the feeling you had before but I know that for me, I did gain back quite a lot of feeling and I never thought I would. Huge love. Xx

Hi Amy! Sorry to hear about your numbness, I really hope it gets better. In your video, when you showed that rash type thing I couldn't believe it, because literally life one week ago I had that in the exact same spot on my chest (I have eczema) and I use this red cream that can be found in Australia (that's where I live too) at any chemist. It's called Elecon and it has helped clear up my eczema so much I literally use it for like 3 days then it's gone, I highly recommend it! Ps I also use this moisturiser that's found at chemists and it's in a blue and white tube called la Roche pose or something like that, it's a moisturiser for eczema and other skin conditions, so I use that first then the Elecon, and they work great together!

I know this pales in comparison to your surgery but I just had surgery on my shoulder 3 months ago and started having nerve pain all the way down to my wrist. I was told that I might have nerve damage as well. I don’t fully know your illness and I myself don’t have it, but I know that as I keep working through physical therapy (and believe me there’s days I come home and cry after) it does seem to be getting better. Not saying that’s a cure all. Nerves are a funny thing. They have a mind of their own! Don’t give up hope. I know easier said than done! Also I tried to go vote and it wouldn’t let me 😭😭 But for what it’s worth you’re a winner to all of your fans no matter what! Much love from the USA! 💕

I had “permanent” nerve damage after oral surgery. Half my bottom lip was numb, which made for some embarrassing moments, as I couldn’t feel any food there, so drips and dribbles and glops of food went unnoticed...until someone else saw them, of course! 🤣 Very gradually, the nerves repaired themselves, and now six years later, it’s 90% healed and no more embarrassing moments! 😀💪🏽👍🏼 Let’s hope the same for you, Amy! Nerves have amazing self-repair skills!

My fiance has permanent nerve damage to his inguinal femoral nerve from having a hernia mesh implant and then having to have it removed. He has currently gone through 2 procedures to try and fix it but its only caused worse issues and our next step is to get a spinal implant that stimulates that nerve cluster to keep the pain manageable. I will keep you in thought and prayer as you continue on your journey. I love watching your videos!

I’m sorry you are experiencing nerve damage from your surgery. I had my gallbladder out and that surgery though not really as invasive did leave my belly button numb right below it. It’s odd, but not as big of a deal as where you lost feeling. Hopefully your nerves may repair themselves and you can regain feeling there. Sending lots of healing your way.

Nerve damage isnt fun, but its not horrible either.. I had jaw surgery about 22yrs ago, and was numb for 6 months after from ear to ear...but almost 2 years ago had to have some screws removed by my nose, and I'm still numb on like a quarter worth of my upper lip. If anything, it just feels really weird. As for tape or adhesive, I get a similar type reaction where it looks like the sore you have, but basically anywhere I put a band aid. I just got a sample pack of whats called 'HY-Tape" its made for really sensitive skin, and for people who have the same type of patches you have for your tubes.

It has now been scientifically proven that nerves can regenerate and heal. My shoulder was out of socket for almost 5 years straight and I always had a degree of damage and over the fall it got significantly worse. I had been told to fuse when I was 15 but put it off until I was nearly 20 because I had learned to live around. Fusion is a limb salvage, last ditch effort surgery. My nerve issues got significantly better post op since I acted quickly before when I noticed things are getting worse.

Nerve damage cannot be classed as permanent before six months, most doctors won't Diagnose it until 1.5 years afterwards. Nerves take time to heal. It's still super fresh, so please try not to worry too much that it'll be permanent just yet. 😊

I get all different kinds of rash reactions like that as does my daughter, we are not diagnosed though with anything other than 'IBS' despite trying to get answers and doctors observing 'concerning' symptoms and significant pain. I know I have to be really careful about what I put on my skin esp sticky things as they will often just pull off my skin leaving a weeping mess. I reacted to the rear defenders I had to wear for an MRI and I'm told it's not possible to react to something like that. My daughter just had a reaction to her Fitbit, weeping sores. I never thought these were ' things' my mum always had to be careful what plasters she used on me as a kid, they'd stick them on us at school of we fell then my mum would try and get it off because it's react and it would pull skin off!

Amy, how do you come to terms with ‘accepting’ your condition for what it is and what may come of it? Perhaps ‘peace’ would be the better term. I’ve been sick for half my life already and my disease has made a major decline in the last few years. So much so that the threat of going on long term disability is creeping up. I knew the prognosis and I knew that eventually I may not be able to work anymore but it is just a sour thing to accept. Especially at such a young age. My life has just begun.

Apparently, I found out during my nerve conduction study tests things, that nerves grow 1mm per day. in your legs. So, nerve damage is not always permanent! Just may take a longggg time to get them back. I have nerve damage in both legs and feet, lower legs and feet are mostly numb, it's very weird altho kinda used to it now. Try not to worry too much. Ask if you could have a nerve conduction test, they will be able to tell you more! Chin up girl. You're doing so well

It takes months to know how much damage you’ll be left with. I’ve had two major surgeries that left me with permanent nerve damage and I was told it can take up to 2yrs to know where you stand. The numbness may feel very weird at the moment but you get used to it. My leg is numb from an accident I had at 10 (36 years ago). The nerves do grow a couple of mm a year so you will find that the numb patch will decrease gradually. Is the numbness just on the surface skin receptors or deep? You stick a needle in until you can feel it (Doctor did that to me). If it is the skin only it may improve quicker

Next time you have surgery, make them use a silicone based dressing like mepitel or mepilex. I use them all the time on patients with very fragile skin and I’ve never ripped it.

I get that reaction on my face, back, arms and chest from antibiotics. I have M.E and if I need antibiotics I have to go into hospital for them as none as "safe" as I have the rash and slow delayed allergic reaction. Love your vlogs you give me so much strength and hope ❤️xx

Amy you could be a bioqueen! Idk how popular they are in your neck of the woods but I know a lot of clubs in my area are super accepting of woman drag queens! If you're serious you could totally look into it!
