From experience, the whole not majoring in finance thing is applicable to only Ivy League schools or schools of a similar caliber. If you are from a non-target/semi-target, major in finance because you are already at a disadvantage and - especially at semi-targets - all the OCR that goes on typically is restricted to students in their institution’s undergrad business school.

i actually had a networking call a few months ago with a banker who majored in history and philosophy, and ironically it was one of the best calls i had. i think people often think theres only one path to banking, but those people with different backgrounds actually bring a lot of new ideas and concepts to the table

Bryan thanks! Anything will help. I’m trying to see what to do for going into asset management. Idk if I should go through the “traditional” path of going to the sell side first then the buy side.. or just develop the skill sets now for asset management and go straight into it.

Hey Bryan! Really loving all your content so far! I just wanted to ask what you think the prospects of investment banking will be like 2-3 years down the road given the current condition of the economy due to covid-19. Will it still be a viable industry then?

That's a great question - this is an old industry for sure. I do think that so much of what happens in IB is relationship based, they'll have to change ways of meeting with people / client facing work etc to adapt to the changing conditions of face to face interactions

They are for sure what can differentiate you from others, but high level banks still care about a top school degree, or at least that’s what I’ve heard from many bankers, since I’m actually in this situation, as an Econ student

@@Mr.Pincini I'm a first-year student at Bocconi University and I know quite well about it. But what I learn this year is that if you want to work in this field, especially at the beginning of your career (for example Internship) you have to prove your passion for the firm and the division you are applying for. Anyway I agree with what you said!

I think double majors are good for anywhere, but make sure you can keep up your GPA!

What's the deciding factor when choosing between climbing the corporate ladder and working at smaller companies where you can have more say in decision-making?

I haven't had to make that decision yet but probably a function of risk (primarily) with stability that comes with a bigger corporate vs. the ability to make bigger decisions (like you said) at an earlier age with smaller companies / startups

Unfortunately, it isn’t the best. However, that shouldn’t deter you. From what I’ve heard, the Aggie network is relatively strong and helpful, so networking will be vital in your case. Also, take advantage of the Aggie’s in Wall Street program.

I just sold a property in Portland and I'm thinking to put the cash in stocks, I know everyone is saying its ripe enough, but Is this a good time to buy stocks? How long until a full recovery? How are other people in the same market raking in over $450k gains within months, I'm really just confused at this point.

A lot of folks downplay the role of advisors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. She's helped grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from $275k to $850k.
