Another good tip, If you find yourself falling backward on your butt/back, it's wise to tuck your chin toward your chest. It'll help you from smacking your head, helmet or not! Learned this in martial arts, and it saved me a couple of times.

Learning how to fall has so many applications too. I was diagnosed with a seizure disorder when I was 11, prior to that I was Roller skating almost before I could walk. I had learned how to take a fall during Roller skating lessons, so later when I had seizures and had warning, I could just roll into the fall. Recently I have wanted to take up skating again (as leisurely skating is a low impact way to stay fit), since I had brain surgery and no longer have seizures. I'm 45 so, this safety first video and other videos of yours have been a real boost to my confidence, and brought back to me all I learned in that skating class when I was a kid. Knee and Elbow pads are on my shopping list while I wait for my skates to arrive. I already have a helmet. 😉😉☺☺

I confess I needed convincing to get a helmet, because I thought I would find it annoying to wear... Turns out, it isn't annoying at all 😂 and I feel a lot safer. I skate on the streets, so I'm not just wearing my gear to protect me from falling, but also from, well, traffic.

I got rollerskates for my birthday last year and made the mistake of not wearing my wrist guards when I tried them out for the first time, I fell and damaged my wrist so I had to wear a brace for a couple of weeks. It scared me into not rollerskating again cause I thought I had broken my thumb, but this is encouraging me to try again and that falling doesn't have to be scary!

another hack I have is to stretchhhhhhhhh! always stretch and warm up when doing any activities! falling when your muscles are cold vs warmed up muscles are totally different pains. also when you're warmed up and done some stretches, you are more limber and flexible. making you less prone to falling and being able to quickly gain balance when you lose them.

YesYes get the gear. Listen to Dasia🙂 It protects you more than you know and it gives you confidence to skate and learn tricks. I've read so many comments about broken and bruised. You have plenty of time to look cuter later. Right now focus on you and safety. Believe me I have all the gear head to butt😁, it really does help. Dasia i have never seen those thigh pad things before. Thats one piece of gear i didn't know existed. Interesting. I learned to fall but no matter how close i make sure i get low to the ground, i seem to still take slight damage on my wrists. so i now skate with wrists guards, and no i don't seem to hurt anything. so this is awesome! I personally have done fine with wearing baggy jeans or tracksuit pants with a thick jumper and hand warmers, it doesn’t make the impacts better but I have kept my skin on. Definitely invest in safety gear, it will make you so much more confident skating. It took my so long to figure everything out when I was terrified of falling but with some knee and elbow pads you will mostly avoid serious injuries. Also wear a helmet, I have hit my head so many times on the concrete and I think I have done damage so always wear a helmet unless your planning on skating on the grass
