Why so many people think they can’t hear from God because they think He will audibly speak to them. Then they are discouraged when it doesn’t happen. God speaks to us through His word. He use to walk with us in the garden. Then He spoke to us through the prophets and through His son Jesus Christ. Now He speaks to us through His final word The Bible.

If you live each day according to the revealed will of God in scripture, you will automatically accomplish the hidden will of God, because instead of searching for it, you'll be living it. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. Galatians 5:16 Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

This is incredibly fucking confusing to me. For example dating women. You cannot tell me that there’s freedom in sitting around waiting for God to deliver you a godly woman. You have to go out there and date you have to see what kind of women are out there. Then when you start doing that, as a man most men want to date multiple women until they settle down and get into a serious relationship. That is a desire that will never go away. We also have desires to be in certain careers or have certain jobs. With this passage it seems like you will never get what you want. Why do we have desires in the first place? Who even gives us those desires? How do you know if it’s God’s desire or your own? What is the difference between the two?

I leave it to God to choose the method of communication He will use per the situation. I believe God can speak to us through intuition or "gut feeling" I also believe He can run a sentence through our minds. Not necessarily a booming voice. But a sentence in answer to a question or request offered to Him. I think the key is to find a quiet place, ask God what you need, and then shut up and clear your mind completely. Have your mind as an open vessel just waiting for God's words to fill it.

I wish that Pastor John had also added that the questioner , after following all of the above advice, should relinquish the person's freedom of choice to God's sovereignty, because, after all, God has in special cases asked certain individuals to make choices that seemed unwise to their righteous peers, and would even sometimes seem out of character, or counter scriptural. The story of Hosea comes to mind. At the end of the day, the questioner has done his part in offering wisdom to his friend through counsel by following Pastor John's advice, but if the Lord has indeed spoken to the friend, then let God be true and every man a liar.

In the end, it's a matter of doing Gods will. If you put God's will first, then His will, will become your will. Christ says “Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. God's will is already destined. All things will work towards Gods ultimate purpose. It's our decision to submit to His will and make it ours as well. Proverbs 19:21 Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. The question to ask yourself, in whatever you do, in the choice of job you take... Is it not contradicting the path of His will? Are you working in a way that doesn't cause hurt to another, or being non deceitful in your job. Is the role you take at work truthful and not mischievous in order for you to get ahead of another? Does the job you take still give you an opportunity to share the Gospel to others? I believe the job we chose to labor in doesn't go against God as long as we can remain righteous in our path. I try and look at it this way... Is whatever I do for work give me an the opportunity to be as righteous as I can be? Because if I feel I need to lie, talk bad under my breath about others at work, have jealousy towards someone else's role in the job, then I need to look at another job where these temptations wont overpower me if I am weak and easily prone to stumble. Hope this helps.🙏

God is love... following love is enough. But apart from all these theological and rational principles, the real problem is that a myriad of people around us see, feel, or intepret LOVE only according to what they received as a human being in early stage of life. For many of us, the image of love is not what God originally designed. And this distorted love has already been stucked in our subconcious tanaciously, holding us back to rely on religion and other deeds in a way to sustain this feeling of love. As pastor John said, making precise decision is not God’s interest i believe. Follow your god-given heart and get advices from people you trust to make decisions, then God will be there always. Edit: unlike loves we may have experienced, God’s love is different. Hope someday we all FEEL his “unconditional” love in every second of our life.

GHOSTING IS FOR COWARDS and what do you think Jesus meant by “righteousness?” I believe that is love. Knowing, accepting, and feeling that you are the most precious being in the world by heart is what God really wants to show thru all his works in this broken world. And the more we grasp and feel his love, the deeper we can embrace freedom to love God and to love people. He showed us love first. He wants us to know it first, apart from all the fear.

GHOSTING IS FOR COWARDS Yes i see your point.. And you seem upset with people who you think are against the bible..? I agree with you. People are not standing upright and should take lots of blames. But You also know Jesus still loves them..? and they always have second chances as we all do when we sin, because they are also the most precious beings in God’s eyes. They going to hell or heaven? Not my business. This is how i see Love of God. I believe that God wants us to know, accept and feel his love FIRST and to know that we are always precious innately cuz its true. The more we know this love, the more we can regard ourselves precious properly and love others properly or do his will as you mentioned. As you said, we live in the world where the love was broken into pieces; we have only experienced some of its pieces.

GHOSTING IS FOR COWARDS oh i see that you strongly follow God’s way. But still come on. I have been talking about love and what i believe about God’s love and you call me heretic? Too harsh brother haha. I believe and accept all the verses you wrote. Yes we have to be careful not to fall into those false and crooked faith and we sometimes have to guide or rebuke(heedfully) fellow brothers and sisters. But you know, gotta think about who was getting the epistles and who wrote them cuz they reflect personality of writers and social values and current situations at that time. Not that they don’t fit in today, but rather we have to see love for brothers and sisters underneath those verses, love that we hope them to stay in solid ground. Hmm... i think I am more toward apostle John guy haha. But i agree that people whose actions become whimsical in terms of faith need to be awaken by rebuking or deep talking.

Great scripture; 1cor14:37 completely deconstructs the cessationist arguments of sproul/macarthur bc 37 clearly dictates Paul's writings (ie cannonical) to be supreme and the means by which all prophesy is to be judged. This so simply tears down the calvinists argument of "if you prophesy and that is the word of God, then why not staple your prophecy on the back of the book of revelation" -sproul

Yes God loves when we do his will. Naming animals was one task that God gave to Adam. Second, God gave us a body in His image, and that means that He gave us brains to think! A brain to discern! A body to do His work! And so if our brains comes up with a goal that both glorifies God and helps us survive (eg career, job, a task), then it is indirectly from God! It's important that our decisions connects with the Lord. 1 Cor 10:31, Col 3:17. "Do all in the glory of God."

The question is not the "Scriptures vs the Spirit." One can almost take for granted that the decision at hand in the question is probably a NEUTRAL one in Biblical principle. God speaks to people like Balaam. You don't have to have a super special relationship with God to hear His voice. You just have to have enough faith in the Biblical ability and desire of the Holy Spirit to speak (see John chapter 16:13-14, 25). The way to counsel this person (assuming his decision is NOT counter to Biblical principle) is to dive into the mechanics and promises he is using to say that he's hearing from God. If he is doing what the Bible says to do in order to hear from God and the decision is not counter to the Bible, who is ANY of us to say the Holy Spirit DIDN'T tell this man to do this thing?

There was nothing unscriptural about George Whitfield, a preacher in The Great Awakening, claiming that he would have a son who's name would be John. That the child would be a great preacher. Except that it didn't happen, and he regretted letting his emotions be confused for the voice of God. He resolved to never do this again. I recommend the book Decision Making and the Will of God by Gary Friesen and Finding the Will of God, A Pagan Notion? By Bruce K. Waltke as good resources for correctly interpreting the relevant texts regarding Biblical Guidance.

I think prophecy should line up with the word of God. At the end of the day, God's word is sound and perfect, if I "prophesy" something but it doesn't line up with scripture it most likely isn't of God, since he doesn't contradict His own word. When it comes to careers and these type of decisions, a having a good relationship with God will help us make the wise decisions. We can also be practical about it, such as "will my job allow me to glorify God?" " Will my job have implications that make me go against the commandments of God?" Sometimes these simple questions can help us find our answers

How can prophecy be fallible? If it is fallible, then it’s not from God. If it’s not from God, it’s not prophecy. If God’s word us out measuring stick, then why do we need Prophecy? I would suggest that type of prophecy has ceased.

Read the Bible out loud. Then you're hearing from God. Sanctification will help you make decisions albeit not perfectly.

If a "prophecy" is uttered today....it must be in accord with the bible. And if it is not, then, it is not a prophecy, is it? And if a modern-day "prophecy" is incorrect, it is false, and the one who says he recieved the "prophecy" is a false prophet and a liar. And we know God's thought and that, don't we. This particular video disturbs me.....how can there be any new prophets or prophecies today? From the old testament prophets through the apostles, there were always miraculous signs confirming the person speaking truly spoke for God. We do not see this today. Always and only scripture. If you have something to say, it's already been said in the bible. No new revelation being given today in my understanding of the authoritative teaching of scripture.

It’s always 5 steps or 7 ways with Piper. I get that this is the way of the reductionist thought pattern of the modern world works. But, there is more to it than 5 things. Making choices and big decisions comes out of the ground of real discipleship and faith in Christ’s sovereignty. Piper’s all over the place here. Also - he’s not KZbin’s pastor. Have a question? Ask *your* pastor. He knows you and your situation. Talk to him / her. Don’t ask John Piper who is not your pastor and doesn’t know you.

John the first most important thing is to establish that there is a God. Show how you know what you know before making assumptions and jumping to conclusions.

Piper's service to the church doesn't focus on apologetics. Every person who is watching this, you included, are able to search for answers to the questions like how do we know truth? How do we know God? Etc. Go for them, tiger.

@@KevGuerra Its not a go for it tiger thing. It just strikes me as the first most important thing to address first. If there is no God then the rest is moot.

CompelledUnbeliever This KZbin channel is meant as primarily a service for believers who want to know God better, not a platform for arguing the existence of God to nonbelievers - there are a great many other channels that focus on apologetics. If every John Piper video started with a treatise on God's existence we wouldn't really get anywhere with the topics he wants to specifically address within the church - an audience that already believes in the truth of God's existence. However, if you are genuinely seeking and would like some resources on how you can know God is real I would be happy to send them to you! Then perhaps this content will be more relevant to you.

@@knightofalleble9841 I appreciate your offer, I have been looking all my life diligintly and have found that there is none. I appreciate your offer though. If there was actual evidence of a God I would have found it, No it would have been given to me and everyone else long ago. Best wishes.

If you would take the bigoted naturalistic blinders off of your eyes you would have found God a long time ago. The evidence for Him is everywhere to all who are truly seeking Him.
