Remember me, guy from Canada. Remember I had told you do one year MBA at a University. If you had done that during this 7 years, you would have been working in the Banking and Financial industry. When you are smart enough to become a doctor, you are smart enough to become a Business Analyst or Financial Consultant. As an IT person, let me give you a word of advice. You can do one year Masters degree in Data Analysis which is in high demand now. A lot of employers are looking for Data Analysts and Data Scientists in the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and the USA. GOOD LUCK.

Thanks for your comments. I’m more interested in Product Design & Frontend Engineering than Data Analysis, so I will likely be exploring that route next.

always great videos Hana, i cant imagine how hard you had to work to get into medicine only for it to be something that just demands far to much from you and many others, hope you are on the right path to the life you wish and deserve :).

Hey Hana, really appreciate you making this video. I’m 16 and deciding my career path and I’ve been doing tons of research and I really like learning in general, especially about the human body so I have been seriously considering medicine .Something that you and I seem to differ on is that I don’t necessarily see putting in lots of time into it as a waste of my youth, I view it pretty positively and I study for a lot of time, I quite enjoy it. When you were around 16-17 did you have a sense that you’d one day quit or that it wasn’t for you?

Hey Keziah, nice to meet you! Very fair point RE the waste of time - studying and education is never a waste of time. I should have articulated it better and said that I wish I just had spent less time worrying about my grades and more time enjoying my childhood (you don’t know how great being a kid is sometimes until you’re an adult with huge amounts of responsibility). I would still encourage students to study and work hard but to also definitely not spend your whole time *just* studying and worrying about school. :) And no! I never thought I’d give up. Even when I left I still kept my options open to go back because it was probably the most difficult decision of my life and it wasn’t an easy one to make. It took me years to feel fully comfortable with my choice. I applied to med school twice, so at your age I felt there was no stopping me!

As a med student I realized I would want to go into science or pharma, with a lot of tech, data science, computer science, software development. As a doctor I might work a day a week😂. What do you think?

i just wan to say to all the young ppl wanting to become doctors that if you want it you can get it, most people quit because they relapse it’s not what they want but if it’s what you really really want to be then just do it

I actually agree! I would never discourage anyone from doing it if they really wanted to. No one could discourage me when I really wanted to! I hope we have more doctors and medical students who love the job and have a better experience than I did. 🙂

i need advice- my parents both think being a doctor is too much work and they never encouraged anyone in my family to do it but ever since i started watching chicago med and greys anatomy i really really want to become a doctor- mostly to help people i told my friends and they all think i’m doing it coz i like the show and i do ofc but i also really like learning about diseases and infections and about the human body i find it really intresting i also like watching youtubers like Dr Mike and reading books about hospitals. I’m only 14 and rn i’m my favorite subject is biology i’d say i’m probably about the top 10-15 % in my year at science and math and i’m scared if i work to become a doctor i’ll find it too overwhelming and i would have wasted my good math skills on a job i’m not cut out for

Thanks for sharing your story with me! The best place to start for someone in your position is to do some shadowing or volunteer work. If you can shadow a doctor in a hospital for a week, you will be able to see what the job is like. It may still not be enough to make the decision but it's definitely the next step in helping you explore whether or not you can see yourself doing this job. Also, always remember that nothing has to be permanent. If you choose one career, it doesn't have to be your only career in life. You can always change your mind. :)

@@Willow-kq9qb I think so! You need to check though. The age limit may be a bit higher, and you may not need to start doing it so soon if the purpose is to apply to med school. Maybe just starting some research for now is a good place to start and maybe asking your school for info too. :)

Heyy!! So nice to meet you and thank you so much for sharing your story with me. I'm really sorry to hear that you're struggling currently. I'm not sure how far along you are in med school, but personally I was really glad I finished and got the medical degree, then chose what I wanted to do after. The degree itself helped me a lot, so even though it was hard, I'm glad I pushed through. Everyone's situation is different though, so the only person who can really make that decision is you. I really wish you all the best in making that decision. 💙

I didn’t get in the first time and tried again. It wasn’t so easy but I’m glad I pushed through because at the time I really wanted it. If it’s really what you want to do, I encourage you to keep pushing. I’m glad I went to medical school even though I didn’t end up going down a clinical route

im always questioning myself if medicine really is for me or not i mean i just don't wana keep on studying my whole life but i have seen many ppl manging to travel in med , but then again i know that pursing something in the healthcare field will give me fullfillment can u please let me know other careers in healthcare like lab or research based. Also many of my friends are going towards medicine some due to parents pressure and other idk why don't even question or think about how it will impact their life, and especially mental health. i just try to acknowledge myself about it but then i get stuck in the loop hole :(

What if ur in ur last year and wanna quit cause ur burned out and depressed and can’t study for the final exam anymore ?

Honestly, if you've made it that far, I highly encourage you to push through to finish the exams and get the degree. It will help you so much to have the medical degree, then you can decide what to do after. I know how difficult it is, trust me, but you will be thankful you pushed through till the end.

I really don’t want medicine haha, I’m currently a 3rd year and the only thing keeping me is out of fear I’ll regret leaving such a good profession+ the money that comes with it. Any advice? I have a, rather false, feeling deep inside that if I change I may fail cuz I left such a good and secure profession

It’s good that you’ve asked, because I know they are going through a lot of difficulties as well but honestly, I’m not sure what their experience is like exactly at the moment.

idk how to describe why but as a med student i feel like i get why she said it like that lol like its a really cliche and common reason to bring up but tbf it is a very real reason nonetheless
