Do I regret turning down Stanford for UNC?

This is so interesting! I didn’t apply to any ~super~ elite schools but even if I got in, I think I would’ve felt very uncomfortable being surrounded by mega rich students. I’m about to graduate from a CUNY (NY public college) and I’m so happy I transferred here. The tuition is very low (relative to other schools) and most of my costs have been covered by financial aid over the past two years. Sometimes I do imagine an alternate universe where I ended up at different schools, but my entire life path would’ve been completely different, and it’s all good bc I’m happy where I am.

I honestly feel the same way and I chose Winona State University (medium-sized school in MN) over MIT... what people don't realize is that a lot of people just don't "vibe" with the top universities. I knew instantly when I stepped onto MIT's campus that it wasn't for me. Edit: the financial aid was another big part of my decision.

It is really difficult to not be resentful of other people's blessings (esp. wealth, and if it is accompanied by the abilities that ensure academic and career success). It is very wise of you to be aware of it, and not want that negativity in your life. You are a really inspiring young woman and wise beyond your years. I applaud your family and community for having supported such a wonderful young woman. The California idea is interesting - I have the feeling as well, with no rationale. I guess I like the idea of a completely different life. Recently I’ve been more appreciative of living in the Carolinas, though. We really do have great nature and great weather, I wish I would have appreciated it more growing up.

This was so interesting to watch and I love your perspective - my top schools are Duke, UNC, Stanford, and Berkeley and seeing you turn down the prestigious and elitist schools helps me with my decision! I am from South Carolina (only 30 minutes away from NC) and I am super interested in the Morehead Cain scholarship. I hope you keep making videos because you’re a very influential figure to me - you inspired me to go vegan, to challenge myself in school, and to think differently. :)

I find it so Interesting to hear the other side of UNC. I always set myself to attend UNC and after spending my summer there I just felt like the only reason why UNC wanted me was only because I was another number to increase inclusivity and diversity. Although many universities that reached out to me used the “diverse Hispanic community” UNC made me feel like that was my only purpose for being there and it just felt fake. I’m glad chapel hill is a great fit for others, but I’m also so glad I didn’t commit just because of the “prestige.”

Not sure if you’ll see this but this video is a godsend. I’m literally in the same situation, and imposter syndrome hit so hard. A month ago I didn’t think I’d get into either. Malcom Gladwell has talked about this. Elite universities don't educate people significantly better than state schools, and the network opportunities on average aren't all that different. Instead, elite school graduates tend to do well because they would do well no matter what school they went to - they are just talented/driven people. In matched pair studies, students (like you) that could either go to elite universities or state-flagship universities are in about the same position 10 years down the road either way they play it, according to Gladwell. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6mafGBopK-kbck

"High Interest Savings" does not exist. Real inflation, even 2yrs ago, was in the range of 10%. You cannot keep your fiat money in a savings any more than you can put it in a mattress. Buy gold or silver on the stablish anti-inflation end.. and BTC, ETH, ADA etc on the high-risk end... and some stocks in the middle.
