Good question! No, I've not worked in admissions. My perspective comes from my experience editing hundreds of college admissions essays. My advice about the SAT/ACT scores is a personal opinion based on my knowledge of the process of applying to competitive schools.

I took SAT in December and got 1340(730 M and 610 RW) and I have a 94 weighted gpa . Should I submit it?

I am not sure how college essays(or personal statement) US/Canada are composed, but in Britain, you only have 4000 characters to write, and most students have hard time to shorten the essay. I would say focusing on your academic capabilities and curiosity should be priority than your studying environment 2020. Anyway, It is lovely to see you again Danielle, with love from Britain.

Hi, Minseok :) In the US, your college admissions essays should be used demonstrate that you a compelling person beyond what your grades, test scores, and accomplishments say about you. That can be accomplished in many ways. I would advise against focusing on conveying a particular trait or skill, but rather thinking of a story about a life experience that you can use to show admissions that you have depth as a person.

I am really scared, I haven’t given the SAT as I’m an Indian student applying as an international student and our country went in lockdown in the middle of our national examinations which meant that I didn’t have the chance to take the SAT. I’m worried it will disadvantage my application :(

Most of the schools I am applying to have a 30-40% acceptance rate and I’m not sure if I should submit my ACT, my highest composite was a 26 (34/35 in English and reading and very low in math and science 😬) which reflect my strong suits. I have very above average involvement but my gpa 3.97. Any advice?

@@danielledupreez I did not take the SAT, and the school with the highest acceptance rate is Loyola Chicago (67%) and the lowest is Emerson College (34%)

No you should not, A 30 is like a below average, wayyyy below the average score for Yale, don’t expect to submit anything below a 35, okay 34, to Yale and the likes. Same applies for the SAT, atleast 1520, maybe 1500 too, but even 10 points less than that, I’m sorry... I know I’m being ridiculous and you probably heard about that child who got into Harvard with 1100 SAT but... that’s how it works at Ivies, it’s a long shot.. and such scores do nothing but reduce the probability of getting in...

I have something called accommodative insufficiency which means the muscles of my eyes have trouble focusing after extended periods of looking at things up close, so I need reading glasses. Also I'm sorry, the kitty does what she wants lol

I think it’s honestly offensive to say that we should submit test scores. Just because we were “supposed” to take it earlier. You were very insensitive. -a student in the class of 2021

Well, if you didn't take it then no, you can't submit any scores. What I mentioned in the video is that if you have scores, don't take the gamble of not sending them. I personally don't think you're "supposed" to take the SAT at any particular time, I'm just relaying the general expectation from competitive schools.

Don’t worry about the ankle biters dude, let’s hope they get into Harvard with the 1100 SAT and 2.0 gpa... we should not be truthful and frank and rather keep their hopes up that they’ll surely get in without proper planning, especially to colleges which pick like 4 students out of 100... let’s be optimistic 😃...
