luckydude x I agree that everyone has the right to like or dislike his voice. My issue stems from the descriptor term “gay” for a voice. No one would say someone sounds “too straight”. I think what people mean when they dislike a voice they describe as “too gay”, they potentially are displeased with the nasal quality of their voice. Perhaps it’s a vocal fry? Maybe their voice is too high pitched? All of which are better suited descriptors for someone’s displeasure of his voice instead of using the term gay as a negative. we need to get better at finding proper descriptors to communicate our opinions and educate ourselves as to why describing something as “too gay” when we mean negative is hurtful to individuals as well as the LGBT+ community as a whole.
@luckydudex37654 жыл бұрын
@@bryanperez6381 Yes, I know where you are coming from. You pretty much summed it up on what people mean when they refer to a voice as gay (vocal fry, high pitched, feminine etc...). A gay voice is thay stereotypical voice that you can tell a person is gay. Personally, I don't mind because I get where people are coming from when they use the word "gay" to describe a voice. Many gay men, do sound like that, compared to straight men. I am also one of the people who find the term "straight acting" OK as well, because, again, I know where they are coming from when they use that term. Even though not all straight men act the same.

For example, in Venice (north Italy) people speaks with high pitched voice because of its accent, which leads to a certain inflection. Very true the comment in the video that a gay voice tends to copy a female figure in your formative years. It's not only about whether you develop a high- or a low-pitched voice but more about the intonation, the way you relate a story, how much you say and how quickly you talk. I like the idea of being yourself including when using your voice, but it's also important to work on some bad habits and do some changes, especially if you realise your voice reflects some of the insecurities you were growing up with as a young gay person. Good topic and video, thank you.

Sam, I think the tone of your voice is extremely deep and manly. What makes it gay is the way you speak sometimes. For example how you say 'I'll see you next time' in the end, no straight would say it with that pronunciation. But I totally agree that you should stay true to yourself and in 2020 it's sexxyyy to sound gay, i love it!! 💜❤️💜

Good conversation between you and your friend. I think sometimes the way we sound depends on where we’re from versus whether your gay or not. Even in the US, people from different states sound different. Sam, we love you the way you are. So, don’t change that. Keep up the good work. Btw, your friend seems like a really nice guy.

Gay voice is fine, it lacks confidence because everything sounds like a question rather than a statement, but it also is friendlier. I'd suggest editing the word like. That should happen with age.

Beautifully said Sam. This thought provoking video really caught me. The voice we grow into is a natural part of us. What you will always find is people will project whatever their own insecurities are. That makes for a good time to converse about it. I have Diva voice myself! You and our pal made this fun. So glad I can still relate to the young people even though I went through the people attacking my voice back in the 70's. Have fun with it. make your weakness your strength.

You don’t sound gay, as the way people define the term “gay voice”. People find it feminine, which is totally okay to have a feminine voice. My voice is not soft but the way I talk is more feminine compare to a straight guy even though I’m not aware of it. It took time for me to be comfortable with how I sound. I feel like a man, and I like men, how I sound is kinda out of conscious and I’m okay with it cause It’s a part of my personality.

Ok, as a Spaniard I cannot help to giggle in an “awww” mode each time he says something in Spanish 😍 But seriously though, I have a high pitched voice, and I guess that I normally speak in a “expressive/passionate” way. I know that as long as I’m being natural I don’t have to be ashamed in any way of how I speak and who I am, but I guess there’s a need to be accepted and liked by the rest of the society and... as it’s been said, in certain situations you tame yourself to make yourself more agreeable to the common taste. Anyway, the point is to know that there’s nothing to be ashamed of and, for heaven’s sake, it’s stupid that in 2020 we still have to be labelled in some way because of a construction of the gender roles 🤦🏻♀️

No matter the sound of your voice - I LOVE that you always use your voice for the best of intention. Saying that one has a "gay voice" is just another label, a type, a stereotype - you get the picture. Personally, to me... your voice has beautiful masculine tones with clarity in your speech and great enunciation. What matters most to me is that you are one of my role models, a man that I look up too. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I look forward to sharing my story with you and hope to communicate our adventures soon. Take care my friend.

Ha! The voice definitely has that gay aura. Is not about how deep-pitch the voice is, but the enunciation/ intonation. The intonation kinda identical to Tyler Oakley, IMHO.

When it comes to accents (and there is a gay accent 😂) it’s all about the way you pronounce vowels, both pitch and longevity, I’ve found that guys who are more feminine tend to pronounce their vowels at a higher pitch to the general tone of their voice and elongate the sound, guys who have an accent that does this naturally then tend to go even higher on the vowels and elongate the sound more. I’ve found this a pretty good tell for whether a guy is gay or not. Most people I meet don’t know I’m gay until I tell them I am, it’s funny whenever I start a new job and after a month or so it comes up that I’m engaged and they as about “her” and I’m just like, “yeah, it’s he” 😂😂 I also have a pretty good gaydar tbh as well, my last job there was this super masc guy who I crushed on so hard, while I was talking to another gay guy who I worked with I mentioned that I found the masc guy super hot my friend agreed but said he had a Long term Gf, I didn’t say anything because I don’t feel anyone has the right to try and out someone they “think” is gay, but I was certain he was. Anyway after a few months the masc guy left the company, broke up with his Gf and then started posting pics online of himself with a Bf! I did message him eventually just to say hi and ask how things were going and we got onto the subject of the Bf (I steered it in that direction) and he was said he had known for a while but was to scared to come out because he was worried people would treat him differently, after he broke up with his Gf he wanted to come out but he wanted to leave the company we were working for and start a new job as an out guy so people would know him as him and not as someone else.

Why do people care about these stupid things anyways. People have personalities and certain behaviors that separate them from others and that’s what makes them beautiful. I personally love when people are different from the rest. It would be boring if everyone sounded the same. Just think of it as a dialect thats imprinted on you to fit in! The same with people with deep voices they can just change it and make it even deeper when they wanna impress someone or make it lighter when their more comfortable with someone. Anyone can do it! It’s our human nature! It’s sad people judge someone’s character by the way their voice sounds when people’s voices fluctuate every second of the day it’s just a sound to communicate.😇

To me it’s suuuuuuper attractive when the guys “sound gay” or more feminine or whatever, it’s very homophobic people complain about it, it’s a sign misogyny inside gay community, same misogyny that kill us in the streets. It's ridiculous at this day and age to hate on how someone speaks, several factors affect our tone and pitch and society can stop deciding what is ok. Because preferences do differ. Sam's voice is clear enough to understand and it's really nice. Sticking a label to everything is not ok.

Who's to say what "sounds" gay or straight? There's no way to ever determine it. However, you do exhibit "vocal frying" aspects to your voice which is in an affectation (we all have our own.) I'm sure that a vocal expert can explain this further. Sound gay? No. Vocal fryer? Yes. Regardless, you be you.
