Indian records against spin in tests recently are saved by lower order batting. If you consider which batting position scored runs in test against spin, you will be surprised. In the previous decade before Rohit era, most test runs scored by top order, need lower order score was less. But in this decade significant amount of runs came from lower order, which saved overall record.

It's not even a secret anymore, players from the subcontinent have become average players of spin these days especially players from both India and Pakistan. The main reason behind this is that the main players do not play domestic cricket anymore. Kohli has become an average player of spin due to not playing any sweep shots or using his feet against spinners -- two things that he used to do a lot in the early days of his career against spinners.

Yes, India has poblem against spin for a long time now. Indian test team is much more comfortable to play outside bouncy pitches than play at home in turner. Spin playing needs patience and a lot of grit and determination. This can not be expected from Gen-Z. I am not saying they are not putting the effort. They are way fitter than older players. 2010's batsmen were very good and perhaps better at 3 things 1. using their wrists to nudge the ball around and/or create pace on slower balls 2. using the crease - dancing down the wicket or going really back and playing the pull or square cut 3. targeting specific spinners and not letting them settle They even did it to Shane Warne and Muralidharan including in SriLanka. Right from Sidhu, Sehwag, Dravid, Sachin, Ganguly, Laxman - all masters of spin. I can only remember Saqlain really bothering these guys in one test series in India Even though the current Indian team is good, the way cricket has played is changed, the pitches are different, DRS made it more challenging to put the bat behind the pad and block deliveries, etc, they are still not collectively comparable to the 2010s batting lineup. So ofc, the averages dropping is no surprise. Is like comparing the test win ratio of Australian 2010s cricket team vs today's. Even though today's Aussie team is prolly the best test team, its not comparable to the likes of hayden, langer, ponting, gilchrist, gillespie, warne and macgrath

I do think that India are struggling against spin because they have stopped playing sweep shots. Rohit plays sweeps more compared to others and the results are there for everyone to see. Virat doesn't sweep much and he fails to accelerate during middle overs. The last series where Virat played sweep a lot was probably in the Border Gavaskar Trophy in 2014-15 in Australia. He should play it more often.

Great analysis 👍 Subcontinent conditions: 1. There is no debate that india play spinner well in indian subcontinent, since mostly they play straight its easy to manage the spin as pitch is slow and its easy to do last minute adjustment. 2. Overseas players tends to play sweep which is not the best option in subcontinent condition. SENA conditions: 1. As indian batters are accustomed to play straight, they don't play well spinner well as the ball comes quicker from the surface. *Bowlers like rashid khan, zampa make it tough sometimes for indian batters. 2. Sweep or cross shots may be considered as higher percentage shots which english/australian batters plays significantly better.

Even when someone is presenting legit stats and scales to show that "India is not really getting weak against spin" it's the diffrence of era. People are still having their nostalgia far masks on lol. Like how you can't really play with soft hands because the loss of hitting power, the pitches since 2017eng series are the worst for batting in Indian history and other teams are overall getting better in terms of field placement and analysis regarding the batters. I mean in comparison 70s and 80s never had drs which helps the spinners the most(even KP said the same), since late 90s to 2015/16 India was serving flat decks. In the entire 90s-10s only Warnie and Murli were proper gold standard spinners along with Pak but India rarely played Pak on good wickets as both teams used to keep making flat decks so that the series can turn up to a draw and they both can live to see another day. Or how about the curator's own words where he stated that he was ordered to make the leg side dry when Warnie was travelling to India for the tour and then Indian batters bashed him into oblivion. Or how they were ripped apart from a debutant Mendis ? Or how about the 04 and 08 Asia cup where SL ripped them in the finals ? What happened to the "best players of spin" when the situation demanded the most of them ? The only guy who we can name as the best against spin is Sehwag. Others were 50-50 cases all the fucking time.

This notion of Indians are still masters of playing spin even in Tests is absolutely ludicrous. Let them invite Sri Lanka or Bangladesh for more than 2 Tests and play them in pitches that resemble the likes on which they bully Australia or England. Their batters only look better in comparison cause they are playing against bowlers who are much worse in those conditions compared to their spinning greats. I'm from Bangladesh so I can't confidently say we would beat them in Test matches overall but I know for a fact that our spinners are just as good as them on those wickets. If Shakib, Taijul and Miraz can get a go at them on spinning tracks in India, I am absolutely sure they wouldn't stand a chance. . I know that'll never happen cause that's how you use home advantage in test cricket but saying they are the best is a joke. They are just as clueless as most modern cricketers. . Indians on their quest to become the best team on all kinds of conditions have let go of their subcontinent roots. That is the truth of it. . Yes they are actively trying to sweep the ball more often but it is ridiculous that they have to actively do that as if they are English or Australians. You should have that in your repertoire before coming to international cricket as a player from the subcontinent. . In white ball cricket, they mostly play on batting tracks which helps in maintaining those ridiculous stats across the team and that's why they get found out in tournaments when the pitches begin to deteriorate later. . Since about 2018 they have been struggling whenever the pitch offers any sort of turn. They especially struggle against leg-spinners as not even their greats can read the ball out of the hand. But we can let that slide as these days I don't think there are many people left in the world who can do that. . They don't play first class cricket. . They are good. Perhaps the best overall. But nowhere near being considered to be Masters of playing spin bowling.

@@cobragaming1186 Everybody in the world knows that. I'm not saying we are gonna beat you guys 2-0. Even getting a draw will be very challenging for us if the pitch allows it (Cause I don't believe in our batters). What I'm saying is India will not prepare spinning tracks for this series cause our spinners are just as good. This possibility went out the window further when they saw us beat Pakistan 2-0. They could've prepared a green top but we have a good pace bowling attack as well. So, the most likely scenario is they are gonna prepare flat pitches where they are gonna try to outplay us longer in the 5 days to get a win. But if Bangladesh can win the toss, then there's a big chance that we can draw or win a test match against India. This possibility is going back to my original point that the current generation of Indian players, even their greats are not masters of playing spin. Otherwise they wouldn't be afraid of preparing normal wickets when Bangladesh is coming over.
