Hi All - As announced in this video (bit.ly/3eduRGS) I’ve launched a Career Consulting / Life Chatting “Service” where I’m meeting people virtually for 30 minute sessions. I’m continuing to make videos and answering every question I can in the comments as always and live streaming every Wednesday at 10pm EST, but this is a good opportunity if you’re in need of individually catered advice. If you’re interested, please fill out this form forms.gle/LRdnvX7inZWYoBrj7 Looking forward to hearing from you!

There aren't that many people who work over 50 actual hours a week. When you're junior you may grind out more hours but 60 hours of actual work a week would be considered a lot unless something big happened in the markets. Even then you'd be pressed to work 100 hours.
@TheBryanJun

Agreed
@abicortez6031
@abicortez6031 4 жыл бұрын
I agree. From my experience, working for long hours can really give a first year analyst an advantage, but one thing i learned is it also depends on company culture. Asian banks tend to focus more on the number of hours (in particular, OT work hours), than western banks. Oh and yes even outside working hours, clients, counterparties, and bosses can still reach you via email and texts and calls even on weekends and holidays, and it can sometimes feel like i'm on call 24/7, wfh or not. That feeling is the more stressful one for me honestly than the actual work haha.
@TheBryanJun
@TheBryanJun 4 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree. The work itself honestly isn't bad, actually pretty interesting for something at the entry level, it's just the on call aspect

Solid video Brian! I think this is also a great summary of the work hours in the Management Consulting space. I also second the point of getting 4 years of experience in 2 years. There’s definitely cost, b it that accelerated development is a big leg up as we progress through our careers.

Damn just found this channel, it’s pretty great, so informative. A) I was planning on double majoring in finance and healthcare admin (to get into that industry if I want), so what do you think of that? And that leads me to my second question B) how valued is IB, like let’s say I did this for like 8 years, and then I wanna at a “real” company or something, maybe like healthcare; will I be taking a step back to enter that or is IB gonna help me leap directly into like a corporate executive?
@TheBryanJun
@TheBryanJun 4 жыл бұрын
I think expanding options is always good - jumping from IB is good in any field, I will say at 8 years you're probably on track to becoming an MD and unless you get hired directly into an executive role you'd probably want to stay at the current firm considering the pay / relationship building

Would you be available to chat/text briefly offline? Son is considering a few LACs and wants to work in IB. He is also a recruited athlete and several schools located in the NE (NESCAC teams) and a significant college near Boston is also interested. However, he had a call with a coach of a notable midwestern school today, and a few others in the area are interested as well. The path of least resistance may be an IB in Chicago! Learning more about your midwestern LAC to firm experience would be extremely beneficial.

omg! i just found your account and I have been obsessed with it and all the information it gives. I've always liked the idea of working as an investment banker and this channel really gives a lot of insight into what it means to work as one. i had two questions, which I thought you could answer: do you think having a mba is beneficial when you're an investment banker? and I've wanted to always go to ucsd for undergrad, so I would theoretically get my banking/finance degree from there, and then move to new york and get my mba at nyu stern. do you think recruitments (from banks like jp morgan and goldman and sachs) happen when you're getting your mba from a target school in a city like new york? thank you!

@TheBryanJun
@TheBryanJun 4 жыл бұрын
I think the resistance and resilient is something that's built. Not sure how important it is for other jobs but I think it's a decent life skill to have
@samguy7209
@samguy7209 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheBryanJun I think stress resistance and resilience is something innate and maybe something you inherit or somehow develop. People have different levels of pain and different capacities to handle stress. Those who can endure and persevere through difficult times and obstacles tend to have higher levels of focus and determination. It might be ingrained in the person depending on their culture and upbringing. But then again, it probably boils down to the individual's goals and motivation.
