Do Israeli filters work on Soviet Gas Masks?

I frequently get questions asking "Do Israeli filters work on Soviet Gas Masks?" or "Do Israeli filters work on a GP-5". As I've been asked this so many times I decided to test it for myself.
Israeli filters are known technically as the Shalon Type 80 filter, they are basically an American C2/C2A1 filter made by Israel with a slightly different case.
Israeli masks have normalised threads meaning they can take both NATO and GOST filters, many people have speculated due to this Israeli filters will fit GOST masks.
Shalon themselves say Type 80 filters use a standard NATO thread on their website and advertisement brochures.
After a bit of testing I have concluded that Israeli Type 80 filters make a better seal with Soviet GOST masks than most NATO filters but they DO NOT make an airtight seal, meaning you are still at risk of inhaling airborne threats if you use an Israeli filter with a GOST mask.
Masks used in the video were the GP-5/ShM-62U, PMG and ShMS. I also used an Israeli Shalon 4a1 mask to check the Israeli filter was indeed working.
Banana oil/Isoamyl Acetate and pine air freshener were used to check the seals of the mask.

I had bought my German m65 gas mask off amazon years ago, and after seeing this video I believe they had sent me the Israeli filter with it. Looks identical to that filter.

Justifies my love for the pmg masks, I have 4 and have yet to find a filter that they won't pass an air freshener test with, nato or gost thread, the rubber threads just flex to allow the nato filters in enough to seal, if it had a drinking system and maybe an oral-nasal cup it would be the perfect mask, best thing is stand alone masks sell for 12- 20$ on Ebay and complete kits are only 30-40$, they do run smaller than other Soviet masks tho

I used that filter with the GP-5 mask today when I went shopping at Walmart and Home Depot. Seemed to work! I think it did the trick for protecting against any potential Coronavirus exposure.

yeah i tried this with my polish variant of the gp 5 and it lets small amounts of gas through also, and i tried with the hose too and the seal with the hose is not compatible at all and when pressurizing the mask it noticeably leaks air, but surprisingly the other end of the hose screws into the israeli civilian gas mask fine, but i have not checked it with odour vapours yet so i dont know if it seals fully

There is a gap in the threads. I used tape to stop it. If I had no other option I'd tape an Israeli filter on it, but its not ideal.

Also the 2nd soviet mask works with israeli filters along with some C2 filters which is pretty cool design wise. Also the mask im talking about is the metro cop looking one [ sorry i cant think of the name of the mask at the moment XD ]

It's okay, issue is the filter port is rubber so the weight of the filter pulls the mask lopsided.

I just fit my Israeli filter multiple times because the filter would be slanted but after a while it threads in perfectly and it works (gp5)

Mabie to get around that, you could put a rubber band on the outside of the screw thread before you put in the filter, then shift it into place over the gap after you screw it on.

Really starting to believe that nato filters very wildly in tolerance from factory to factory, some will make seals but most won't, I found 80s German filters to fit Soviet masks most commonly for whatever reason tho

They are technically NATO filters so yes, Israeli masks are normally normalised so they fit both NATO and GOST filters, however Israeli filters themselves seem to be 40mm NATO STANAG/RD40 threaded.

You could always use t-tape to make sure there would be no leaks. You know that pink plumbers tape for threads

Well GP-5s are actually very durable, but my CT-12 is probably the most durable mask I own.

We don't know what's in them, my advice is not to use them but yeah you can use the mask without the filters.
