Same in Greece. If you want a quick snack, people stand at the shop in the designated area and eat. They do not walk around eating.

I prefer eating while sitting down, I need to concentrate on how beautiful my food is and appreciate every bite hahaha

In London it is awful! People walk around sipping and eating. Even on a crowded tube or bus! Many times I am afraid some coffee will spill over me. I can't wait to get out.

Hi Elisa! I was in Rome the first week of December and I was pleasantly surprised to find a pasta fast food place. Like you said very small and just 3 tables, but the food was really good. We sat down to eat and the next time we visited we actually took it to go and ate it at our airbnb. I love Rome so much that I definitelytely felt like a local while eating there. Love your channel!

Generally speaking, Americans do not respect meal times. We used to depend on that wonderful gathering time with family to eat and discuss the day. My children are married and I notice they have dropped the togetherness of the evening meal. I miss that. So, I do not find the Italian custom of sitting down to eat, unusual. I love the idea!

I live on the east coast of the US, and we often eat and and walk or even eat and drive. I try to eat more like an Italian (sitting), not only because it's more pleasant and helps me to enjoy my food more, but also because it's healthier. It's become easier since I'm no longer commuting 10 hours a week and working 50+ hours on top of that. I think that a lot of Americans are so crunched for time that eating time and sleeping time suffer.

Eating and driving?? I only did it once because I was seriously starving and it wasn't easy at all! Probably a soft skill to add to your resumee haha I understand the reasons behind, thanks a lot for the explanation, I'm glad you stopped working so much! Eating and sleeping should be our priorities :D

I think just every where in the US it's a normal thing to do, eating and doing something.... always rushing around, coffee is consumed around the clock in most places....I'm the northeastern part of the states and I'm guilty of drinking coffee around the clock and eating on the go....thank you!!!!

In Australia at least, things are in a bit of flux. Traditionally, meals are eaten at a table, but with the continued Americanisation of the culture, there is more walking around eating on the go. The exceptions are things like picnics, where you will sit on a blanket in the park, or a barbeque which might have a table component, but often people just sit around in chairs without a table, or stand around.

We don't say bar for a restaurant where you buy food. If you go there for breakfast only, we call that a Cafe. In the U.S. we only say Bar for a place that sells Alcohol.

I'm going on holidays to Rome this summer and Id like to know if italians do understand perfectly or almost well spanish speakers, I guess not a all but as I can understand almost everything of italian people speaking without actually knowing the language...
@RomeInside
@RomeInside 6 жыл бұрын
Spanish and Italian are not extremely different so you shouldn't have many problems. Maybe I would check out specific words like "conto" (the check/bill) or something like that, since they may vary substantially :) Most italians I know don't actually know spanish but it's not that hard for them to understand it, especially if the person is speaking slowly.

Do you have any tips for visitors who are trying to tour attractions in Rome during the day and might not have time to go back to the hotel or a restaurant for a sit-down meal at lunch time? I’m trying to plan what to do for lunches because we might be seeing attractions in the middle of the day during meal times but it’s hard to sacrifice sightseeing time especially during a museum tour or something! I do want to enjoy most meals but I know there may be a time here and there that we may not have time.

you can go in fast food like pizza al taglio (or al trancio) or to tourist restaurant, but this tourist place normally have less quality and are overprized. try the italian way, in the summer, at 13:30 go in a restaurant, eat inside and go outside at 15:00, keep visiting, at 20:00 have dinner in another restaurant (or a pizzeria), at 21/22 you are out and keep visiting until midnight

Simon Gregory Glad to hear that! Yes, you can totally do that :) I wouldn't say you'll see lots of people doing that but it also really depends on the park you're going. I used to have lunch in the park nearby my university and you could see several people eating their lunch there

Is it OK to eat a sandwich on a bench in a public park?
@BICIeCOMPUTERconGabriele
@BICIeCOMPUTERconGabriele 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. It's also ok eating while walking... or in the public transportations. I mean: no law prohibites that... we Italians just don't do it because we don't like it, we consider eating a pleasure, and not a necessity to accomplish with the less effort possible (like putting fuel in a car at the gas station). But it's not forbidden.

Buona sera Bella. I wanted to share this little note. I recently discovered a great Italian musician in Italy there... actually there are I know several very good musicians in Italy. But this Gentleman's name is ? Nicola Conte the jazz tune of his that got this guy hooked on his Grande jazz music was a song titled? My kind of Sunshine. The woman who sings that tune on his CD's Lucia Minetti is in my view one very Bellissima Beauty... I so hope to one day come to Italy. By the way Mr. Conte ? Is from i believe? Bari Italy and that is where my Great grandfather on my father's side is from originally. So you can see why I'm partial to him but his music along with Lorenzo Tucci a drummer there also in Italy are two really great jazz lovers and excellent musicians. Anyway please look them up if you like and I look forward to seeing another one of your great video posts here. Ciao and Buona notte. 😘
