When I was in Japan, I went to several temples and shrines, and there was definitely a spirituality about the place. I am not Japanese, so I am no expert, but I have made a casual study of religion in Japan. As the interviewees implied, most Japanese don't consider themselves religious, even though they engage in what could be considered religious practices (praying at a shrine to pass exams, for example). But, despite the fact that several of the interviewers said there is "nothingness" after death, ghost stories about in Japan, Shinto, as a nature based "religion", has kami as spirits of departed souls, both Shinto and Buddhism have rituals performed after a death (such as on the 49th day), and rites are often performed. There are some great books on the subject of religion in Japan, and this interview was only a small sampling. I think there is a spirituality to Japan. As a side note, I wonder how many of these interviewees will start thinking *more* about this topic now, as the questions got them thinking lol.
@commentarytalk1446 Жыл бұрын
Your comment here and Santi on the same topic are well put together. My observation of those interviewed is they all demonstrated a lot of correct perception about religion and what it is and does and how they interact more as you say with cultural aspects and personal aspects as opposed to public aspects of Shinto/Buddhism. As they also say, the rise of the modern cults is unfortunate but far from unpredictable also.
Some quotes I forgot who said it: "I'd rather place my faith in God and find that hell doesn't exist after death, than ignore god and realize that hell exist after death." Basically, I would rather bring umbrella even tho there's no rain, than I don't bring an umbrella but the rain comes down. Bringing umbrella (religion) everywhere in unwanted condition might just inconvenience. But stuck at some place because you don't bring any umbrella and had to wait rains stop is far more inconvenience (Well in hell you might wait until your sins are forgiven or maybe not).

There’s also no “evidence” that there is nothingness in the afterlife. But we have a book called the Holy Bible , and we can be confident that we can go to heaven through the Lord Jesus Christ And we can be confident that we will go to a literal hell if we reject the gospel. The evidence of God is the perfect universe , and our 3 trillion strands of complex DNA perfectly designed Jesus Christ was a real historical figure, if He actually rose from the dead, like how the eye witnesses claimed, everything He said is true… including heaven and hell Romans 10:9 KJV is your free ticket into heaven, confidently.

I was impressed with how perceptive the Japanese seemed to be with their views on religions, their own culture and festivals or celebrations (Shinto/Buddist) and I accord with their concern with respect to the rise of cults under the guise of religion. In the West there is similar cult rise in what is called "woke" which is a secular religion of the West promoted by politicians in place of a belief-system ie Christianity's decline has left a void which they seek to exploit and fill. The idea most people have is because there is science it explains everything so religion is no longer needed and yet look at the results in evidence today to disprove that idea.
@nensondubois5 ай бұрын
There is definite truth to your statement; "wokism" is a cult just like any extreme social movement to get people to act a certain way, spend money or confuse people with deception. Natural order needs to exist in any society for it to function without problems. I also agree that police, poor political decisions have caused a lot of problems and maybe there should be some form of reparations to be made-to what extent I don't know.

Interestingly enough, near death experiencies in the west show some common patterns that were present in old japanese spirituality (shinto and buddhism) such as connection with the "whole", the idea of reencarnation and our personality as a temporary desguise, being pure consciousness our true essence. Such a shame they have lost it.

When a religion forces people to contribute, is that really out of goodwill or a form of a government control.
The one kid responds that he "doesn't care" whether there is an afterlife. I'm baffled by this and by the common affirmations from others both in other videos, movies, books, and even in this comment section, that there's some sort of affable maturity in that response rather than dumb immaturity and even cognitive dissonance. Surely he cares about what happens to him tomorrow--but not even denying the possibility of a sort of "tomorrow" to life on earth, he simply shrugs? That's a lack of imagination not some kind of deeply mystically beautiful cultural blossoming in the ancient Japan's sons and daughters. Missionaries (including one in this comment section) appear to give up on the Japanese? Why? Every single answer these people gave in your video could easily be followed up with a continued conversation that I think would enlighten both parties. Are they intellectually stunted? Why are they stunted in their curiosity? And yes, by my tone you should tell that I'm frustrated by this because I seem to have better luck teaching children to wonder about their sense of the divine than missionaries are capable of doing with entire generations of Japanese people.
@corbor221610 ай бұрын
I understand you being frustrated with this, but I also understand those who have given up on trying to reach Japan for the Gospel(though I believe they’re wrong to do so). Japan has remained at about 1% Christian for decades now and there has been no sign of growth. As someone who consumes a lot of Japanese entertainment, I often see storylines where God and Christians (or very Christian-like substitutes) are portrayed as straight up evil. It’s not even old fashioned atheism. These stories will portray God as real and then the protagonists will kill Him. There is an intense love of the demonic and darkness in a lot of Japanese media. Hedonism and a strong sense of nationalism also run throughout the country. If it’s not Japanese and it keeps them from drowning their depression in vices, then they want nothing to do with it. Another problem is that Japan is not considered a high priority for missionary work since it’s a first world country. That’s silly, of course, because so much Japanese media is consumed across the world that evangelizing Japan would also affect other countries. It looks VERY bleak for the increase of Christianity in Japan, but we should always keep trying. Even if only a few are saved, that will matter for eternity

@@corbor2216 Japan portrays Christianity & God as 'straight-up' evil not helped by the historical fact of colonialism, imperialism, destruction & past genocides of pagan nations and cultures in its two thousand years of Christianity's existence. For some cultures, Christianity's vow to upheave, upturn, or even outright eliminate their own religion & culture was the first, and only ever experience, with first-contact Christians. (Matthew: 10:35-6 "For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother [...] and a man's foes shall be that of his own household".) I think this video shows the interviewees are either conflicted or do not know much about religion. It is not a subject they have studied or practiced very much. They have more of a personal opinion about these questions, but it doesn't seem based on personal study or investigation. From what they said, Shintoism and Buddhism are customs and not religious practices. I think Japanese follow customs, not religions. Their knowledge of religion is very limited.

0:33 I love this photo. Look at the golden 6-pointed stars on the tree. Of course this is a common decoration for many cultures, as it is a very simple and pretty shape. But also 6 point stars are very closely related to Judaism and Jewish culture. So here we possibly have this scenario: A Japanese man, who goes to Shinto temples to pray, but is actually a Buddhist, putting up a Christian symbol, of pagan tree worship, covered in Jewish stars, that he was inspired to use by watching an agnostic Jewish family celebrate Chanukah, even though he does not believe in God, but please don't call him an atheist, because he does Hindu Yoga.

The only argument that can be said about the critique of religion is that Secularism has just as much blood on its hands. Communism, Fascism, Misanthropy, Nihilism and or any Radical Atheist Movement. The blood that comes from Nihilism and Misanthropy (usually both are intertwined) are lonewolfs who commit those crimes. They still count as murder within Secularism. Communism and Fascism on the otherhand are collectivist Secular beliefs that spilled the blood of millions. So in conclusion Secularism is just as dangerous
Me too. Hahahaha I'm also very glad there is many xenophobes in Japan. Because the world is full of religitards. Their xenophobia has saved their country from being Christianized(historical fact)

"Brainwashed" is a matter of semantics. Secularism can be just as brainwashing such as Communism, Fascism, Misanthropy, Nihilism. Those are secular beliefs with plenty of blood on its own hands

It’s a lot easier to believe there is nothingness after we die than to believe in a heaven or hell 😅. Science also doesn’t prove there is nothingness after we die… what proof is there for that? Nothing. If you believe that, then you probably don’t believe in justice and would rather avoid accountability.

Jesus was both 100 percent God, and 100 percent human. Jesus was a humble man, yet also divine. As stated in john 1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And john 1 verse 14 "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."

There are many evidence that God and eternal life exist… I think that we all are religious although sometimes we are not aware of this. The 10 commandments which God gave us are placed in every human being’s heart. It is natural for us that we do not want to betray our wife or husband or at least we do not feel comfortable with this, we want to be honest, we do not want to kill etc. It is natural for all of us except those who are very much hurt in their lifetime.

Jesus Christ said his second coming are near.. there will be famine .. wars .. deadly virus.. natural disasters but deadly... etc.. in coming years because our HEAVENLY FATHER felt so disgusted how the people on earth do the things he hates the most .. Wars and earthquakes etc are described in the bible as a sign of Jesus Christ’s presence I.e when he’s here, not signs that he will be coming. If someone has a presence they are here, if they haven’t arrived they don’t have a presence. So when his disciples asked how would his followers know he was here, Jesus gave them signs so they would know he was here, I.e wars, earthquakes, food shortage, disease etc. They are all happening now. So he is here not on earth but in heaven.

We as Muslims believe in the existence of one God who created us to worship Him and not associate anyone with Him. We believe in a messenger such as Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad, may God bless them and grant them peace, as messengers sent by God to call people to worship Him. God has commanded us to have good morals and not to attack others. We believe in life after death. If we are believers and do good deeds, we will enter Paradise. If the opposite is true, our fate is Hell.

He rose from the dead and has redemptively purchased us with His Blood. The righteousness of our Holy God is satisfied by the Blood of the Savior, Jesus Christ. Bless you!
@galihcahyo56154 ай бұрын
Believing in something doesnt mean you always need to SEE it to believe it was true or not. If people didnt believe in god existence just because they havent seen "god", they should try to feel their existence without seeing it. For example, if you see the road at night is dry and clean, then you proceed to sleep without knowing anything surrounding you, next morning you see the road is wet and full of fallen leaves. Did you not believe there was storm in the night? Of course you believe there was storm, but did you saw it with your own eyes? Nope, but you still believe there was storm right?. So telling that the god is not there because you cant see it is a weak argument. God didnt exist if you didnt need "god" in your life. There were an example of a barber with his customer. They discuss something about existence of god. The barber said to to the customer while cutting his customer hair "there was no god because if god exist there were no war, poverty, pain, in all over the world, now we saw everywhere we go there will always be war,criminal,poverty,etc". The customer then pointing toward someone outside the barbershop. There was a man with a very long and messy hair, his hair has not been treated like for about 2 years. "Barber didnt exist because if barber exist there wouldnt bee people with a very long and messy hair like that guy". The barber then said "of course theres barber out there, me and many place you go go there will be barber". Customer then asking the barber "If barber exist then why didnt he cut his hair?" , barber said "because he didnt want to". The customer then said "likewise god, if you dont need god help then you wont get helped by god" that indicate that there is god. In 1:49 he didnt believe in god, yet in 11:55 he believe to get into heaver or hell he agreed its in the god judgement. Uhh i dunno. The question to ask if there is afterlife to non religious people is not asking them "is there afterlife?" Because they will just answer there is no afterlife, only nothingness. Then what about "if there IS afterlife?" Because theyre not sure if afterlife exist or not, so which one is better? Of course believing in afterlife is much better option, because you can make sure you do good in this life. If thinking that there will only be nothingness after we die, then theres no worth for and also purposes for living being in this world. There will be no moral compasses to everyone if they think there is only nothingness in afterlife. 12:57 the guys showing his book that told us "human is just a tool to spread a gene". Then we are no different than wild animal. We got ourself mind. Its a shame if we didnt think enough to our existence. 13:43 yup, he said it himself that it would be wise to do as we want while we are alive. The question is, is it really "as we want?" Or there will be exception, unless it is good and no harm? Then how do we define good and evil? Following our conscience/heart is not always go right. So it leave us with only 1 thing. Religion. With religion there will always be a moral compass wether its good or evil. Although i completely saw that many people said "then why non religious people often do much more good than religious people did?" Well, its not only about the religion. Every religion that i knew will always told us to do good. The problem in here is not the religion, its the person. Its not always non religious people often do good, there were some of them that do harm to. Its the same with religious people. Despite my argument is a bit sensitive toward those non religious people, im just saying that i do respect every people without seeing their religion, culture, etc. Im just sharing my opinion for what im seeing is right. Peace. Sorry for my broken english.

May Allah give guidance to all these confused Japanese. To anyone whose willing to read, let me drop this here as a Muslim. In Islam, we believe this short life we live on Earth is a test from Allah (God). It's a test for the believers, to determine whether we will end up in heaven or hell. Allah (God) created us for the purpose of obeying Him. Allah does not need us. If we believe in Him, obey His commands, then we will be rewarded in the afterlife. And if we don't? Allah is the Almighty, He doesn't need our prayers. He's the Most Powerful. He's the Creator. Allah doesn't lose anything if humans doesn't believe in Him. Life is short. The time you'll spend in the afterlife isn't 60,70 years. It's eternal. How about spend 6,7 minutes today to ask yourself, if I die today, what will happen to me? Not to my family and friends who I leave behind, but me. Will I go to heaven when I spend my entire life never fully believe in God? Will there be nothingness? What happened to the people who died all this time? If we really become nothing, then why bother to be a good person? Shouldn't we live any way we want? We'll die either way. Anyone who actually bothered to answer these questions in shaa Allah will find them in Islam. You are welcome
