to some international fans thinking that bts is not so big in korea..dont worry they r big enough😂actually 'the biggest' fandom-based boy band now after the bs&t era. i dont get why some ppl expect random korean publics like men in late 20s~30s to know what bts did that day..the fact that davids mom who is a professor and prob in her 50s knows bts& what they do is already impressing enough. my american professor doesnt even know who Drake is, and he knows nothing about winners of Grammys. thats usually how the 'non-fan' publics are. and k-army is still their biggest fan base. i-armies altogether r bigger but thats a group of hundreds of countries
@karlaatt7 жыл бұрын
* Apeach exactly! A random 20 year old or someone's mom in America won't know or care for someone like Shawn Mendes, who is really popular with the younger generation, unless they are invested in pop culture. So the same could go for bts, who tend to be more popular with the younger generation (although it is expanding a lot lately) who actually care for idols. Just the fact that everyone in the video at least knew who they were is a great achievement and something to be proud of especially when 70% of the korean general public couldn't care less for ANY idol group or kpop in general.

J Ci I have to admit that was one of the biggest things to shock me about the industry. Since when does music have an age? It just seemed so weird...
@rose-vg9uk7 жыл бұрын
Nahh it's cuz that's how K-pop works. Boy group K-pop in Korea is more about the face, the catchy beat and the single status than music, feeling and talent. That's why boy groups are stereotyped to be only for teenage girls. Its why idol rappers aren't considered real rappers. It's also why bts used to get hate for being hip-hop and were told they weren't "real hip-hop" despite creating and producing own music in the style of hip-hop (it was seen like they were kinda selling their image and not real). These groups really do have talent and depth in their music (especially BTS so if Korea isn't willing to recognize it then I'm glad America was) it's sad to see it go to waste

I remember being a fan of BTS back on November 2016. BTS was the very first kpop group or artist that I ever stan. I was so in them really quickly like for a month, a memorized all of their songs and facts about them. One time, on December 2016, I asked my Korean friend if he knows BTS. He said that BTS is not that famous in Korea. And a lot of Koreans, especially guy koreans, consider KPOP as Gaypop. (I asked another guy if he likes kpop and he said, "you mean gaypop?"). He also said that a lot of korean people look like bts members so there's nothing special in them. But now, he asked how did I know that bts will be big and will conquer the music industry in the whole world. I said it's just something that ARMYs do. We really believe in them 😭Before, the question is, "do you know bts?", now it's "YOU DON'T KNOW BTS????!!" I'm so proud of them 💞

"You're never prophet at home'' it doesn't matter if they're not famous in Korea because first of all most artist are not that famous in their countries until they hit the big STAGE and BTS connected more than thousands fans all around the world speaking of witch I'm from AFRICA and I'm so obsessed about them prove that their music is a real deal. And after their performance at the AMA, some minds will change let's continue to support great music and preserve the Dream. #fighting

although bts is huge in korea they're more popular internationally, that's been clear for a while. if it was bts/bighits priority to make them more popular there they would of pushed their promo more and made them do more interviews and variety shows, but we know that's not their style. bts have a huge fanbase internationally i think we should celebrate that more than worry about their popularity there

so after all of the wars and all, I conclude that in the comment section i find nothing but the thing "BTS isn't popular in their own country " .... let it be , it doesnt matter which country has more ARMYs or which one doesnt have .. Globalisation connects us to everything around the world... I stan BTS for multiple reason and i care less if anyone hates on them or love them ... They make music and i enjoy their music which is at the very end a job of an idol ... p.s:- those who want to start a fanware with me , u r welcome ..

general public doesn't keep up with pop that much I mean when groups make a hit song , that will be the only time they will be relevant for the GP. For example , Winner really went big in Korea since 'Really Really' was played everywhere in South Korea. I think out of top boygroups , the general public knows each and every member will be Bigbang. BTS is really popular internationally but I think, locally EXO surpasses them. But bigbang is still on top of this two groups. It's the status for now, but it'll change in the future since Bighit seems to have good marketing strategies and really give bangtan the attention they deserve from the company
@xilyforeverr7 жыл бұрын
YES thank you for being a voice of reason. Although people might say BigBang isn't as "relevant" anymore today, as in they are not talked about as much as before, but I'd argue they are still the most widely known group in Korea and have made a legendary impact on formation & growth of the Kpop industry that I think will be hard for any other group to top.
@소중한-h6g7 жыл бұрын
Connie Zheng I agree. And the fact is every single member works good as individuals not just by being in 'bigbang' is really something not other groups can easily be. When you walk in streets in South Korea and ask about bigbang , they know about their songs and their members as well until now even ahjummas which explains bigbang really had huge impact in south Korea. Internationally too, I can say Bigbang is still a huge name.
@kartinisumbaga98227 жыл бұрын
Maybe in these 2 years we can see the real competition between BTS and EXO because BIGBANG will completely hiatus ,and see how well their music can grab GP attention in korea.
@karlaatt7 жыл бұрын
긴못생 honestly though when you look at when Big Bang debuted it makes sense on why they're so well known in korea. They came out when the idol industry was lacking "hip hop" boy groups which was new for korea at the time and there weren't 100 other nugu boy groups competing with them like there are now. They also debuted at a time when all of the 20-30 year olds were young and could actually care about idol groups. They've also debuted in numerous amounts of subunits and solos. Now that that generation has grown and make up a good amount of the population it makes sense on why they're so well known to the gp. Correct me if I'm wrong but the younger generation doesn't really care for them anymore which makes sense because they haven't put out anything and aren't as young. Now that the younger and newer generation is into newer idols they care more for groups like bts and exo who are really well known within their generation and it's kind of hard to NOT know who they are because of that. This is long but what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't really make sense to compare bb to bts considering their time of popularity and the fact that bb have been around for 10+ years and korea in a sense has grown with them. Like you said it's pretty obvious that exo are more well known because with the power of their company they've been able to get easier acting gigs, cfs, have a sub unit, and overall more exposure to the gp because of that. So only time will tell on who is able to increase their popularity and truly make it to the top like bb have been able to during their career instead of staying steady for years and possibly doing worse. shit this is really long LMAO but I hope you get my point

You guys shouldn't expect every Korean to know this kind of stuff. From the looks of it, a really decent amount of people heard what happened. Do you guys know every single popular enough artist in your countries and also know their latest achievements? Yes, it's huge news for Korean entertainment and it's unique, but, even so, not everyone is going to be paying attention. I live in America and didn't watch the AMAs and still don't know who won what, just BTS's related stuff because I love them. I don't think I've ever even heard of some of the nominated artists cause my fave genre is prog. rock and I don't pay attention to their genre of music for the most part. Same goes for Koreans who don't like Kpop. For a lot of those kinds of people to know about what happened is a great achievement; don't be sad because there are those who are unaware. That's just the nature of things.

Also BTS who broke the barriers with international fame, will have more bigger and matured,teenagers fanbase in South Korea after 3,4 years. I would say that they fact that they all at least knew them says that they are pretty well known there. These particular people just weren't their fans so they don't keep up with them as much per se. Honestly, who cares about the arguments about who the "biggest" group in Korea rn. What I know for sure is that BTS has the biggest impact on kpop this year. No Asian group has ever performed on the AMAs and as an Asian I'm really proud of it. Go downplay the AMAs and their achievements as you antis like but your opinions will NEVER change the fact that BTS are doing great and will do even greater on their next comeback. Anyways thanks dkdktv for doing this. I appreciate it!

That was funny and good to see, and its not just korea sometimes artists fail to get recognised as much from home as they do abroad, look at current idol alot after years are still struggling. Look at sf9 put in some latin then WHAM you get overseas attention, BTS put in different music with blood sweat & tears and WHAT overseas attention. Granted they had it before that but it can be a struggle to get recognition from home, sometimes if you focus on overseas it will have a rippling affect back home even more.

I think most korean right now at least know about them. Its just they may dont know how much significance impact of bts toward kpop and korean in general. If someone in korea that always alert with news, they would know. If they keep up with western media, they would know much better. As western media keep releasing article about them. Especially in depth one.

Are people actually complaining? I think most of them knew bts was on an american award show. Y'all cant expect every single person in the world or every korean person living in korea to know about that xD Thank you david and danny!

This is good to show that like everyone else people in Korea don't know everything about their main/international music and don't have too.
