I would LOVE to see you go over saddle leather and saddle manufacturing. I own a few high-end, veg tanned French saddles and would love to know more about the "calf" vs "buffalo" leathers and how to actually care for them -- the manufacturer sends the saddles with care products, but curious as to other options.

Well, how about cracking leather on boots? At the points, where leather in your boot is working (stretching, etc), oils tend to be extracted. You need to make sure that those boots get some sort of care. First of all to look better, second to prevent from cracking (oils make leather softer, which make it less prone to cracks in those places).

Yes, we were taught to clean out leather boots dry them and dress them with shoe polish, to preserve the look and the structure. I might😢 have my leather boots somewhere in the attic, if the mice didn't eat them. They were really nice.

I would really like to know what kind of leather my Coach Lana 25 bag is. I can’t find it anywhere and would really like to know!!
@no1bratnaustinАй бұрын
I have the same bag. Since it’s treated like he mentioned. All you really need to do is wipe with a microfiber cloth. If you have a spot you can moisten the towel a little to wipe it off

Lets say we do have a vegetable tan leather we've purchased to make something out of. You had a lot of products on your desk, which of them do you recommend to protect it and keep it from drying/cracking/aging poorly?

I'm curious too

For vegtan? Neatsfoot oil and/or mink oil are tried and tested. But you can also get ready made products such as leather honey or Saphir Creme universelle or Fiebing’s Aussie Conditioner. And if you want waterproofing you can use Saphir Everest dubbin. Basically: liquids/oils for deep nourishment, paste like products such as greases and dubbins for more top layer nourishment, waxes for shine and waterproofing. But don’t overdo it, too much of anything can leave the vegtan with undesirable characteristics such as stickiness or leeching oil onto whatever it touches. If in doubt use less than you think you need. You can always apply more but taking out takes effort and time. A little will usually go a long way.

I live in the tropics with very high humidity. Any tips on how to prevent mold on leather?
@babycakes84345 ай бұрын
Probably electric dehumidifier would help. You could run it in closed space or room so your item can dry in less humidity. I have never thought about this problem but i can see it now.

I have what is described as a top grain full aniline leather hand tanned. 12 layers of wax applied and polished to the hide. Thats the description from RH the manufactured of my sofa. After 6 months of use I can see in certain areas of the seat the waxy finish is gone and its more matte and absorbent. I actually prefer the look and feel of that area more now in its current state. However as more wear and usage I could see that changing. Also I have a dog and dont want his moisture from his nose or tongue to cause damage. Do I need to condition that area or the entire sofa like the manufacturer suggested? Cleaning and other advice? Also some small scratches here and there. Do I just buff those out if I wanted to?

What about high end shoes? Those are made with full grain leather. Don't I need to keep those moisturized and cared for?

How about pigmented finish chrome tan leather? From what I read, conditioner shouldn't be able to, or at least have difficulty, penetrating the pigment layer. But from my own experience, I do feel some different after apply the conditioner or mink oil on this type of leather.

So with a thrusday Terracotta full grain boots 🥾 I don’t need to apply ANY products at all? Because you say “ as long as you use YOUR PRODUCTS “ but I don’t have bought any 😅 0:49

Hi Tanner, love the content on your videos! I was wondering if dress shoe leather insoles & linings (vegetable-tanned) need to be conditioned? If so, which products to use? I’ve heard that Saphir sole guard would be beneficial but am looking forward to your thoughts.

Hi, I know this is an older video but does anybody have advice for taking care of vintage leather? Many of the jackets and belts I see in vintage shops are very stiff. More importantly, I have my grandfather's old leather jacket from the air force and it's relatively stiff now. I don't trust the clickbait articles trying to sell me products, I just want to preserve one of the last things I have from him and keep wearing it in the winter.
@kagitsune11 ай бұрын
Hello, I hope that you still have the jacket! Trenton and Heath have lots of good videos on leather care and restoration. They mostly do shoes but a lot of the basic steps are still applicable. You might just need to clean and condition it :)

I was just reading about Pecard Leather Dressing that it helps in those hopeless cases. Apply without moving the item too much and leave it on to rehydrate. There is a whole article about it online I believe, but I don't remember the website now. I can check it for you if you want.
