Benj, I’m shooting with X2D and love it. Putting Noctilux, Summilux and Summicron glass on it taught me how fun a real EVF with magnification can be with manual focus and great glass. Using the 24x36 crop yields similar results to shooting with SL3, but with those amazing Hasselblad colors. Thanks for this video.

glad you are touching on this in depth. I am a Leica M user and have 3 M lenses, with the price of the M body now shy of $10K, the hasselblad medium format bodies seem to be a very attractive camera. But I still want to use my leica M glass and being medium format and all that, you know you will have issues but I see those issues are not so bad. Another reason I want to use my M glass is for the looks of the actual lens, they are beautiful and it has to look good, I think the Hasselblad looks amazing and I love their vintage silver chrome lenses and SLR bodies too! Those vintage lenses have that taper look just like how the M lenses and other FF lenses with adapters look on the hasselblad. We know these FF lenses are darn sharp as well and will do justice to the 100MP sensor of the HB. I also have a canon 50 mm f0.95 lens that will look great on the hasselbald. Hopefully these lenses have big enough image circles to almost cover medium format area. wouldn't it be great if a full frame body in this design was made by hasselbald.

Great video Benj! I have the 50 MP version of that camera and am thinking of trying it with some old Mamiya 645 lenses if I can find an adapter. Of course it would cover the sensor with room to spare. I own the Mamiya 80 1.9 amoung others in my 645 kit and I think that would be a super nice combo.
@fibonacho3 ай бұрын
Thanks for explaining the slow read time of the sensor at 3:06. I noticed it in some other images and was confused because it looked sorta like a rolling shutter effect but I knew the lenses' have their own shutters.

Yes, yes and yes. OK, quick start, 50mm Sonnars cover the entire 44x33 sensor. I have a very nice J8 and the Skyllaney Bertele Sonnar which shine on my X2D. The HB sensor is a better sensor than my M8.2, M9, M240 sensor, period. I have a very nice Cooke Amotal that must be cropped to 24x36 in camera but just shines also. I have an old '43 CZJ 5cm f/1.5 I have to try. But in short, the HB will make those LTM and M body lenses look better than a Leica will. And you are right, the V series HB lenses do win the race or great images, but without some of the retro magic. Great video as usual. Thanks.

They do, but you are so much better sticking them on a Fuji GFX due to the focal plane shutter - I believe the Fuji GFX50r is a cheap M

Enjoyed the video; gave me a lot to consider. One question: I assume everything you mentioned about adapting Leica glass similarly applies to use with the X2D, including using the same adaptor hardware?

Correct. They’re the same mount. Only difference would be that the X2D has IBIS which will greatly help for static scenes.

@slk17713 ай бұрын
Seems materially similar (if not identical) to how large format shutters function: housing a leaf while providing the mount. I know intrepid is currently working on an electronically controlled Copal 0 so the time for leaf mounts might be coming soon. Could be very interesting.

Why the 907x over the X2D?
@benjhaisch3 ай бұрын
I love the form factor and experience. I don’t use it on my 500cm that much but I do love having that as an option as well. The X2D is a technically superior camera but the 907X just has that extra bit of soul to it.

Have the X2D and the 55mm XCD, but looking for a lens with more character. Thoughts between the Thypoch 50mm f/2 vs the Thypoch 50mm f/1.4 on the X2D sensor? Both look great. The f/1.4 looks better for: faster aperture, no infinity lock, closer focusing, ability to use my 49mm filters, and black color matches X2D. F/2 looks better for smaller size and weight. If their "character" is very similar, I'll probably go for the f/1.4 (in fact I may have just talked myself into the 1.4 when I just listed out all the advantages...). On the other hand, I already have the 55v, so the Thypoch f/2 is more of a contrast to that lens, being 1/3 the weight and more of a "vintage" lens according to Thypoch's website. Would love any thoughts on whether the Thypoch f/2 provides any more "character" vs. the f/1.4. Thanks!
@benjhaisch3 ай бұрын
I think the difference in aperture going from 2 to 1.4 is going to be a more drastic difference to your existing 55/2.5V although, I might try to persuade you into a different focal length since you already have the 55V ;)
@petermendelson58393 ай бұрын
@@benjhaisch thanks! I am more of a wide angle shooter and may also try out the 28 Thypoch, although I have several wide angle XCD lenses including the tiny 28P and 25v. I am thinking a 50mm is where I may want more character in my lens since that's what I would use more for people shots vs landscape/urban where I usually look for more depth of field, but both could be fun.....

I have a sweet '57 Jupiter 8 that works very well. And some old Canon 50's, too. My adapter is a TTArtisan for ~US$100. I have had good luck with the old lenses and eBay has lots at good prices so go for it, or use what you have. The HB sensor is better than the Leica. I have some old 35's, too. Try them all and see what works and floats your boat. ;o)

@@zoltankaparthy9095thank you. I have the M lens adapter so just waiting for the lens to use with it! Just ordered the Thypoch 50mm 1.4 - I always loved the rendering of the Leica 50mm Summilux so if it comes close to that I will be happy indeed.
@petermendelson58393 ай бұрын
@@benjhaisch Got the f/1.4 and tried it for a few days. Might try the f/2 instead and am returning this lens. The 1.4 has hard, non-correctable vignetting in the corners and terrible purple fringing, and in the hand it wasn't much smaller than my 55v! (similar length and felt close to the same weight - it's just smaller in diameter). The Thypoch is impressively sharp, though. There is definitely a different color signature vs the 55v, and the dynamic range seems to be compressed a bit (I was looking for something different, so these things are not necessarily "bad."). I love very small lenses so maybe the f/2 will do the trick....and may provide an even more "vintage" look.
