Hello and welcome to the channel.
In today's video we are testing a couple of brushless ESC's very kindly donated to the channel for review by Banggood. We have a generic 60A and a massive 150A KK series Surpass Hobby ESC to play with. What effect will this have on the RC cars performance?

Nice! I have a couple 3S packs coming in today. I damaged the stock batteries messing with Goolrc ESCs. The truck is really fun for the money.

What a cool video! I love stuff like this 👌🏻 Just a word of warning, that 150amp ESC will not take 6s for long! They burn out mate. That was the ESC that came in the zd racing ex07 and pretty much all of them went up in smoke! Plus I put one in my hyper on 6s and it lasted less than 5 minutes 🙄 The thing about the amps is a tricky one, if you did exactly the same test but with a big fat 40 or 50mm can there would have definitely been a difference in speed, the motor will draw what it needs but the ESC can only give it what it's got of that makes sense. And the ESC will only have what it has depending on the lipos also. That small motor probably only needs 40-60amps. Amps will give you speed but only if your motor isn't getting enough in the first place. I could rattle on all day about it 🤣 Anyway I hope you do more vids like this mate! Very interesting stuff my mate 👍🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Hello! That's sort of what I was lead to believe, but I was hoping that a 540 can wouldn't have quite got what it needed from a 45A ESC to reach its 3300rpm / volt max. I was thinking about fitting a 3660 motor I have lying around and trying it. But ended up not changing it, and in hindsight I should have. May have seen a difference like you say. I was under the impression that the voltage dictates the theoretical rotation speed but it's the amps that gets it there. So it turns out that Surpass Hobby are spot on with this kit and you only need 45A. 👍😄👍

if an ESC cant deliver current a motor wants, acceleration is slower than its potential. old school brushed ESC's often had a current limiting dial, in some racing situations it was helpful. a good adjustable transmitter with exponential and endpoint controls for the throttle, as well as a programming card for a brushless ESC, can change how the response feels so you have more (or easier) control of when+how it'll hit. yes that little truck would have hit 50 mph, if power didn't hit all at once like a switch around half throttle. the other issue is obviously lack of down force help from the body, helps traction a lot.

Yes I've got expo and end point adjustments on the controller. Perhaps I could 'tone down' the surge at full throttle to a manageable level? Great advice as usual! 😄👍

youtube killed my comment reply button (aggravating!) YVMW yes you can do a lot with adjusting at the transmitter, if you need more fine tuning then ESC programming card time, is same stuff but being applied to the ESC itself with the power curve.. current limiting too for some, aka: how not to burn up an ESC.

You have broke the reply button!!! 😄I have a surpass hobby card but it doesn't feature many perameters. Don't know if the 'start condition' would tone things down any? 👍

Wow that really woke up on 4s, a larger pinion should help you from spinning out and give you a crazy top end speed.

Yes I bet it would. That road isn't the best, the surface is quite shiny. I go there out of lazyness really because it's five minutes walk from my house! Me and a mate of mine have found a very straight (almost) disused road. So that may be the next location. 👍😄👍

The KV limit is more in line for safety. The KV is nothing more about the limit of the motor. If you run a motor past it’s maximum revs, it will do something noisy and possibly stinky. I do wish manufacturers would list the motors maximum safe rpm and voltage.

You can pretty much eliminate the cogging issue by playing with the parameters set to strong with a programming card on the esc. I used a 120A 4S capable ESC i bought recently on my Zroad buggy and it ran like it was on rails. Check out my fairly recent video on my channel ZROAD HUNTER 1/12 Buggy Brushless Speed Run Test

Hello! The cogging was only really evident on the cheaper 60A ESC. I did try and plug in the Surpass hobby program card (because it looked like a bit of a copy) to see if I could alter anything but was having none of it. There was no cogging in either of the two Surpass ESC's (even the lower 45A one). And the vid was only really an experiment to see what effect if any more amps had on the performance. I will definitely check out your video, and at some point a top speed run at a better location is called for. Just to see what it will do. Thanks for dropping a comment!! 👍😄

@@theminiatureconstructionco4556 Yes unfortunately some brands or rebranded copies of these cheaper escs can cog while others work fine as you said. I have found that sometimes though (not always) that playing with the start up modes to strong or even soft punch on the card settings can help on some esc's. Thanks for stopping by my video and having a look also, cheers mate 🍻 Great tests, always fun testing these budget setups!
