I'm half northeastern, I donno abt other northeast state but honestly wid my experience Arunachal Pradesh people are racist to other states people. Not all of them but most of them are very racist and when they come out of their state and face racism they don't think abt wats happening inside their own state.... And if u ask me the reason behind racism is the skin-color, culture, curly hair, religion n lot more... I had been constantly bullied not only in 1 school but different schools in AP for who I am and from where I half belonged. It was long bck I thought it has stopped now but nah! My younger sibling is facing it... See! Everyone is superior in their own state. Whether it's northeast or any other state, but when I came to south India, even tho they tease me for my northeastern look they still accept me for who I am , I never felt left out.

Northeast parts were independent most of the time in history. There were only two Indian empires could conquer them. The king Ashoka's Mauryan empire and Gupta empire.The Mughal empire attempted to invade them many times but failed. Burmese empires occupied the northeast two times. The Toungoo empire in 16th century and the Konbaung in 1817. After first Anglo Burmese war 1824, the Burmese lost Assam, Manipur, Arakan(Rakhine) and Tanintharyi to the British. In 1885, the Burmese kingdom was toppled by the British and Burma became a province of British raj. Majority northeast people are Tai Kadai tribe from the Yunnan. Tai Kadai tribes settled in the Northeast India, upper Myanmar, Lao and Thailand. Other ethnic groups that live in the region are Tibeto-Burman tribes. They have nothing to do with the Indian by blood. They were still free from the Indian Conquerors until the British came in. It was the British that forced them to be parts of India. There are some rebel groups fighting againts the Indian government for their independence. However they are officially Indian territory.

If only you were a native of the NE, then you would understand why many of the Northeasterners do not consider themselves as an "Indian". Read up on the insurgency problems in the 1960-80 and you'll get some of the context. Northeast parts were independent most of the time in history. There were only two Indian empires could conquer them. The king Ashoka's Mauryan empire and Gupta empire.The Mughal empire attempted to invade them many times but failed. Burmese empires occupied the northeast two times. The Toungoo empire in 16th century and the Konbaung in 1817. After first Anglo Burmese war 1824, the Burmese lost Assam, Manipur, Arakan(Rakhine) and Tanintharyi to the British. In 1885, the Burmese kingdom was toppled by the British and Burma became a province of British raj. Majority northeast people are Tai Kadai tribe from the Yunnan. Tai Kadai tribes settled in the Northeast India, upper Myanmar, Lao and Thailand. Other ethnic groups that live in the region are Tibeto-Burman tribes. They have nothing to do with the Indian by blood. They were still free from the Indian Conquerors until the British came in. It was the British that forced them to be parts of India. There are some rebel groups fighting againts the Indian government for their independence. However they are officially Indian territory.

By that logic Pakistan and Bangladesh would still be India and the Lakshadweep Islands would not be Indian. Also, each Indian state has its own identity. Punjab is vastly different from Kashmir, Kashmir is vastly different from Ladakh, Ladakh is vastly different from TN, TN is quite different from Telangana, Kerala is different from most Indian states, so is Goa. And the same goes for NE India. Each state is pretty much a country on its own if we consider the ethnicity and languages spoken. The entire idea of India however is unity in diversity. We don't have a state religion like Pakistan, we are a secular nation (and that is never going to change, no matter how hard some Hindu nationalists or Jihadis try). The second guy is probably from the Rambuai era. Mizoram was never a part of India but fell under British rule. After the British left, Mizoram was suddenly a part of India and under the rule of India. The Mizos then fought for freedom and independence. It was a losing battle cause there was a great difference in arms. The Indian soldiers used to rape women and mass slaughter people and did terrible things and that left a huge impact in the mindsets of the Mizos. Hence people often don't like to be called an Indian and be associated again with those terrible dark time and would rather call themselves Mizo

Indian is not an ethnicity, it's at best a form of territorial nationalism. Maybe if India remains as it is for several centuries then there might come up an Indian ethnic identity if people constantly keep getting mixed I am an Indian citizen (don't have the strength to fight the Indian system) but my nationalistic feelings are only restricted to the Assamese and other Northeasterns.. we must remember one thing, India is a British creation. Malayali, Punjabi and Mizo are different people group. Had the Britishers never arrived we would all have remained separate countries

I have always considered myself to be Indian. At college, I came to the mainland for further studies and realised how many people , even my own professors were not aware there were people with features like us residing in their country. Almost all of them believed I was a foreigner. I was shocked. As a child, I was taught about the geography of India and its many states and different cultures. I thought it would’ve been the same for everyone but many of the people weren’t aware of the state I came from and even questioned whether I really was Indian. There are times I get the occasional stares and get called “chinky” “momo” and all kinds of different names. But I’ve also met amazing people who have accepted me as I am and even took time to learn my culture and language. Throughout my experiences, I can honestly say not everyone is the same. Ever since then, I’ve tried to focus more on the positivity and less towards the negativity 😊

I am from Kerala, and I cannot differentiate people of North east from people of Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia or Bhutan. ( From their look ) In the same way a typical Keralites looks so much similar to the people of Srilanka. But the moment I get to know that they are from the North eastern states, I respect them like my own brothers or sisters. My dream is to visit north eastern states, and enjoy the beauty of their geography and the rich culture. If only you were a native of the NE, then you would understand why many of the Northeasterners do not consider themselves as an "Indian". Read up on the insurgency problems in the 1960-80 and you'll get some of the context. The Indian Army and The Indian Government has been alienating the indigenous peoples of NE and has been killing their people, taking over their land, burning their houses and Churches ever since. You would never consider yourself as an Indian if you knew you lived under a tyrannical government who doesn't care about you or your people.

@☞ོ☜ོ 66 years ago I went to Meghalaya and Sikkim. They were beautiful. In Sikkim there was literally zero littering. Cabs have waste collection pouches. I can’t speak for all north eastern states but these two states were really good. Gangtok is my favourite town in all of India…
