The 2018 Camaro V6 with the newer more powerful V6 did it in 13.8 according to the same magazine. Ultimately unless you’re going to the track or street racing, the V8 would still be more fun even if slightly slower due to the noise alone.....but it’s still actually faster anyways.

Steven Brown Back in the '60's/'70's era, a muscle car was defined as a vehicle with 13# or less, of body weight, for each horsepower. I'm unaware of that definition having changed. Therefore, multiply your engine net horsepower output by 13. If the answer is a weight higher than your car weight, and especially if that weight includes the drivers weight too, then you are driving a musclecar.
@1redrubberball6 жыл бұрын

R/T Life as RTL said, a few mods and they aint sleepy. Our assistant Chief picked up one of our DETECTIVE Chargers, front push bar, LED HiPo spot light, a 2016 model with 27,000 miles or so for $8,500...haha. He swapped the 5.7L into his old 60s dodge pickup, and it MOVES. He picked up a hellcat motorset earlier this month from Cleveland, his rt will get 6pt front brakes, dual 4pt (quad rear brakes), new updated front rt fender with cut pass throughs. Hellcat oem hood. Rear seats werent included in his vehicle so hes looking on craigslist for those, he has forged weds wheels waiting. Hes going to add blistered flarings like demons and wb challengers have, he actually watched rtl page and is blacking his tails as well. Law Enforcement LEDs are gone, but sequential box that breaks up brake lighting pattern will "pulse" L or R depending on blinker like our squad cars do when engaged. Hes not looking to race anybody, but he does enjoy going fast. He took my demon and my wifes trackhawk out, and he decided to embark on this build. Funny old timer. Challengers look nice, but I guess I just love chargers because of what I drove for many years on duty haha. When a refresh finally comes, I hope they dont butter ball the charger and chally. Theres no real affordable 4dr rwd v8 like the rt. As for fast and blasting doors, theyre fast enough. Im not into "one light stands", I grew up pre y2k in Japan, I was drifting before bondo and altezza lights were a thing, before fast and furious even came out haha. I prefer tactical prec driving now adays, think ken block gymkhana. Not to keen on camaro or mustangs, i have plate carrier, rifles, other gear for duty. I also have kids, charger has been PERFECT. Chally? Not so much. Our demons in CA, AZ, TX, TN, and in Virginia just sit. Admittedly purchased for posterity haha. After I left civilian LE and went FEDERAL I realized I am old. And romping can be fun, or spirited driving where legal. Ill never get over a hellcat back in '15 stock, racing a modded up EVO, slammed into a minivan and a mom and group of kids headed to DQ after a game...so fast enough is a relative term I coin. Many dont have exp or developed there of to handle anything even in rt, ss, etc stock from factory.

You make decent points, however, for those people who just want the V8 growl without the V8 price, necessarily, this is a good jump from the V6 Challengers. The 392 is a good motor, but remember, the Hellcat motor was the bore of the 6.4L with the stroke of the 5.7L, so this isn't a bad engine either. It's a very well modded engine, and like you said, possibly underrated, and is one of the cheapest entry level V8's in the market. The 392 is more of a "ready-to-race" package, the 345 is the modder's package.

If I drive it like I stole it it will outrun anyone that isn't crazy enough to be willing to go to jail. If you don't have the Deamon you don't have the big dog anyway, so why pay more. If you have a GT mustang but not the shelby 350 it's the same argument. As is the ss camero compared to the Z l 1.I have learned over the years to be satisfied because there's always bigger and better. I just want to look good sound good and have decent power. My RT fills all that and more. Just as a final comment. 2,500 for a replacement 5.7 engine compared to 7,000 for a 392. What is only 100hp worth when you're still not even close to a 840hp Demon. Just a cam swap and headers will fix any power problem against a 392. and will sound better. Again if you manage to blow it up. 2,500 dollars not 7,000.

2016 R/T It did hurt when I flew passed you didn't it? What I find when it comes to muscle cars, its not so much what engine you're packing, with cars this fast, it comes down to how far and how fast you are willing to go. I have dusted RT's and even SRT's. I have slaughtered my fellow brothers one by one. I made that V6 roar, being lighter means faster entry and exits in corners. 0-60 in 5 seconds. Factory rated it at 5.7. But I had it flat. It comes down to how you command the beast. There are trade offs with a V6 vs V8. Yes you may be able to go in a straight line faster, but I guarantee Ill make up all the time I need on a track with lesser hardware or even catch up period once the wheels have moved passed 100. Ive driven all classes of Challenger except the Demon. I feel very little difference in any of them. They just get louder and have higher top speeds, but if you cant get to those speeds or have the balls to get there while I do. Its entirely possible to get dummied by an SXT if the guy can drive. No one has ever asked me about my decision on why I chose an SXT. Mainly because Im the only one I know in a muscle car period. The people I know cant afford it. Now I get to buy a new Challenger since somebody destroyed mine last week in a hit and run while I was inside my house. I think Ill go SXT again. They are fucking amazing on gas. Way better than I could have ever expected and have got a victory over a corvette to boot. That was one tense epic battle that nearly ended in twisted metal, but the forces of V6 prevailed that day #TrackDays

Andre Landry I test drove the V6 first before I drove R/T and SRT and all I gotta say is the V6 was still fast enough to almost break my neck when I first tapped the accelerator, wasn't expecting the car to be that fast. Differences as I went up the chain were marginal. SRT felt least like a boat. But still rocked side to side going into turns fast.

I will say this the Challenger have the most model options out there from basic and GT to extreme Demon. There is a model for pretty much everyone. Dodge seems to get it why can't Ford and GM bring back the lineup like a competitor to the Trackhawk or Buick comes out with the Grand National. Just make exciting cars again. We need Pontiac back!!!

Exactly. RT's and above are nice, but for some reason we have these narrow minded idiots who trash talk people with V6 Challengers and Camaros because they're not V8s. All the while these same people may drive a run down Cavalier or they may not drive at all. There are also the others' who do in fact want and have the money for something above the SXT's and may trash talk, but that's another type of person that annoys me all together. Right now, I'm 18 with a G2 and on my first car, a 2012 Nissan Versa sedan. Right now, a decent Challengers is the goal, I'm just worried that FCA is going to redesign the Challenger and make it ugly before I can afford a new one. I'll add this: An SXT makes 3x more horsepower than my car right now, therfore I'd be pleased with it. Haha.

Some good points. They do launch pretty hard with the new 8 speed. But my friend has a 17 r/t and he cannot keep up with me on the highway. I have a vw GTI 1.8t. In his defense my car is modified and I've been tweaking on it for a good while. Larger turbo, injectors, intercooler, several different tunes, exhausts everything. And at 2850 lbs it has a serious weight advantage. When I drive his r/t I was pretty surprised how high it sat off the ground. Almost like a 2wd pickup.

@mjm523726 жыл бұрын
I have a Charger but I'm going to chime in on this R/T topic anyway. We're all in the same family. The number one reason I got an R/T over a Scat is because I have a 2014 and wayyyy back then 😂, they offered it in AWD. They don't offer the AWD anymore in anything above a V6 and they never offered it with a 392. So they have more power than me in the long run but when I line up against a Scat Pack, while they're spinning their tires, I'm gone. As for V6 Mustangs and Camaros, I'm not sure what mods the ones you've raced have had but I've never had one of those things even come close to hanging with me. The 5.0 and SS will smoke me for sure but I can live with that. Put a little rain on the ground and they sit in place spinning tires. Put a little snow on the ground and their car is in a garage somewhere or creeping along like a granny. Yeah, I'm good with my slightly underpowered R/T. The AWD it has makes it an all around better car.

Same here Ron. I have 2016 SRT 392 (I'm sitting in it in my pic) that I run M/T's on. The stock Pirelli's I bought with it are garbage. I bought it off of the showroom floor at my dealership and the first thing I asked was do different tires come with that? Nope. Anyway, I have no trouble with the Mustangs. The Camaro's do a little bit better, but still no issues with getting them either. I'm normally challenged by kids driving rice mobiles. But that's just cause they want to see me get on it and take off.

Well, that’s what mods are for! I bought a rt shaker 345 2016, and with mods I got my 0-60 time from 5.0 to 4.3. Mods spent were around 2K, mid muffler delete, high flow cats, long tubes, and sports tune brought me up to 400whp, and a 0-60 of 4.6, but what really decreased the time was when I spent time reducing weight, which is actually easier than you think and requires little labor. When it comes to weight reduction, carbon fiber is you best friend. I’ve reduced about 200-250lbs in my challenger by: getting rid of resonators and cats, carbon fiber hood, removed spare tire and truck liner, replaced front seats with sparco racing seats, replaced almost all of my interior body panels (doors) with carbon fiber ones, and carbon fiber hellcat rims. This brought my 0-60 to 4.3, and I’m now side by side with 392s on the highway. I’d recommend using my mod list if you’re considering the 392 but don’t have that much money Edit: traded the rt for a 2016 scatpack Challenger (manual)
@Clutched3924 жыл бұрын
Brayan Carmona the scat pack is better to do mods to than the srt 392. Same car except the scat pack is cheaper and tbh the scat pack logo and history behind the scat pack is a lot more cooler and interesting than “srt”. Also the srt 392 comes a little bit slower from factory than the scat pack because it weighs more. From my experience of modding a scat pack compared to my friends 392, modding a scat pack is easier

I've NEVER been asked why I didn't buy an SRT8. Ooops, I bought 2 of them lol. All jokes aside, I've sold both of my SRT8's, and I very happy with my decision. I now own a 2018 Dodge Charger Super Track Pack V6, with F8 Green color. I also have a 2018 Chrysler 300s that's a 5.7L with Mopar Stage 1, and it's quick enough. A lot of people make the mistake of buying a car to impress the other guy, instead of buy what makes them happy. I've got a video about to come out on my Charger again, and it's super nice. I don't care if it's not a V8, because I'm not trying to race it. BUT if I did,, I can easily beat a V8 with the addition of a super charger on my V6. Easy. Been doing cars for a LONG time, and so many people are buying these SRT8's, Demons, and Hellcats for all the wrong reasons. To impress the other guy.

I've owned 2 challenger RTs, one 2014 manual 6-speed and 1 automatic 2016 5.7 Shaker, along with a 2017 Mustang GT, he is correct in they are much slower than a GT (especially the 2018 GT), but I miss those cars, the Mustang is a better performer, but the Challenger was a great cruising, comfortable car, not fast, but with a couple of cheap mods, was pretty quick and no car has a better presence on the road. There is always going to be someone with a faster car tho, no matter what you get.
@kcb556 жыл бұрын
Looking into getting one, would you recommend the auto or the 6-speed?? I drive 35 miles (mostly highway) each way to work. I really love the mustangs but I'm 6'3 and not exactly thin.
@powerboatguy23086 жыл бұрын
Well, I've owned both: The pros for the 5.7 Challenger is the storage, the command of the road you feel and a little more comfortable cruiser, the con is it is much slower than the Mustang. The Mustang is more connected to the road, a little more fun to drive and of course faster. I'm 6'3' myself and 260 pounds, I fit ok in the Mustang, but the backseats are pretty useless unless you are hauling 4 year olds.
@powerboatguy23086 жыл бұрын
I would get the 6-speed in either car if you are not in stop and go traffic-
@Hazardhemi2 жыл бұрын
Why I got a 5.7 bc it’s a lot of room to upgrade and a few simple mods can be as fast as a scat pack. Plus it’s cheaper on insurance. Gasoline. You can add a pro charger and you be a lot faster then a scat pack. You be more in the lines of a hell cat power

I completely agree. I’ve got the 5.7 6 speed. It’s all great in the beginning, but soon you realize it only competes with V6. Even the 5.0 displacement is better suited for the cars curb weight. Finally a Dodge owner that admits where the R/T actually stands in comparison to other muscle cars. I used to have a 2015 Mustang 3.7 which was slightly modded with only an exhaust, CAI, and throttle body spacer, and I outran many R/T Challengers and Chargers. Their power to weight ratio just puts them at a big disadvantage. I know the Dodge guys won't agree with me, but unless it has a supercharger in it then it can't compare with the Camaros or Mustangs in its class.

A base charger RT or challenger RT depreciates fast. Granted all cars depreciate, however you can buy the same model one or two years old for half of the MSRP, and still have a warranty. These V6 on the road are impressive.
