Ive had one for 5 years now and its always worked perfectly in South Florida salt water environment. My battery is now end of life...they have a limited lifetime.. I love the radio...it gets used weekly.

Had the same issue as you! Was about to take it back and then i looked at everything again... do as follows: take batt out and clean terminals. then reinsert the battery but do not tighten the screw all the way.. do it until the radio fits in the charger. Got mine to charge as normal. Not a radio issue its a design with the charger it self.

I've had the Cobra HH500 for 3 years now and it's still perfectly OK. I only had to replace the charging dock once because one of the contacts was bent. Big deal... I got a new one without questions being asked. I am now looking for a fixed mount VHF and my preferred brand will be...Cobra!

I have had the exact same radio for over three years. It still works as it should. The screw on mine is stainless steel.
@curtagain Жыл бұрын
sure if you thought of this, but does the manual mention rinsing with clean water after use ? I just know salt water if not rinsed gums up the works eventually.

Why not return it to Cobra? These radios have a three year warranty, I returned mine twice and got free, brand new replacements.

I just purchased the Cobra MR HH600FLTGPSBT. The only flaw I've noticed , and it may just be something over looked from quality control , is the spare alkaline battery case only has 2 contacts instead of 4 like the rechargeable battery it came with. Needless to say the radio doesn't work when I use the alkaline battery holder
@albanpocesta93453 жыл бұрын
Hey do you still have the MR HH600 if so how is it holding up?
@MalyonsMedia4 жыл бұрын
Hi I have a Cobra Radio that behaved in exactly the same way, but all it needed was the batteries changed (5 AAA) since when its worked perfectly.. Have you tried this? It may well be the same problem, especially with intermittent use and particularly if you leave it discharged Gilbert

Vhf radios from icom used to last 20 years easy even the battery. What's happening with equipment nowadays. They are built cheap and nasty. A market opportunity to make a solid long lasting vhf.

I have a cobra mr hh125 and love it and have it on my kayak. Yes I know it's not 100% waterproof but that's fine. So planning on buying a second one for a friend or family member to contact me while out on kayak and they are at the docks. So I think it's great to have and if not in use just throw it in a water tight dry box that floats and your good to go.

I have the HH500 and that screw is rusted on mine. It also didn't charge but I fixed that. I noticed that when I charged it the light would go green as soon as I plugged it in.(full charge) but when I went to pull it out of the charger the light would go red (charging) while I was removing it from the base. so I made a shim out of some paper to raise the radio some, Now it will charge. I got it because it has blue-tooth and can link to my phone. When this one dies I will be switching to another brand too. Mine is still under warrantee, I emailed Cobra and we will see what they are willing do about it

I just had the same charging problem for the first time (bought Sept. '14). The radio has always worked when I needed it (I always keep it on the charger) and always showed full charge. However, for a while I had noticed that the charger was not turning red to show charging was occurring when I used the radio and returned it to the charger. I didn't remember if it should turn from green to red. Finally, I used it today again (after using it a lot over the weekend) and it beeped while I was on the water indicating the battery was nearly dead. So, I looked at the manual to confirm the charger should turn red when charging. I normally keep the belt clip off since I place the radio in a holder on my boat. I think the belt clip is needed to be in place when you place the radio on the charger (to get the height correct to match the charger prongs and radio battery charge spots. It is now charging so I'll ned to confirm this, or use a wedge under the radio as Jeff did (see his observation). Anyway, I think I figured it out..... I first thought I might need to buy a new battery (about $20 on Cobra web site). Even if I ultimately need to do that, it is better than buying a new radio.

Just so you know you can split the back of the battery box and use lithium AA's, I got mine for £25 with the dock because of this simple battery change and its better then new ( more capacity )

This video is wrong, or you got a bad one from the batch. I have two of these, and have experienced no problems. In fact, this is the best radio I've had. I beat the crap out of it, and it keeps working. Battery holds a charge forever. No rusty screw on the back. What often fails on these is the spring for the belt clip, and even that is stainless (although the post is not, and it is rusted). I do have to replace the antenna, but thats about it. You should just ask them to replace yours.

This is no review nor a conclusion to one. To title this radio like this is both premature and grade school. Clearly every manufacturer has issues and so, warranties are given. Perhaps you should finish such a review by issuing a claim under your 3 year warranty and see if in fact Cobra corrects your concerns. To solve a problem is part of every day life and non of us are perfect.
