Do not buy Crimestopper Coolstart Remote Starts!

TL;DR: Don't waste your money on these cheap remote starts as you'll have nothing but problems.
Save your money and do not buy Coolstart Remote Start systems! I've had two of them fail to work right out of the box with different issues. "Customer services" is a joke and won't pick up the phone anytime that you call them and won't return your calls; the only help they provide via email is to call them in which they won't answer. To remove the factor of not being properly installed, I took it to Best Buy (not my first choice, but no other shop in a 150 mile radius would touch Coolstarts) and had them give it a go. They concluded that the remote start will not talk to any bypass module that is connected to it no matter what and they could not install it. That's 2/2 modules that failed right out of the box. Not good odds if you ask me.. If anyone wants to give it a go, I'm selling both of these on eBay for parts..

I have one and it works great! Like mentioned before don’t ground the grey/hood wire, it only grounds out when the hood is open.

I tried not grounding it, then grounding it, and even disabling the hood switch in the remote start controller to no avail. Customer support had me try both of what I said and it did not work.

Have had 2 Crime stopper Sp 402 on different vehicles and all the functions work great. Sucks to hear your having issues.

Friend, what cable do I use as crimer stopper rsx g5 for my my by pass module 555uw in the vital I use white and blue but I don't know about crimer stoper

I got a 2000 ford ranger. Had the cool start “remote start”remote in console. I found it, looks like it was installed a long time ago, and worked at one time. But honestly idk. Idk if the previous owner ever got it too work or not, the buttons were all worn down, So I’ll assume it did at one time. All mine does is same thing flash the lights 2x. I tried a few different things . Followed instructions too the t. Ground/unground hood switch. Even got a newer 2 button remote, which I actually got too syncs too the module, but it doesn’t attempt too start it either. Imho, the sequences and instructions are a little too complicated. And there’s no way to really diagnose the module. I know fords have the transponder in the key, and the key needs too be near or in the ignition. But idk, I couldn’t get it too work yet either. Same issue.. 2x flashes after remote start attempt.. For now it works good for flashing my lights too find the truck. Or if it’s dark out in driveway I can flash the lights too see what’s goin on, Scare the car jackets away 😅lol

If the Grey wire sees ground the module will think the hood is open. No ground= hood closed Ground= hood open If you look at the hood pin switch body (threaded Metallic part) it is grounded to chassis ground when installed. The plastic pin has a male (gray wire connection) terminal on the bottom which makes connection to ground when it is NOT pressed (hood open) Via spring retention. When pressing against the spring (hood closed) there is no ground connection. I’ve installed 3 no problems whatsoever

yes, for programing a remote you want it grounded. the Issue is that it will not learn/program a remote even thou the hood (grey wire) is grounded... I have spent to much time, and $ on this POS. now i'm getting ready to remove it (it is a Pain In The A$$) and put one that I know will work. Its on a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 5.7l...

I have one of these i installed in my 2002 Acura MDX which is a glorified honda pilot. There is a sequence of how you plug it the wires to the remote start. Take the wire off of ground for the hood. It won't start ever with the hood wire grounded.

If you did not press and hold a little black button on your data box before you install the wires to it, then that might be the start of your problem sir. I had to learn that the hard way after 4 hours and trying to figure out why mine wouldn't work. I went back and read the directions and seen that I missed that one simple little process, once I did that, the truck started right up.

I hope this can help someone out, I had the same problem as what’s going on in the video, I emailed the company if they had any fixes and they said there is a recall on these units, the antenna was miss wired and the antenna, antenna wire and the unit had to be sent back, not all the wires you already connected. I don’t know why you were having trouble getting ahold of customer service because I got an email back within a few hours on a Sunday afternoon. I hope this can help someone, it’s not you or your wiring it’s just a recall.

I have the older rs-4 model. Worked fine till lately since the remotes buttons are worn out and dont reach as far. I just ordered the rs7-g5 version of this as its a direct swap.

Grrr hood switch it’s not supposed to be grounded unless it’s verifying that your hood is open with your hood closed it’s not grounded anymore

Been installing these for quite a long time (so long we were actually installing the Omega branded units) with zero combacks. While I might be on-board with one being faulty, it would be a near impossiblitly to have 2. The hood switch is designed to be grounded when the hood is opened. By grounding the hood switch wire, the remote start thinks the hood is opened, therefore, disabling the system. Not trying to insult by any means, however, if you installed it how the directions are layed out, there is a good chance you would not be so frustrated.

I just recently bought the Rs1-G5 Crimestopper Remote module for my 06 Gmc Sierra and i installed it my self with no issues. Try to check your wiring and maybe don't ground the hood pin gray wire i cut mine since i didn't use it and my truck starts and unlocks like usual hopefully you were able to sort it out man best of luck...

Did you program the bypass module ?...i would double check your connections made from immobilizer to bypass...also did you use data cable or wire to wire install...seems like installer error to me 🤷

Yes the bypass module was programmed and programmed correctly. It was hooked up wire to wire. All the wires are hooked up correctly. Both modules were defective from the store

That can be selected with the custom options. No matter what was chosen and if the hood was open or closed, the system did absolutely nothing.

Did you try the system after removing the grounded hood switch wire. If the system is telling you there is a problem with the hood switch maybe the system is I don't know... right. I do see programming options for a 14ga grey wire but nothing for the hood switch, only thing I've seen if you don't want to use it is to cap it off. If your insisting it can be programmed and should be grounded did you verify a good ground, what option did you choose? How did you select it?

Yes, I've tried after removing the hood switch wire with no result. Wire has been hooked up to multiple good grounds including the battery negative terminal. Options are selected with the red programming button and listening/counting to relay clicks and watching red led blink. 2nd system didn't have the issue with ground but had another issue.

Bypass and both remote starts were programmed off camera. Messed with grounding and ungrounding the hood switch which made absolutely no difference on both remote start boxes

i just want to use this for the shock sensor and the remote....stock alarm is fine..just want this as a silent alarm to alert me when iam in the house....will this get the job done

I'm not sure how you'd go about doing that.. this is meant to replace the stock alarm not exactly work with it. I'm not how you'd even set up the shock alarm as it's built into the unit, not a separate accessory

I'm really glad the Pilot is still in once piece after cutting all the wires. It's saddening spending hours on end doing a good job installing this when both products are defective.

No, I gave up the idea and sold one of the kits for parts on eBay and am currently selling the other kit for 1/5th the price that I bought it. After the headaches with the remote start install and products I'd rather start my car in the winter manually and painfree.

@@AleksUsovich you should not connect the hood pin switch cable to the ground, because when the hood is open the switch make a ground connection, and thats why the remote start wont work, i just installed mine without connecting the grey wire and works fine. only when the hood is open it grounds, and when hood is closed it cuts the ground, thats the safety

Pro tip here. Don't have messy wires. A wire nest like that=fire, entanglement, harder to work with, electrical shorts, etc. Second. Never run wire along any thing metal, or a pench point (like through the door jam) regardless of what the wires is. They sell wire loom, rubber insulator grommets, heat shrink, and wire clips for reasons. Run through the fire wall, seal it up. Bet that mess was a contributing factor. Finally. Electrical isn't easy, there's a ton of professional mechanics that refuse to do electrical work. Don't get frustrated with it, do it right the first time, and take your time. So often when doing electrical jobs and getting parts not working. It's a simple issue, that you're over looking because you're frustrated

When you buy something and try installing it, you lose your right to return it especially when you strip the wires and expose the wires. I'm not dishonest to try installing it then say that I changed my mind and try to return it. They were sold as is with the buyer knowing the exact issues they had
