Yea, that's a pretty accurate assessment I'd say lol. I was bothered by the insides of buildings being gone at the start but after a while I realised I didnt care that much. I mean, most houses and buildings in the older games had nothing in them anyway, although it was pretty cool in terms of immersion. I do actually like the streamlined style that they went for overall BUT, its still got a way to go. Thanks for watching!

Its why I think they simply didnt have the time and support to polish the game. I mean look at something like the Xenoblade Chronicles series, huge open worlds, voice acting and it runs well. A fine analysis on the whole, though I would draw a distinction between Game Freak and Nintendo. The former have repeatedly demonstrated that they lack the expertise to create a high performing AAA 3d game and they really need to hire additional talent, or co-develop with the core Nintendo studios. Either that, or go back to 2d! Games like Octopath are some of the most visually striking on the market.

Thank you very much for the praise. Yea, that's true actually. I should have probably separated Game Freak, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. You're right though, they dont seem to have the skill required to make these games work well. That said, I think its half that, and half the tight development pipeline. I also agree with getting more talent through the doors and/or co-developing. Octopath Traveller is a great example as well, its a Switch game that looks and runs great. Ive been playing pokemon for around the same time as you (im 30) and there is something that you briefly touched on that i agree with. The pokemon designs. I know im in the minority when it comes to this but the pokemon designs, especially after gen 3 seems to get worse and worse overtime, barring a few exceptions, and its for this reason that whenever i play these more recent entries i mainly only catch gen 1 pokemon and some gen 2's i dont even use the starter pokemon. As soon as my journey begins i would immediately ditch the starter pokemon as soon as i catch my first gen 1 and as a result, i would end up finishing the game only using a handful of pokemon because i simply do not like modern day pokemon designs. I mean, you have a pokemon thats just a bicycle, what's up with that?

The design got worse and worse and this is a fact. People try to gaslight by saying it is just "taste" but it is not. The artwork changed drastically. Fanmade Pokemon are looking way better than what we get today. Just watch it a little bit longer, he makes the Pokemon way better just by adding a little bit more detail to it and this is what the current Pokemon design is missing, DETAIL. As well as sharp edges to make it more unique by adding overall more detail to it. Flamigo is another example of how lazy the design is and even you brought it up as an example. There is actually a flamingo fanmade Pokemon from 2013 looking way better: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYaqpX6vf6-fisk It even has an evolution to it which makes it way more interesting. The type also makes way more sense being it Water/Flying type. There are so many good fanmade Pokemon designs out there which unfortunately will never be a part of the "real game", instead we get ugly Pokemon. It is finally time that people critcise the overall bad design of new Pokemon and finally realise that fanmade Pokemon surpassed Game Freak basically 10 years ago. Game Freak could just make a contest, so that people can turn in their Pokemon designs, so they can be used in game. Game Freak would also save money and time by doing it and it will create a strong bond between company and its fanbase. Let us be honest here, the new Pokemon look all really terrible and it is astonishing to me that people are defending this nonsense or say, it is just "taste" which clearly is not the case.

I agree 100%. Before the performance issues and bugs, i was on the fence entirely due to the designs. Both the box legendaries and the terrastalize hats looked insanely dumb (i think the terra mechanic is interesting though). Then i saw the final evos for starters and the frame rates, and am pretty glad i didnt buy it.

It really looks like they have no more new things to add but insist on adding new pkm aniway since some fan will start crying if it takes too mutch time. I'd rather wait 10 years and have interresting desings and gameplay that the current gen tbh.

Not sure if it’s true for everyone, but I’m playing on the switch lite and I’ve had next to no problems. And I’m around 30 hours in. I had a few frame rate issues in the start, but more annoyances then game breaking. Since then I’ve been having the most fun in a Pokémon game for years!

I'm not 100% sure about that myself. I've had a few people say something similar to yourself so perhaps its somewhat random. I have heard that it runs better in handheld mode but to be fair, even if we said 50% of people had the major issues, that wouldn't be acceptable. I've been a fan since the 90s as well when I got Pokemon yellow, and I kept up with the series up until Moon. At that point I sort of just threw my hands up and gave up on the series for good. At the risk of sounding like a boomer, I think the switch from sprites to 3D really hurt the series. It just feels lifeless now, there's no imagination anymore. I guess I sound like a raging luddite when I say that, but something of value definitely seems to have been lost. The series began with Tajiri's love for insect collecting as a child, and now the games have you riding motorcycle pokemon. Like how did we get to this? And Nintendo fans seem so ready to give Nintendo a free pass as you said, more so than with any other console company. Just look at the massive backlash that Sony got when they tried to shut down the Vita and PS3 stores. Sony got grilled so hard that they had to reverse their decision and basically apologize. But when Nintendo announced the upcoming closure of the 3DS store, the fan response was tepid, and many people even came forward to defend the decision. It's just bizarre, like some cult of personality. Anyway, rant over, thanks for the great video!

Oh I completely understand what you're saying. My top 3 Pokemon games from low to high are Ruby/Sapphire, Red/Blue and Gold/Silver at the top. Ever since Ruby/Sapphire I feel like its gone very slowly downwards. I absolutely hated Sword and Shield and was originally not going to buy Scarlet and Violet due to that. I picked it up because of my KZbin channel and ultimately, I like the game, I like the new concepts (not all of them), but it has problems. Problems that do 100% exist and problems that a lot of super fans are denying or hand waving away. Things like Pokemon designs or how the gyms work is subjective and opinions are weclome. However, the technical stuff IS factually there. Some people are saying its not actually there and they're either lying about it or ignoring it. Its very weird but not unexpected. The series doesn't quite feel the same these days but still, a motorcycle Pokemon is really not something I want lol. Anyway, thank you very much for watching my video and for you comment. Scarlet and Violet are seemed to be built around Legends: Arceus where there are no Abilities in L:A, and the Abilities in SV only work *inside* of battles, taking away any Pokémon getting variety SV would have gotten. When you have a Synchro Ralts from the early area as your leading Pokémon in the party, the wild Pokémon you get will not match its Nature with the Synchro Pokémon's Nature. I am starting to believe that the people are right that the Pokémon games should have stayed as 2D anime video games. They can be designed like the Nexomon games. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX looks like a Generation 6 game in HD, but looks great and maybe plays great too. The open world, a larger shopping items list, auto battles, remembering moves and changing clothes when on the go, and crafting machines are the only positives that would be great in better Pokémon games.

Exactly. I would not have bought the game if I knew how it would perform/ look. The actual gameplay changes are pretty good though and I like the direction they've taken. Its just a shame that the fun gets bogged down by all the problems constantly. I've beaten the main story but at this point, I've given up catching everything or doing any endgame stuff. I've put up with the poor technical stuff this long but I just cant anymore. Long story short, gameplay/ mechanics are pretty good, performance is awful and visuals are awful. I would still urge people not to buy it as I believe we should expect more from the biggest franchise on earth. They have the money and the resources to make this much better than it is, but they simply dont have to because people will keep buying it on its name alone. So yea, had I know beforehand, I wouldn't have bought it and my video is a suggestion based on the reasons I've outlined in this comment.

Aside from the performance issues, a lot of the game play is just uninspired and bland. The Team Star missions are just the same ol auto-battle mechanic without any of the rewards. I was hoping for more varied challenges and a fleshed out identity but we just get quick flashbacks and text bubbles. The gym challenges themselves range from okay to "why bother" and pale in comparison to the previous games' puzzles. One of the challenges is literally a brain dead simon says. Note, I am enjoying the exploration, which is the core game play mechanic to be fair, but that exploration revolves around the main objectives, which are the bland parts of the gameplay. I am not bullish on the franchise if this streamlined approach is what they are going for.

I've been enjoying the new direction and the altered gameplay loop but I have to say, it still needs a lot of work. I'm enjoying the game but the graphics, fps and bugs are annoying and I can't enjoy this game like this. I guess I will stop playing this game for the mean time and come back to it next year. If it bothers you so much then you must do the right thing and request for a refund. It will tell them that this is unacceptable, if you keep on buying the games even if they are in this buggy glitchy state then they won't take the issue seriously, you're basically contributing to the problem even more. You will just complain for the sake of complaining, don't buy if it's not up to your standard. Remember money talks, if you complain and still buy the games then that just show them that your criticism is moot to them cause at the end of the day they got your money either way. Do the right thing and go for the refund.

I like watching these bashing videos every now and then since I seem to be very very lucky. I've never experienced a glitch that I've seen, never crashed, only dropped a few pretty unnoticeable frames. It paints a picture that not everyone will get the same experience I am. From that regard, that's definitely a bad thing. You never want two players to have completely different experiences in performances based maybe on luck. (obviously diverse experiences in exploration, different tasks is great to have. I think you can see what I'm saying there). I also didn't look at any trailer, data mine, and went into this 99.9999% blind. So perhaps that played a factor too. Of the switch games (Arceus I haven't seen/played), it is my favorite one. Despite my nostalgia for the original Pearl, bdsp didn't beckon as much. Great video, despite not agreeing with some of your opinions, it's great learning other perspectives. 👍

We've had a moderate amount of glitches and crashes in our experiences and the framerate is literally all over the place for us. I'd say its rarely ever at 30 but as you said, not everyone will have the same problems (or the in the same amounts). I will say though, I genuinely wasn't trying to "bash" the game. I actually really like what they've done with it outside of the technical stuff. I know you weren't saying that to be nasty though, your comments are very respectful and I appreciate that greatly. You're right though, not everyone will have the same experience with the game. As you said, the fact that some players are having loads of issues and some have none isn't a good thing. I also knew very little going into the game but still, I do find it pretty disappointing. Thank you for watching the video and giving me a chance. As someone who is used to playing games on low graphics because my computer is about as good as a half eaten baked potato the graphics actually look good and are pretty on par to what I'm used to. And I mean low graphics on optifine minecraft if that gives any frame of reference. It's unfortunate that the games don't look the best but I think they're still enjoyable like all of the pokemon games prior. Hopefully game freak can pull a page from the legend of zelda, and have great looking open world with a good performance.

Yea, that's the thing. I'm not too bothered by older or lower end graphics either. The main issue for me, and seemingly most players, is with how it runs. I mean sure, I do think its kinda ugly in general in terms of design, textures and 3d models but still, if it ran smoothly I think it could almost be forgiven. I agree. I’ve never really minded shitty graphics and if the performance is bad to a certain degree. For me it doesn’t take away any of the enjoyment I’m having with this game. And I’m having a ton of fun, personally, playing it. I’d recommend this Pokémon game to people who enjoy open world and like Pokémon, but only if they don’t really mind bad graphics or low frames.

I would say go one step further. BOYCOTT the Pokemon games. Encourage others to boycott the game. People will buy BOTH games for $120+ dollars and defend the performance issues. Also they'll pay for the expensive DLC that are honestly not worth it. GameFreak never will improve the next installment and their staff will be mocked by other game developers yet they'll still make a lot of money.

I do think this is a very good point. I don't know if I'd personally boycott a game because the people that would suffer will be the day to day developers, coders and artists. The ones making the stupid choices that lead to the issues these games have, are the suits, executives and upper management. If the management lose thier jobs they leave with a golden parachute and will land at another company which they can ruin. I don't want to see the day to day employees lose their jobs over the choices made above their heads. I simply want the higher-ups to do better. Plus it's Pokemon, just breaking even they'll profit from the merchandise- gen 9 Plushies, bookbags, etc. Also when work conditions are terrible, deadlines are terrible, Japanese employees have the highest rate of "self-termination", then it's really time they work at other companies or Game Freak needs to step out up with their employees. If scarlet / violet sell as well / better than sword/shield, they'll just release gen 9.5 in under 9 months....then gen 10 in 2024.

I didn't think you'd even see my comment LOL I've been testing Scarlet (and doing a Let's Play of Violet) through emulation on my pc, and I've seen far less bugs from it -- possibly due to software variations. The fact that the Ryujinx developers can stabilize these games more successfully than Game Freak was allowed to shows a lot. I agree that the whole issue comes down to "We'll ship it now and fix it later."

Haha, no problem at all! I read all my comments and do my best to respond to everyone. Its actually getting more difficult to do as the channel grows but I cant complain lol. Yea, I think I saw something about 60fps patch on the emulated version of the game which improves the game SO much. The textures, resolution and lack of anti-aliasing still makes it look pretty bad (even at 60fps) but at least the fluctuating frame rate wouldnt make me want to throw up lol. Patches have become a saftey net a best and a way to exploit customers at worst, it really bothers me to be honest. I'm a big advocate of physical media as well.

I think there might be some Gamecube games that look better than this lol. I mean, Pokemon Colosseum looks decent lol. Personally, I hated Sword and Shield, they sit at the very bottom of the list for me in terms of mainline Pokemon games but If I remember right, they did at least look/run OK.

Pokemon was never meant to be a triple a console title anyways so it doesn't surprise me with all the bugs and stuffs in the game. The older games also had plenty of bugs, glitches, and performance issues as well all which nobody complain about at the time.

That's an interesting thought actually. I suppose it did start as a Gameboy/handheld title. Thinking about it, I'd say there's a case to be made that it is absolutely supposed to be a triple A, full price release at this point in time. I suppose it depends how you look at it though. In regards to the older games, I'm trying to remember back but I genuinely can't recall any bugs, glitches or poor performance. Any Good Digimon Game's i stopped playing pokemone after Gen 3 , Arceus seems like its something diffenrt

I thought Arceus was just "OK". I don't do review scores on my channel but I would understand it if someone gave Arceus a 5/10 or a 6/10. I'd call it fine. In terms of Digimon, there's a few I like. You can get Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, Digimon Story: Hacker's Memory and Digimon World: Next Order. The first 2 games I mentioned are linked. Hacker's Memory was released AFTER Cyber Sleuth and so, I played Cyber first and Hacker's second. You can actually get a double pack of the 2 games together on Nintendo Switch or you can get them separately on PS4/PS5 and PC. The games are turn based JRPG's which kinda remind me of the Persona games at times. Digimon World: Next Order is a bit different, its still a JRPG but you have less control in the battles. Its more about raising the Digimon and training them. Its the latest game in the series that started with Digimon World for PS1. Its kinda like having a couple of Digimon Tamagotchi's and I really like the game personally. I used to love the old Digimon virtual pets back in the day, they were SO cool. I think they're releasing new colour screen versions of them soon but they're gunna be expensive. Anyway, I hope that helps! Thanks for watching!😊👍🏻

Technically yes, but also kinda no. The cover Pokemon for each game does all of those things, except flying is more like gliding. That Pokemon can actually climb up mountains as well later in the game. Getting around is actually pretty easy to honest.

1. The game does look good 2. The frame rate problem is not that bad The game looks beautiful it does have some questionable textures but it’s not that important as graphics were never Pokémon main goal. I have played through the entire game I have maybe lagged once and the only thing that is maybe “laggy” to me is the background npcs. I do think the shadow glitch is annoying but it barely affects gameplay and I haven’t glitches or bugged once (not counting the shadow one). I agree that some design choices are bad (starter evolutions) but at this rate we can’t change anything and we’ve had bad designs since gen 1. I do think devs had the time to finish the game and to me it feels like a finished game I recommend you buy it cause it’s the most fun I’ve had in a long while with a Pokémon game. Nobody cares about the national dex anymore it’s been gone since SwSh and it’s not that big of a problem. Most people are hating on the game and I truly don’t understand why cause this game is probably the closest I felt to having a true Pokémon journey.

If that's how you feel about the game then cool, I'm not here to argue with anyone. The video is just a suggestion and I even said that people should buy the game if they want to. The first 2 points you made at the start of your comment are subjective opinions and again, if that's how you see things, then great! I'm genuinely glad you're having fun with the game. In MY opinion though, the game is exceedly ugly to look at and is a technical nightmare. That's just how I see it. That said, the technical failures are actually fact and if you want to see exactly what the problems are, please check out Digital Foundry's video on it. Those issues ARE there but if they don't bother you then then it wont be an issue for you. Lots of people dont see them or notice them as much as others so that's very possible. The movement of the camera, the framce pacing and the constant fluctuation of the frame rate made me literally have to look away from the screen more times than I could even count. It was genuinely making me feel ill and a lot of other people have said the same from what I understand. Not everyone will have that though, the vast minority in-fact. At the end of the day, I personally expect better for my money based on the experience I've had with it. If you're happy with what you received for your money then its all good. It really doesn't matter what I think anyway lol It'll sell huge amounts of copies regardless (and has!). Happy to listen to your opinions on the game though and thank you for posting them without resorting to insults or nasty comments.👍🏻😊

They are now on the switch and they can change. As far as I know, not yet. Bugs and glitches seem to be random from person to person. I only had a few of them and some crashes here and there, but my main issue is the performance. There's just so many times when the game slows down to crawl, feels unpleasant to play and looks really bad. It chugs along pretty badly and I actually had to look away from the screen multiple times because the frame fluctuation and frame pasing was making me feel a bit ill. After making this video, I noticed that Digital Foundry put out a video on the games shortcommings. Its really interesting and I would 100% suggest checking it out if you have the time. It explains things so much better than I could.

These games will always be visually simplistic. The franchise’s aesthetics are all about making sure that small children/new players don’t get overwhelmed and quit. This isn’t Monster Hunter and it never will be. They want Pokémon to be instantly familiar to old players and non-threatening to new ones. For the simple watercolor aesthetic Pokemon is known for, the Switch hardware is just fine. Breath of the Wild, Xenoblade, and countless miracle ports like Nier, the Witcher, and Doom exist. Nintendo clearly wanted Scarlet and Violet out by Thanksgiving. This is their big holiday release.

Everything you've said is absolutely true. I have no issue with visually simplistic games but there's a difference between that and what Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is. I always listen and try to understand other peoples opinions, its literally what this channel is all about, but I genuinely struggle to believe that anyone thinks this game looks good. You could say that the graphics are subjective but the poor technical performance and stability issues are facts. I also made the point that the Switch hardware is fine, its not great, but its fine enough. Breath of the Wild looks great, Xenoblade looks great and the ports you mentioned generally look great too. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet however, do not look good at all, as far as I'm concerned. I think you're probably right about Thanksgiving but perhaps they should have waited until Thanksgiving 2023 instead and it might not have been in such a state. The issue is that they dont NEED to do that because people will buy it regardless. Considering how other games look and run on the Switch, I expect more for my money and more from the biggest franchise on the planet. That's my gripe with it but honestly, my video is only a suggestion based on my experience. I dont need anyone to listen to me or to agree with me as its ultimately up to them what they spend their money on. We may disagree but that's fine, thank you for watching anyway👍🏻

The thing is those alternatives doesn't stick around, you play them one time and that's it. Also they get abandon easily. Where are games like Invizimals, Dragon Quest Monsters, and Jade Cocoon? Yes they are better than Pokemon but where are they now? They are just one time hype and that's it. Pokemon kept coming and evolving generation after generation.

Yea, I dont like it but this is basically true. I love games like Monster Crown, Monster Sanctuary, TemTem, Nexomon and Coromon but they are usually one and done. Nexomon has 2 games but that's because the original was adapted from an older mobile game. The 2nd game is much more of proper release though. Pokemon stays around and I just cant ever see it stopping at this point. Its simply too big to fail now and that's unfortunately, part of the problem.

Thanks J D, appreciate the kind words as usual my friend. Yea, we need something new console wise, something that can play these games in a better way. I'd be happy if they kept the Switch as is and then made a purely home console that sits under your TV and plays the same cartridges. It could be bundled with a Pro Controller or something. There should be graphical options that are locked off when played on the Switch handheld and then unlocked when you play the game in the home console. Yep, exactly! I mean, even if the games didn't look much better in terms of in-game assets, I'd still be happy. Just a bump in resolution, framerate and things like anti-aliasing and lighting. What I have in mind is when you play older games from say, the Dreamcast, on an emulator. The in-game stuff, like character models and textures are still low res/ low quality but everything is super clear, sharp and runs at a smooth 60fps. Imagine a box under your TV that could play this game BUT, with those extra buffs, that's my hope.

I completely agree. EASILY one of the best Pokemon games in many years. For me, Sword and Shield were the worst mainline games ever made. Scarlet and Violet are great fun but my god, its literally difficult to look at. Definitely a shame but hey, thanks a lot for watching my video!😊

@stubboyo I've been playing 95% docked and my Mrs has been playing 95% handheld. We've had near enough the same experience. I'm not saying you're wrong or doubting you, I actually believe that many people are having wildly different experiences due to the awful optimization. So some people may be having a better time in handheld mode but for us, that wasn't the case. To be fair, its bad regardless.
