Do not camp in these dangerous woods!
These hidden Beaches of West Yorkshire are at Withens Clough Reservoir near Hebden Bridge.
The woodland I was in was full of dangerous dead trees and widow makers making it very dangerous to camp in. I would not recommend camping in these woods.
Gaddings dam (the highest beach in England) is not far from this location too!
Wild camping in the Vango Starav 200 plus I get some awesome drone footage of Withens Clough Reservoir in Hebden Bridge which surprisingly has a few hidden beaches!
Vango are a company based in Scotland that make outdoor camping gear and tents.
In this video I'm testing out the Starav 200 tent.

Fascinating.The founder of Vango,Guy McRopes was driving his van along the A9 and ran out of petrol.A passing motorist stopped and offered Guy his emergency fuel can and said " There you go pal,this'll make ya van go just now ". Initially he called the company Vangojustnow but it was a bit long winded so he shortened it to Vango.A company was born with good intent. Condensation is a tricky one but what i do is wear a snorkel which i connect to a flexible hose which allows moisture from respiration to harmlessly discharge to atmosphere ( outside the tent ).It needs a one way valve to prevent frogs and other unwanted critters from entering - they're very curious - and potentially blocking off your ventilation duct.I have developed a travel adapter for foreign climes to prevent the ingress of lizards and geckos etc but i don't think they're an issue in Hebden Bridge ? If you would like one i'll throw in the travel adapter for good measure. Next time you're in the locale ( by the reervoir ) you could treat yourself to watching Reservoir Dogs - the screenplay is by Quentin Tarantino and you'd both love it but apologies are in order as i couldn't find out who the make up artist was ?

Celestia's teeth, has it really been three months since I last ran through all these vids? I started my last writing project then, and I've gotten half nowhere since. Uhf. My lack of hours in the day aside, I wanted to say that this channel's been a help to me. With the constant and exponential deterioration of the world, these vids have been cool anodyne for my burnt and troubled mind. Your random camping adventures may not be the panacea I need for the world's problems, they at least help settle my mind. And that's not a small thing. Thank you, Gaz.

I've lived in Calderdale for 20 years now, but I don't know some of these places that you visit, I probably need to get out more and explore. I'm originally from near Haworth and one place where I used to go wild camping in the summer is a spot called Alcomden Stones, up above Top Withens. It's pretty remote but it's a beautiful spot and I reckon you'd like it. It's probably about 5/6 miles from Haworth, there's footpaths until you reach Top Withens, then it's through the heather off-road to get to the stones. Stanbury is closer and knocks a good 2 miles off the walk in. but I reckon you'd be better off leaving your car in Haworth (public car park behind the church is a safe bet). Lots of tourists have their cars broken into when they leave them at remote spots in Stanbury whilst they're walking on the moors, so thought I'd better warn you first if you do fancy it. You could always leave your car in a safe spot in Haworth and get a bus to Stanbury.

@@GrizzlyGaz I'd just be a bit careful around mid August if you're planning a trip. There's grouse shooting up there and other folk have told me that the gamekeepers can be arseholes. But I've been up there dozens of times when I was younger and never had any issues. I used to bivvy on the top of the flat stones. If you go nearly as far as the Top Withens derelict house and take a right off the footpath and up the hill, when you get to the top you can see the stones. You can also plan a route up through Ponden Kirk, which is really picturesque and reach the stones that way. You miss Brontë waterfall, (used to be a waterfall when I was a kid, not so much now even in winter) and the Withens if you go the Ponden route. Probably make a better video going the Ponden route though, more to see.

Here in the USA we have Mountain Lions (aka - cougars) and where I live we have 1 family of cat per 2 mile radius. Bit of a over population problem right now actually. But I bring it up because a cougar has incredible vocal chords and can make/vocalize over 114 different sounds, often mocking various prey to draw in a male or smaller creature. The foxes making all their noises reminded me of that.

The hills are exposed and when a storm blows through the winds will be 100mph steady with sudden gusts taking it up to 160 or more, tornados as well, the green new wood, thinner trees are bendy, the older ones less so so they snap when bent enough, thicker trees will blow right over with a big root ball

Jeff - EXACTLY!! That’s the most obvious example of a Bigfoot copse of trees as I have EVER seen. Granted the human touches (the heart and the fire pit) take a bit away from the rawness of it…….but come on…..how can anyone deny the existence of SOMETHING not of our species, seeing that little nest.
@staceytroffer8287
@staceytroffer8287 Жыл бұрын
@@wullaballoo2642 HOWEVER….they do not fall over in “patches” conveniently creating a visual nest. I live on the coast of Oregon where we have hurricane gusts and it flattens the trees in great flat swaths. The wind does not pick a 15x20ft spot and snap trees only there withstanding trees all around it.

I'm loving your videos, Gaz - just recently discovered them - makes me want to go camping again! i live in NZ now but have a friend from Yorkshire, who I used to visit, so the landscapes, the wildlife sounds etc are reassuringly familiar! Beautiful part of the world! I would say the lack of breeze and Fendy's bottom are what contributed to the excessive condensation you experienced that night - tho I'm sure you've worked that out by now, lol

Nice. Re the condensation: all tents get it if conditions are right for it, just some deal with it better than others (high fly for ventilation and a mesh inner mainly). You had perfect conditions for it though, by the looks of it: no wind, high water content in the ground looking at tall the reeds you were near, fairly warm day followed by a cold night, and in a valley so the cold air settled overnight. Perfect storm for it to happen, tbh.
@GrizzlyGaz
@GrizzlyGaz 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I think the fact that I had the fly open at both ends probably contributed to it. With the high water content in the air it just all came inside the tent and settled on the solid inner.

One thing I've learned is never ignore when you're hackles go up. That's your body naturally reacting to something that were told as children that doesn't exist. The things I've seen and heard for 23 years of my life was pretty scary
@chrismeyers5963
@chrismeyers5963 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's an inherent trait that we as humans have had since the Hunter/ Gather days, it's a natural trait that is instinct to tell us when something isn't right or to be very cautious, like going into a dark cave or when you hear a sound that you've never heard before, it's sad that we as a species have really learned to not pay attention to this trait due to technology and being lazy
